I summon this thread FROM THE DEAD!!

Alright, so DMI 2.0. Is anyone interested? I was thinking of taking the Schenectady branch, since the city is 10 minutes from my house Razz Possibly even being a Regional Manager.
Is anyone going to play again?

I got in at the tail end of the first go around. I have already signed up for 2.0 under the Elizabeth, NJ branch with konamouse as RM. I'm latent_moths on that site by the way. I need to see about my changing my name here as well...

See you guys at the office...should be fun.

oooh, so that's you? awesome.

Yes, DMI 2.0 is up and running (some time around 6a this morning after we sat around all last night waiting and waiting and waiting for OLC and DMIHR to open the doors).

Yes, because Jamesi left us, I was promoted to Regional Manager of Elizabeth, NJ in DMI 1.0. Through the amazing feedback from my remaining active employees, and the to the pleasure of OLC (Old Lady Corporate), Elizabeth NJ was spared from the big purge (we got trimmed back down to 100 branches) and I was retained as RM (only 27 of us were rehired in this position).

They promised fun tasks, more group activities, and I get to award the Employee of the Week (with prizes) instead of it being just the person with the biggest $bs increase. Oh, and the RM has moderating ability in the branch forums.

So, if you love (or even just like) "The Office", please consider a virtual position at DMI in the Elizabeth, NJ Branch (we're Super Silly and Super Sexy - in a geeky way).

Elizabeth, NJ Logo

No, we don't sell paper. We socialize, do weekly tasks (online creativity) and try to create the best products. We all vote for the best and the winner garners extra $chrutebucks for the branch (and sometimes real world prizes).

http://www.dundermifflininfinity.com/ is where you start.
When you register, you can then select the branch you want to join.
If you don't know what branch (and if you don't want Elizabeth, NJ), then you can read the branch recruitment threads.

Here's a video promoting DMI.

Are you Deejo?

Start earning your $chrutebucks now. The week has already started (and ends Wed at 9p Eastern) for those weekly Affinity $bs. Every $5 counts towards our branch total and average per employee.

There is also a bug that gets your total over the cap of $100.

If you post/change your office favorites, etc to $95, you can load a picture for $10 and take yourself to $105; or you can load a video for $15 to get to $110. But wait until the total is at $95. Cause you can only load 1 video and 1 picture per week!

I think uploading (or changing) your profile avatar also gets you $5. And adding favorite coworkers will give you $5 each. But posting in the forums is the most fun because you get to meet your fellow coworkers, plan for group tasks, play the game threads, joke around, oh - meet our new donkey (we think he waundered over from Satin Dolls - the strip club that shares our parking lot).

DMI Presented at a Game Developers Conference
- we are lab rats!

The 2nd Worlds in Motion Summit at the Austin Game Developers Conference will have a panel that will use DMI as the focus of a panel.

Quote:
In an exciting development, Stephen Andrade, Senior Vice President, Digital Development and General Manager, NBC.com will be joined by Rajat Paharia, Founder and CEO of Bunchball in a first-of-its-kind presentation, titled "Dunder Mifflin Infinity: A Case Study in Using Game Mechanics to Drive Community Behavior." Participants will hear how Bunchball's Nitro meta-gaming platform is being used to drive user behavior and increase engagement on Dunder Mifflin Infinity, a social networking and user-generated content site for fans of NBC's hit TV show, The Office.

One of the most notorious players in DMI 1.0, Dundermifflininfinity (who was the first to reach $10,000 Schrutebucks by manipulating the system and transfering to various branches in order to win all possible Branch tasks), attended the conference and here is his report of the presentation:

Quote:
Okay so I went to the Game Developers Conference at the Austin Convention Center today at 9:30 Texas time. I asked off work and since I work as an Interactive Marketing Assistant, my boss was like, "Cool, have fun." So that ruled. Also, A couple of posts up, I wrote about the comped passes. Stuff couldn't have gone any better.

The presentation was done by Rajat Paharia, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bunchball (Bunchball makes DMI) and Stephen Andrade, Senior Vice-President and Digital Development General Manager, NBC.com. As an aside, Andrade talked about a lot of NBC.com and how it was going with 360 Experiences, Alternate Reality Games, and these social sites like Heroes Evolutions, stuff on Biggest Loser and Chuck, as well as Leno's Your Garage. He alluded to Heroes numerous times, which was a bonus for me as many of ya'll know, I am a Heroes geek. I walked in early and made eye contact with Andrade. He did a double take and I know that it registered. I took a seat close to the front (the place was not sold out). Andrade and Paharia took turns talking. Andrade mostly led.

There was a PowerPoint presentation with some videos. The videos were the DMI video that is on the front page and NBC.com (which cut out and didn't finish due to technical problems which were later resolved and the video was played again at the end), and a clip from "Dinner Party" where Jan plays "That One Night", dances with Jim, and Andy does that little sing-song thing. It got the laugh that it should. The reason they showed this clip was so that they could talk about user-submitted content. They showed two user-created videos. One was by jonathanbeveridge, the winning TON video, and one that Corporate, including Andrade, really liked, by modfrancie2000. Both of those had their names listed on the title card before the video. The profile that they used to show off buying items, ARM status, the desk, etc., was kenoz's Devil Toby. There were prob 4-5 screens of that. The shot of the front page they used was a recent one from 1.0 talking about the Charity Fundraiser at the top.

Andrade, after discussing the elements of NBC.com, went more in depth with DMI. Both he and Paharia were incredibly accurate and honest with what they were saying. I was surprised by how much Andrade knew. He discussed the reward system and the desk, etc. The number he said was I believe, 160,000 players in 1.0. They talked about site traffic.

Paharia talked about what this kind of site is made to do. He spoke more on this type of "gaming" in general, and told that DMI is meant to satisfy peoples' want to earn rewards, complete tasks, and rise in rank. He showed off the leaderboards and told about each one saying that out of one of the four, someone could find something to rise up in/on.

Andrade talked about some of the negatives in 1.0 such as too many branches, regional managers not hiring people, actual technical problems, etc. I was surprised that they actually discussed a DMI 1.0 versus 2.0 with those titles. He talked about the real woman who is DMIHumanResources and told about her love of The Office and commitment to the site. He said that when things go wrong on the site, the users ALWAYS make sure to let them know. He spoke very highly of DMIHR, though (the human behind the name, not DMIHR in-game).

Andrade talked about the desks, and how the new ones will be bigger, and you will be able to sell items back for a small fee. (Now, if you consider that if you bought a bunch of items for yourself instead of for other people at the end of 1.0, you would be able to get some of your 1.0 spendable SBs back and use them on new items).

They both discussed some technical aspects as a lot of the people at the AGDC were game developers (duh) like traffic spikes after episodes air and what types of computer stuff they use when and how.

After the presentation, I went up and introduced myself. Andrade said that DMIHR (the human) called him this morning and told him that I might be there. I talked to the two of them about DMI and Heroes. He asked if I would be participating in the new content in the Fall, to which I responded, "Of course. I'm too far into this."

Bunchball does not make DMI. Bunchball powers the virtual desks.

Just a reminder for our Elizabeth NJ employees

Even though the first DMI Task won't start until after the season premiere on Thur Sept 25, we can still earn weekly Affinity Schrutebucks ($bs).
This $100 per week is very important since it all counts towards the branch totals.

We're a small branch, and never expect to compete with the big powerhouses (like Long Beach and Rochester and Allentown). Our niche is the social networking, friendship, silliness, fun, and my goal in DMI 2.0 is for us to finish in the top ten for AVERAGE $bs per employee.

So everyone is important. And every $bs counts. Please check-in at least once a week to rack up those Affinity $bs.

Quote:
What are SchruteBucks?

SchruteBucks are the official currency of DMI.

Employees will be paid SchruteBucks by doing simple tasks like uploading a photo or video, changing your favorites, rating an item, posting on a discussion board or adding a comment. They may also be deducted SchruteBucks for getting flagged or getting fired. These small SchruteBuck amounts are capped at Sb $100 per week.

The real SchruteBuck gains will come in the weekly tasks, however. By participating in weekly tasks, and winning the votes of your peers and Corporate, you will accrue substantial SchruteBucks, which will allow you to climb the corporate ladder.

What can I do with SchruteBucks?
You can buy items for your Desk, or buy items to send to your co-workers as gifts.

As your SchruteBucks balance increases, so do your opportunities for promotion.

To earn Affinity $bs - you get $5 every time make coworkers your favorites (check your profile page when you login and click on "view pending request" to accept new friends, look at the profiles of your coworkers and click on "Add this employee" to invite to be a friend), and post in the forums. Make $10 once a week for uploading a picture to your profile page, make $15 once a week for uploading a video. If you don't want to bother reading/posting in the forums, there is a little bit of a cheat: just "save" your office favorites 20 times and you'll get $5 every click. But we'd much rather you visit with us in the Elizabeth branch forum (after you login, click on MyBranch in the dark grey bar, then click on Forum in the light grey bar).

Current Elizabeth stats:
Quote:
Number of Employees: 85 (53rd)
Total Sb Earned: Sb $89,045 (54th)
Average Sb/Employee: Sb $1,048 (12nd)

FANS OF 'THE OFFICE' HOST PREMIERE PARTIES ON SEPTEMBER 25TH

Quote:

Dunder Mifflin Infinity Social Network Used To Organize Events

BURBANK, Calif. – September 23, 2008 – NBC.com today announced that fans of "The Office" will be hosting premiere parties in 26 cities across the nation. The parties originated and were organized through Dunder Mifflin Infinity (www.dundermifflininfinity.com), the social network site for "The Office" fans on NBC.com. The announcement was made by Vivi Zigler, President, NBC Universal Digital Entertainment.

"It's wonderful to see the fans of 'The Office' use NBC.com's social networking capabilities in fun and unique ways," said Zigler. "This is really just the beginning of what can happen when fans, technology and creativity come together like they have with 'The Office' and Dunder Mifflin Infinity."

The idea of hosting premiere viewing parties came from a Dunder Mifflin Infinity fan in Philadelphia, PA who wanted to organize a local party in conjunction with the local NBC affiliate. The idea quickly grew into events nation-wide when NBC.com informed other Dunder Mifflin Infinity fans about the party and encouraged others to host parties in their own cities as well. To help the organizers, NBC.com is supplying party packs to the first 50 established parties. Once all of the participating "branches" have been identified, NBC.com will work with the local affiliates in those areas. Party participants can post pictures and video from their parties on NBC.com.

"The Office" premieres on NBC at 9:00pm (ET/PT) on September 25th.

The participating party cities to date are:

Rochester, NY
Philadelphia, PA
Cheshire, CT
Washington, D.C./Baltimore/VA
Washington, D.C.
Gainesville, FL
Jacksonville, FL
Orlando, FL
Sanford, FL
Tallahassee, FL
Charlotte, NC
Chicago, IL
Plainfeld, IL
Germantown, OH
Elk River, MN
Indianola, IA
Ames, IA
La Crosse, WI
Fort Collins, CO
Las Vegas, NV
La Crescenta, CA
Santa Barbara, CA
Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Show Low, AZ
Oceanside, CA

NBC.com, the Emmy Award-winning broadcast network website, is a leading online and mobile destination for television and interactive entertainment. With both derivative and web-exclusive programming, NBC.com pioneered the "360″ experience with "Heroes 360," which gave viewers a way to extend their entertainment experience beyond the broadcast, and the first weekly social networking experience attached to a primetime entertainment program with "Dunder Mifflin Infinity." The site offers full episode streaming of many NBC Entertainment shows as well as short clips, interactive games and social networking, including user-generated content. NBC.com continually develops new ways for consumers to experience entertainment content on both existing and emerging platforms. The site is the recipient of multiple Emmy and Webby awards for its content and applications. Please log on to www.nbc.com to learn more.

I will be at the LAS VEGAS viewing party along with the Regional Manager of Modesto CA, "kimberlyrox", and the top DMI Employee of 1.0, "kenoz"

Task 2.1 - ASCII Art

Quote:
Task 2.1 - ASCII Art

Description
Artistic expression is a skill in demand among mid-level paper companies hoping to distinguish themselves from their competition. Our research indicates that a growing number of office managers and employees responsible for buying paper and office supplies are young, college-educated consumers. In order to appeal to their modern sensibilities, we here at corporate believe that a unique approach must be taken. Rather than just the traditional "call and pitch," we believe a contemporary form of artistic expression is necessary to connect to these buyers. To demonstrate your abilities, corporate is asking that you use ASCII (emoticon) art to create an image of one of the following: a landmark in your branch's city, a portrait of one of the Scranton branch's employees (other than Dwight Schrute), or your branch's logo.

Instructions
Choose the image or photo you want to render in ASCII.
Search for an ASCII Art program to create your image. We recommend ASCII Art Maker (Windows), asciiconvert (Web-based) or ASCIIsee (Mac - NOTE: Download and use is free despite Commercial License indication).
Make sure your art is outputted as JPG, GIF or PNG. NOTE: If you are using an online tool to create your ASCII art, you may have to take a screengrab of your image.
Once your ASCII image file is created, upload it using the form below.

Voting
After you submit your entry, the members of your branch will vote on their favorite. When the branch has chosen their favorite entry, it will be entered into a company-wide vote for the best ASCII art design of all. Good luck!

Rewards
All rewards are payable in SchruteBucks, the official currency of Dunder Mifflin Infinity.

For submitting an ASCII art image: Sb $50
If your ASCII art is chosen as Top 5 in the branch: Sb $75
If your ASCII art is chosen as the Branch Winner: Sb $200
If your ASCII art is chosen as the Company Winner: Sb $300

Prizes
The Company Winner will receive an official print of Pam's ASCII Art of Dwight, signed by Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson.

DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting your ASCII art is Thursday, Oct. 2nd at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET.

Acceptable file type: JPG, GIF or PNG and should not be larger than 5 MB.

I don't know if this should go here, but since it's a thread related to the office, it's better here than on another thread... I saw it on the Comedy Central Insider blog, Jen has a site for her candles:
