Hey, if peeps are gonna slag on Chicago in any way, shape or form, you're gonna have to deal with me.

Shocked

We've got public transportation out the wazoo:

http://www.transitchicago.com

We've got tons and tons of theaters here, many offering super-cheap ticket prices because we're not a strictly-Union town. Late-night theatre, Broadway tours, etc. More music venues than you can shake a drumstick at. (Oh gosh, off the top of my head - Metro, Abbey Pub, Gunther Murphy's, Schuba's, Riviera, The Vic, Park West, Elbo Room, Beat Kitchen, the Chicago, Tweeter Center, Double Door ...)

Landmarks. Oy. Buckingham Fountain/Grant Park, the new Millenieniuniumium Park, the Art Institute, Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Children's Museum, an art gallery district, Chinatown, Greektown, the Devon Indian food corridor, Hancock Building, Sears Tower ...

Look, let's just say, there's lots to do here, and it's a gorgeous city. Unlike NYC, which is of course one of the best cities, there is a bit more room to breathe, here. The streets are a little less crowded and hectic, even though it's quite busy. Twisted Evil

That said, I am not sure I want to stump too much for Chicago, seeing as how I am not sure I want to shoulder organizational responsibility - I helped to organize a small con in 2001, and while it might not qualify me as an "expert" organizer, I do know that this kind of stuff takes a good bit of hard work. My plate seems over-full these days. If other people in the area wanted to take up the reins for promoting Chi-town, I can lend a hand, though!

( I know, I know, Varin already covered a lot of this. Cos she's cool like that! )

Varin - I think the midwest is being neglected here as well! I've been gaming a while, and never met anybody in real life! If somebody else wants to cover city activities, I've lived in the suburbs all my life, and know it pretty damn well.

The Naperville Rib fest is a perennial favorite of mine, as well as the Kane County Fair. The Chicago premium outlets just opened, and there's no less than 4 indoor sports arenas by me, ranging from hockey to skating, and more (I'm just not a jock lol). Just because we're not NY doesn't mean there's any less to fo here, it's just a little more spread out. I'm not even covering downtown here, as I only visit occasionally. There's Navy pier (aweseome!), the mag mile and a ton more.

I guess I just don't understand why we haven't had a meet here already...I mean I know there's a lot of you out on the east and west coasts, but there's a ton of us here, and we're all really nice!

To all midwesterners - If you're interested in a mini-fest message me, I'd love to see how much interest there is here!

It's been years since I've checked it out, but it's at MSI, wraith!

There's also a faboo pendulum in one of the four main stairwells, and a hatchery with cute little baby chicks, and and and

I think rose is trolling for casting couch fodder. Wait...is that why you made me come to your show topless?

I arbitrarily vetoed Chicago due to my own personal whim. Nothing against the city or the mid-west. But New York does have the Intrepid museum.

At any rate I will restart the poll and add Chicago as well as Winnipeg, my personal choice for a January ARGfest. But I do think at least a couple of local people need to be willing (cough bagsbee and joebrent cough) to organize the ARGfest-- not that the non-locals here won't all pitch in to help.

No one's slagging anything. I actually happen to sorta kinda like Chicago, my favoritest ballpark is there (Wrigley Field).

OK in the interests of peace and harmony, I'll propose the following:
  • ARGFest IV - New York (April/May 2005)
  • ARGFest V - Chicago (Fall 2005)
  • ARGFest VI - Europe (London? Amsterdam?) (Spring 2006)
  • ARGFest VII - Winnipeg (Winter 2006/7)

Are you suicidal? Coming to winnipeg in winter would be akin to visiting the equator in the summer, except not quite as hot.

Chicago actually sounds feasible from my end, as it's not terribly far away, and could possibly be reached by automobile.

We gracefully accept your nomination! The first meeting of the National ARGfest Comittee has already been scheduled, and by the looks of the provisional scenarios, we can start building the infrastructural facilities as early as this winter!

I don't have to tell you about all the wonderful things Amsterdam has to offer, so let me just reassure the slightly worried theme-park fans, we have the bestest theme-park in the world ready at hand! (and even a Six Flags to satisfy the rollercoaster fanb0ys and g1rls Razz)

Forgot to add:
  • ARGFest VIII - Central African Republic (Summer 2007)

What's with the freaky Head-on-a-Pole? Looks like Disneyland on LSD. I am so there.

The Table, the Donkey, and the Pole
(Fairy Land)
After seven years, the carpenter says to the eldest son, "You have worked extremely well, my boy. So now I am giving you the best gift in the world to take home with you."And he gives the boy a perfectly ordinary grey donkey. The boy thinks, "What am I supposed to do with that?" But he doesn't want to be rude, and says nothing. "Wait," says the carpenter, and calls out, "Donkey, lift your tail!" And lo, at least a hundred golden ducats roll out from under the donkey's tail. "Well, master, thank you!" the boy says, and sets off home singing...

Woah. I have to check this joint out. Donkeys that poop golden ducats!? Laaf people, making Laaf Lurk beer and munching Larie cakes and Liflafs!? A Bobsleigh Run!? Shalom Disney, shalom Efteling!

And not to raise our standards too high, those Rose has nominated to "organize" should understand that this merely means (based on past experience):

identify a couple cool bars/locations to have official meets at;

help identify reasonably-priced hostelries (although half of the attendees will find their own anyway);

be aware of local goings-on for last minute recommendations to ARGFesters who planned nothing except the getting there part (maybe help nudge everybody into making them group activities but if you PLAN it that way it probably won't work -- like herding cats, you know);

facilitate PM surprises for attendees (if there are any PMs who want to keep up that lovely "tradition"); and

if you wanna throw out a couple host-city-specific puzzles nobody would complain.

I personally would enjoy Winnipeg in Winter. I can't understand why jamesi doesn't want us to come visit him.
