[META] Why coordinate efforts for the Axon puzzle

edit: Split from the sticky -- fb

Thanks for the sticky, ScarpeGrosse!

I do have one more thing to add, however, about those who want their locations to remain anonymous:

If you do not wish for me to put your name on a location, but WILL still be scouting that location, please let me know via PM, and I guarantee that I will keep your secret. I've already received a request for this, and have accomadated, so you can be assured that I have no reason to reveal your location or to betray your trust.

However, if you do not trust me (understood this day and age) perhaps you would trust one of the Moderators... if you would PM one of them, and if they would be so kind to forward the message that "x" location is covered, I don't have to know the name! I just want to make sure that all these locations are covered. That is my only concern.

I appreciate your concerns for being cautious with your screename/location situation, and I just wanted to add that I will be able to work with you there... Thanks! Let's keep knocking out these coordinates! We've got 75 as of the time this is written, so we have just under two-thirds left to go. (that's still a lot!)

We need YOUR help!

why do you have to have a comprehensive list of everyone going to each location, even people who want to remain anonymous????

if i want to remain anonymous, i'll just go to a loc. near me and not tell anybody...

*belch*

this request just seems uber strange to me

New to this whole thing.. so please be gentle. I have been following this since about July 27th, you guys sure do keep it entertaining. What a story. I am happy to go to the Austin, Texas location if you need me. It isn't that far from work. I will add some info to the WIKI that I found in one of the Halo books that might help with overall story elements.

thanks!

Really, it's just to see if we can cover all 210 locations. For example, if there's 3 locations in one city, and people want to coordinate to make sure all three are covered, instead of everybody going to one and leaving the other two vacant.

And if people want to go, but remain anonymous here, that's fine....somebody might not want to give away their general location. So, for example, if 'anonymous' is going to Kingman, AZ; somebody else who might otherwise drive 100 miles to get there just to make sure it's covered might decide not to.

Make sense?

if these forums were the entirety of the population involved in this arg, then yes it would make sense.

these forums however are just one small slice of the community currently engaged in solving the puzzle(s)

w/e i guess
if someone wants to spend the time compiling that list, then knock yerself out.

just seems like energy that could be spent on actually thinking about the solve.

You mean, similar to the energy that could be spent on actually thinking about the solve rather than posting on the forums about how someone's spec/idea/effort is a waste of time?

Huh.

ilovecheese, I humbly request that you take your flamewar somewhere other than this sticky. I am trying to keep it clean and neat so people can get actual information. If you disagree, that's fine. Start a topic and let people discuss it. But this is not that place. Thank you, and have a great day.

(1) Thanks for splitting this off from the sticky

(2) Making a master list like this, (even with Anonymous locators,) is beneficial to those who don't wish to go, but would be willing for the sake of the group!

(3) ilovecheese, THIS is the place to discuss why we should or should not do this list. I'll be more than happy to defend my position here.

If this community wants to have a record of whatever will occur at each location and appointed time, I can't really see any other way of making sure that every point is covered than Dorkmaster's method. You're probably quite right that people from outside this community will also show up. However, that doesn't help us unless they then contribute their experience here.

This exercise is not about making sure someone shows up at every point, it's about making sure one of us shows up at every point and reports back. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

[META]Sherpa... Girl, you rock... how long did that take you, seriously...[/META]

(if you're a guy I apologize, it was the avatar that made me assume...)

Edit: SpaceBass, are you going to be in town for any of these locations? (Do I remember you saying you'd be out of the country, or am I making that up... my brain does that sometimes Wink )

Dorkmaster, 'grats. Indeed, I am a girl, though I tend not to flaunt it Smile (Besides, there are several people with female avatars who aren't!)

It's not original, though; something I saw (and invoked!) during my USENET days.

Yea, you're making that up. Wink I'll be in town, but all of the times are during my working hours. I am going to try to get off early to make the 3:31pm at Lloyd Center and (hopefully) the 5:23pm at SE Oak & 82nd (though this one will be severely dependent on traffic), however.
