Re: [SPEC] Black Swan

LOL, Just about everything that happens on Lost qualifies as a Black Swan event. I think it's one of the reasons the show's such a hit.

Quote:
And in response he argues that it is because we are hard-wired to find order in randomness, to turn scattered points into a coherent narrative, and to expect identified patterns to last forever.

Describes the reaction of every Lost viewer I know! It's also what we were doing when we trying to find a reasoning for why we were being grouped the way we were in this game.

Funny fact - Black swans abound on Australia's flags too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Swan_emblems_and_popular_culture

Interestingly enough, this is the second ARG I played this year in which the Black Swan theory came up. I guess that's another Black Swan itself?

So, any speculation on why our inside man has taken this as his moniker? Will BS cause the high impact, cataclysmic event that will bring down Dharma for the second time?

Quote:
Taleb's Black Swan has a central and unique attribute: the high impact. His claim is that almost all consequential events in history come from the unexpected

Honestly my first thought with the name Black Swan wasn't so deep. I just thought he/she/it took the name as a statement against Dharma. Black often seen as the color of negativity, I saw it as the "Anti-Swan" to Dharma's Swan Station. *shrugs*

I asked this once, and i'll ask it again: Are there any Black Swans in Greek myth?

Good question. Good answers.

Black swans wouldn't show up in Greek Mythology, unless in a dream form, the real black swans are native to Australia.

Black Swan, on the ABC-LOST forums

I believe part of the ARG is going on on the ABC-Lost forums wich you reach when you click forum on the DWY page.

There's talk about a forum member there beeing part of the ARG, it is "Ludicfallacy8" on those pages. There's talkj of her beeing the black swan, and proof of it. Don't know why yet, still have to read through all of the concernig posts there.

It makes sence, recruits beeing IG and all. And could explain why we might mis some parts. (Because I thing we do)

Are there people here who take part in the discussion there?

You know, there are a lot of things about this show I can sort of predict or speculate on.....but the smoke, man, I just can't wrap my brain around how they are gonna plausibly explain that.

Nano bot space time cloud? Simitaimed Elemental from the four toed civilization?

Or then again they wont explain it and leave it a mystery.

The writers ruled out the monster being nano-bot technology in a podcast a while back, so its not that. Could be electromagnetic energy in its purist form?

Yeah, or maybe it's an hallucination because they are all eating 'shrooms native to the island.....

Still wondering why the "signal fire" in that one episode was also black smoke, but not in monster form...does everything that burns on that island make black smoke? LOL.

I tried to take a walkabout there but since the make your own test thing, there are pages and pages of tests and nothing about this other person being the black swan. At least I couldn't find it anyway and I went through 4-5 pages I think. Good luck finding it !! Shocked
