SEALs
Students for Equality Amongst all Life

After DeGrance posted the names of the SEAL on-campus members i PM'd all of them with interest in joining them. I got back responses from both JohnV and Jan.

John:

awesome dude I'm like totally looking forward to this. it is a chance for me to finally get to hang out with the cool kids like Jan. do you know Jan? I so want her to go out with me this year but don't tell her and I'll let you into SEALs!

i think that we have to build like some sort of website or something for us. i totally know how to do css but i've got no idea what nobody wants on the site. ooh you know what would be cool if we like had some sort of logo with a seal on it! do you know how to make something like that and if you do can i claim i made it so that Jan will be impressed?

I responded that a website was just what we needed and that I would try to help with a logo.

Very cool. As long as you're dedicated to the cause and you're not just looking for something to put on your resume, I'm down with you joining SEALs.

BTW, nice to meet you John

Yeah, I can see it now.

New York Times Interviewer: It says here on your resume that you were part of a group in High School called SEAL. Tell me a little more about that
Me: uhhhh...

Seriously, though. I'd really like to see a day when we can walk into interviews and not have to worry about who we are and what humans would think of us if they knew. If what is done in SEAL can change any of that, I want to be involved.

Hahaha. That's exactly what we're working for. It's nice to see someone on the same page! More for the cause! Woohoo! Smile And if you know anyone else who would be interested, refer them to me, but only if they're good looking. You can just send all the uglies to Diego. Hahaha Wink

Actually, I take it back. It doesn't matter what your friend looks like because they're probably too young for me anyway, and that would just be creepy if I lusted after some 14 year old. Agggh, gross (no offense). Rolling Eyes Yeah.

So it would seem that this is the way to get invited into SEAL.

I've sent a PM to Jan about my interest. We'll see what I get back.

I already had some communication with Jan.
I asked her about two thinks:
1) Is it safe to communicate about the Dragon Council via PM or did they observe the Messaging System
2) How to join SEAL

Jan wrote:

Hey Auz,

Don't we all? Props to you for referencing masks. Just don't let it get out that I have a youtube. They're not allowed.

Well, it seems a little difficult to have humans adjust to us when they don't know about us, but I think it's important we work towards equality and tolerance within our own Awlyn. If we approach the humans without a strong foundation, they can tear us and our ideals apart.

I hate to tell you what to do, but seriously, talking about the DC (on here at least) isn't recommended. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Um, I'm really unsure of how you can join SEALs, so I recommend you message Diego or something about it. He's the more technical, organized one of the bunch. Regardless, I'll remember to put your name down when we create all the SEALs stuff.

Peace out!

So it seems that DC is watching the school forum (wonder why she mentions her "forbidden" youtube account?). It seems also that SEAL has another way of communicating - some place where they can talk about the DC (see also JohnV quote above "i think that we have to build like some sort of website or something for us").

I will open with a disclaimer that while I support this organization personally it is not a Dragon Council supported organization and all students interested in joining this should organization should remember the Dragon Council's guidelines at all times.

Jan Weepman, Diego Castenada, and John Valentine are your on campus representatives for SEALs. If you have questions pertaining to this organization, please ask one of the three of them.

All SEAL activites that occur on this site shall occur within this thread and this thread only. I recommend that Jan, Diego, or John work with other students in establishing more reliable and private means of communication. Feel free to promote your ideals through the normal and open channels that are common for human society, but remember to obscure your identity and others' as Awlyn. This is the most important rule established by the Dragon Council and I expect each of my students to fully abide by this rule.

I think the youtube/etc rules are being relaxed a bit, even if it IS unofficial (as far as the DC goes).

Awesome! Better than anything I could have come up with.

Jan said almost the same thing to me about the youtube account, posted that in another thread last night...

And Nathan, when you find this, wish you'd coordinated and told me you were gonna be my freaking brother in game too... Razz

The logo looks great! I have been talking back and forth with Jan but nothing really of consequence has been said yet.

I PMed Jan. She told me to talk to Diego. She would barely even talk to me. Diego said

Jan and I really weren't expecting online members of SEAL when we first brainstormed the idea of the organization last year, so we don't have a blog online yet. Once we have our SEAL blog online - probably not until after we're both back on campus -we'll be sure to link you. You'll be able to join there.

Thanks for your interest. It's awesome that there are other Awlyn out there that are ready to fight for their right to equality. It really is a great cause: let's hope the DC gets their heads out of their tails and actually listens.

Got the same answer from Diego ... seems we have to wait before we can join SEAL.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should, but I figured I put my real name, and you put yours in your freakin' username, so I went for it. I'm under the assumption that since there can be a half human, half awlyn (as per the prophecy) there can be inter-species breeding, with children becoming one or the other (for simplicity's sake). So, Mom's a vamp, Dad's a demon. Should probably be the other way around, but you take after him more, and I take after her, so... meh. Works for me. PMs can just roll with it. Razz

I sent the logo and suggested Diego get a hold of Wes about getting a website set up. Wes knows someone at eye-gasm design (Novak maybe?)

I'm sure everyone that sent PMs will be invited unless it's based on your relationship with IG characters or something.

Hey, been e-mailing back and forth with Jan for a little while, figured I'd get these up there:

Quote:
Hey John, this is a MUCH safer medium, or so I believe. I mean, I talked to
Novak about it and he said that technically the admins can't read our mails,
but I really don't believe him. You know how adults are.

Well, we'll come up with activities as we go. Do you have any suggestions?
Diego and I have been exchanging ideas but...they're just tentative. If you
can, try and see what other people would recommend we do. I think it'd be
better that way instead of just having me and Diego declare what we want to
do and when.

For now, I'm not interested in swaying the DC's opinion. They're just a
bunch of old farts who want to cramp our style and are afraid of letting go
of their old traditions. I honestly don't know the hell why. Come on! JEEZ.
While I think SEALs may eventually approach the DC, we need to really know
what we're doing and actually achieve something before we talk to them.
Other students have asked me when we're going to act, and I keep having to
tell them the same thing. It's like...hush hush, sweet people!

Anyway John, I'm going to go eat. Peace out!

Man, they aren't taking any prisoners with the homework already, huh? The astrology homework might physically kill me. Like, dead.

It seems odd to me that the admins wouldn't be able to read your e-mails - after all, they are site admins, and your e-mail is part of the site, so it stands to reason that it would fall under their domain... I'd be careful if I were you. And who's this Novak guy that knows about the site? I don't recognize the name...

The activities, though; that's a tall order. So we want to stay within the Dragon Council's guidelines, but we want to do something before we approach the DC... Maybe some sort of petition? Show the Dragon Council that we of the new generation are ready to reach out our hands to the humans and try to make things better for all species. I know they're concerned about the abundance of negative stereotypes in human culture about us, but to borrow from Homo Sapiens' history, there were no progress against racial stereotypes until 40 years ago, in the Civil Rights movements of the sixties. No human is going to boycott our stereotypes for us, especially when they have these ingrained cultural images - we need to take back our rights ourselves. Besides, it's not as though we aren't without our own stereotypes ourselves. Nathan Dunn showed a couple of us his article on SEALs for the Fountain before he sent it in, and has this whole back-and-forth between Marikov and Franklin, supposed to represent a pro-human side (Franklin called you a 'doll' for coming up with the club), and an anti-human side, but both of them are quoted as calling humans an 'evil' race. I feel that's a little unfair - there are evil humans, but all awlyn aren't saints either. Their recent history has been, for the most part, one of progress and greater understanding - I think we could diplomatically reveal ourselves without issue.

So, um, in summation, we should start getting some SEAL stuff actually up on the forums, so we can show the Dragon Council that we're thinking about it like responsible young adults, not impulsively making contradictory ultimatums like children. Possibly a petition. The end.
Quote:
Hey John, you're like, ridiculously well spoken. Right now, as I'm munching on some freshly buttered toast, I'm in awe.

Yeah, the homework is just !@#$. I might actually have to stay in this Friday to do homework Sad

Novak is the site designer or something. I dunno? I honestly don't pay much attention to background people.

A petition sounds like a great idea. If only we could actually decide how we'd all talk. I'm seeing a lot of agreement on the idea of a forum that is also a chat, but I have no idea where to find that. We really need to get organized ASAP so that we can start being activists, and since I have no knowledge of creating websites/finding forums/etc., we can't really start. I mean, I thought I made it kind of obvious that we needed to choose, but no one seemed to pick up on that. I'm probably being too subtle but I don't want to be seen as the BBBOC. I might have to though. Maybe you could urge something or find something for us to use? I talked to John V. about it and he said he could make whatever I wanted, but I really don't know what I want yet, so I thought I'd leave it up to yall. Plus he's a creeper, and I kind of don't want to deal with him. Oh, how about we make a video montage with a short description about us? Like, I've seen videos where people are like, "I am _____, I like ______, and I am me". I don't know. I think it'd be cool. I seriously doubt the DC could interpret that as us coming out and saying we're Awlyn because technically we're not doing that, but we are however still asserting who we are without revealing that we're Awlyn. I mean for me, I would probably say that I'm Jan, I like being different, and I am me. Something like that, you know? It's a little hard to explain I guess.

BLAHHHHH
So I'm pretty impressed with your dedication. Everyone who messaged me asking to join SEALs has all of a sudden stopped messaging me? Looks like things have come to a dead standstill, which is not good.

BAH. MORE HOMEWORK.
!@#$%#$%^&^%$@#$%

Jan

And, um, I typed a response, extolling the value of the "weekly chat time with forum" idea and telling her to tell the forums about her video idea cuz I didn't 100% grasp it, or at least it's relevance, but it seems that my 'sent mail' folder doesn't include mail that I have sent in the past two years. Will update as events warrant!

I like how you sold me out. Jerk. Very Happy

Uh, seriously though, I thought that Diego had some idea for a forum/chat hybrid, and was going to follow up on it. Since he hasn't, I've pretty much been waiting. Maybe I should be more proactive...

Yeah I got this from Jan this morning.

Jan wrote:
Well right now, SEALs has come to a stand still because no one seems to want to find a forum/chat as suggested in our thread. John V said he'd make a site or w/e at my instruction, but since I'm so not technical, I'm relying on other SEALs members to tell him what they want instead. Alas, NO ONE has stepped up. We're never going to be able to appeal to the DC if we never get a website started. Evil or Very Mad Tell the other SEALs members about this or else they'll experience my wrath.

So are we trying to come up with a time/place to chat because we need to discuss the website OR are we discussing the possible chat capabilities of the website itself. I guess I'm now confused.

I've also been waiting for John V to chime in with his ideas. D'oh.

Just sent out a message to Jan:

I wrote:
So, how'd you like my article? I know, I left it on a counter-point, but I was trying to be as objective as possible, and that's just how it flowed.

How's progress on a site going? Diego mentioned that his sister found something that we could use, but hasn't said anything since. I have in mind what would work out awesome, but I can't find it. It's kind of a rapid-forum. Bah!

Anyway. We have plenty of time I suppose, school's just started, and this issue is too important to rush. I'm super-impatient to start, but I keep reminding myself that quality comes with time. Let's not screw this up.

Trying to be subtle in saying "chillax baby, it's aaaall gonna be oh kay."

I forgot about John V, but you're right, she mentioned that he had an idea, and then we never heard it. Well, who can write up some sort of forum/chat thingy? My html isn't so great, anyone experienced in this sort of thing?
