SPEC: Doorstep.jpg I was sitting in #ctw, and had an insight. Price followed up, and Doorstep.jpg appears to be stegged. I double-checked this, and got the same results. No luck finding the passphrase yet, but with everyones eyes, I bet we can nail this. Oh..and I tried ephemeral .

Here are the ones before the planets page...got very bored after chasing these ones down and gave up because the planets had been cracked by the time I got these...they may help in some way if it's a code though!
www.mythosphere.org
redirects to:
www.mythosphere.org/2728xt11notp1x23gy7.html
which (randomly?) produces one of 4 images (each loads with error on page each time on my PC - don't know if it's because of firewall but it doesn't seem to be...)
bird mx21pp10ewot2416mt7 ->6972ef34xxem96w42sl
tree mx98po40enntbfgrh4e ->
1164pr33namp115nton
beast mx73nq24cdry5gt6aas ->5120nt91sorn3uuu4yy
unicorn mx45zx39mnjh987yutf ->3644to72xotl0n4x321
before they move to planets page.
Hope someone is feeling bright out there...

SPEC: the filename holds the key If you go through the maze start to finish, without error, you see a total of 12 loaded pages imo.. Coincidentally, the filename of the 12th page with doorstep.jpg on it is no12sp14cdfm76p1x2y.html It starts with 'no12'
from there I'm lost.. Am I just too tired and reading too much into this? Or missing something obvious?

you pass a total of 22 pages from index.html to doorstep page. of these 22 pages, 10 are randomizers which send you to a different page, the first randomizer is the page with the "mythosphere.org" shavian text. two are forwarders which send you always to a fixed url, that's the index page and the random page with a guide image. 9 are pages with the planets' image.
here is the complete trail (> is forwarder, ? is randomizer, - is page with planets):

I believe there are 2 other trails that lead to no12. Starting at step 6 hq17, there are also paths starting from tn40 and ss92
If you retrieve one the redirector pages (using wget or some other method), you'll see the paths that are made available. In the list lanzz pasted, 6972ef34xxem96w42sl randomly redirects to 1 of 9 pages. Depending on the page you get, the sun position will either be hq17, tn40, or ss92 redirector pages.
If you view one of those redirector pages, you'll get sent to 1 of 4 pages. One thing to note here is that regardless of starting from hq17,tn40 or ss92, the set of redirector pages will be the same set of 4.
It looks like redirector pages on the trail after this have a set of 3 random pages.
The redirector pages for off trail planets appear to have only one redirector.
So if you follow the trail multiple times, you should get a pretty random set of urls overall. This kind of makes me think that there's nothing in the URLs themselves.

You can always find a way to detect a steged image. The progam best known for this is "stegdetect". You can find it off of google. Do note that you need to turn up the sensitivity.
The one on the website should be the correct image. Be sure to turn up the sensitivity by a factor of 2-4.

It's important to note that as you turn up the sensitivity you increase the odds of getting a false reading. Try the same sensitivity level on a few other images that you know are not stegged and see if you get any positive readings before you drive yourself nuts looking for a password that might not exist.

As a side note, I just happen to notice the faint dotted lines around the top three images. The first and third looks to be in a dotted-lined box, where the center image is outlined.

I noticed that as well. I think it's just an artifact of white around the images.
Perhaps the gods are quite adept at Photoshop yet?
