nothing said so far tells us what the spider is. its all metaphores and gibberish.
however if the spider warned dana maybe she could shed some light on the subject.
also does anyone else find it strange that the ai in ILB is talking about axons? especialy combined with talking about being "wide awake and physical". i think its talking about having found a way to control a human....scary

dumb question

Okay, I'm new here, I've been up on this stuff all day, and at this point it's all pretty much a blur, but I seem to remember seeing something from the Princess about the Queen sending the Widow away? (because she screwed up and built a road to the sea?)

So I'm wondering, does that mean the Operator has now gotten rid of the Spider? (And is this the point where the Flea comes in?)

In the Phase 3 Operator's Monologue the Operator herself says

The Operator wrote:
To this end, I have also managed to escape from the Spider.

- does that answer your first question? (Well, second; yes, you did see that.) As for the third - yes, again, though it's all speculation as to how exactly the Flea is involved, but we do have some information from the Princess haikus.

The Sleeping Princess wrote:
Queen's new counselor
"seek evade reveal resist"
Whispers in her ear.

Okay, thanks! You know, I just realized I must not have read the Phase 3 monologue - most of what I've got came Rowan's guide. I've barely been able to access the Wiki because I guess it's still being moved.

So I'm assuming the Flea is some sort of program that makes her keep her 'priorities' straight now that she's lost so much of her memory?

My dreams and desires, the jokes I thought were funny and the philosophy I decided was too abstract, The Tempest and Stormy Weather all reduced to a single distillate:

survive evade reveal escape.

It seems to be the genral consensus that the Sleeping Princess is another part of the Queen's personality; my theory is that she's somehow some of those 'dreams and desires' that have been locked away, safe but no longer a part of the Operator. (Now that the Operator has lost so much of her personality and basically become little more than a weapon, unfortunately focused on Dana...)

The generally accepted spec at this point is that the Flea is a Covenant trojan AI, picked up while Melissa was still in her ship. It appears right now to be overwriting Melissa's goals with its own, having killed the Spider.

Story So Far updated with Phase 3 info

Finally got round to updating the "Story So Far" with Phase 3 info (now we have a better handle on the Sleeping Princess and the mysterious Cylinder of Doom). I'll be able to finish off the footnotes once the Wiki is responsive.

I liked the Trojans and spartan ideas but it could be just a coincidence. spartans from halo and trojan computer virus. just seems the wrong type of subtle

however, they did mention a planet called troy where the ship was headed that was about to be attacked. Interesting aspect...

I did read something in the source code that directly related to the covenant, i forgot where it was though (it was on one of the tabs of the homepage at ilovebees near the bottom of the source document)

anyway, yeah the flea is almost definitely a covenant trojan-type program.

on that subject, isnt this just all building up to how the covenant discover eath in halo 2?

They were moving towards troy, this spy ship goes down on some random planet instead of returning, the spy mechanism on the spy ship builds its own agenda to use the operator to explore earth, and finds out where it is in space.

just thoughts

I think the story does lead up to the opening of Halo 2, but I don't think it's going to be a matter of us 'discovering' how it got to earth, I think in the end, we'll be the ones who (inadvertently) lead the covenant here... in our attempts to stop our coordinates returning to the covenant, we either can't stop it, or we're tricked and end up helping them get here somehow...

PS, the story is now compiled into one document - all the text, reads kind of like a novel, chronologically for each character... see my sig

I'm guessing you mean "The Covenant transmission?" which was near the bottom of hives.html. It's part of one of Melissa's Shipboard Memories.

I've been thinking the same thing the whole time. Most stories nowadays have to have a big plot-twist to be really memorable. I have the feeling when this ARG is near its end, we will find out the Sleeping Princess we have been helping all along isn't really the innocent bystander we thought she was. The PMs are going to lead us down a path that seems right to the very end, but we will have accidently helped the enemy. It doesn't matter if its the SP or whoever that we help, I just think that's how it's going to turn out.

the nice thing is, being an interactive ARG, if we think we know the answer, the PMs can easily change it around on us Smile so the ending is never for sure until the game is done Very Happy

I donno, the deal with the coordinates and where they lead to seems a little too unfitting. like, why did it get a whole list of coords ?

What i thnik (in mnore detail) is that it finally transmits this whole stirng of coordinates to the covenant and they observe the planet, we somehow destroy the thing and before its all the way dead makes some reference to the assassin and it ticks off the covenant somehow.

the sleeping princess twist would be cool but i think its the trojan doing all the work? (or is the sleeping princess the trojan? i frogot)
