I am that way. I have a full activated set, and an unactivated set. Plus a ton of extras.

Unactivated set?
Really?

I expect that once the books are over (or a year or two later) the website will be taken down (I can't see them keeping that up indefinately). So the whole activated/unactivated diferienciation becomes meaningless.

For me, I will likly collect a set of cards, but I don't really care if they are activated or not. If I wanted unactivated codes, all I have to do is to send a SESE to 39 clues, and I will get 16 of them (and I can do this as many times as I want).

Well sure, for practical purposes, activated/unactivated won't matter once the game's done, but it's still a significant difference for a collector, for whom practicality didn't matter in the first place. There'd still be a difference Smile

And (I think your comment indicated you knew this) the SASE only gets you codes, not cards, so it's not about unactivated codes as much as it is the cards that hold them.

Interestingly, anyone holding a full unactivated set might hvae to protect it, as there may be some out there wanting to devalue those sets by finding even just one code in that full set and activating one card so it's no longer an unactivated set. (well, actually that wouldn't be a problem once the activation method is no longer around, so that's moot).
heh, it's like a little collector's minigame as long as the game's running Razz

The Cards

Smile thanks. I'm going to walmart today to pick up another pack.

and the next original set won't come out until book 4. heh.

The thing is, these can easily be trading cards. Once you've got them all, you can decide not to activate any of them, then trade them with other people. Or you could just value collecting them, whether or not they've been activated, and still trade towards full sets.

I'll bet there will be some who will aim to collect a full unactivated set, not just an activated full set. It's like collecting mint cards Smile a real collector wouldn't sell a full unactivated set to someone who will use them - it would devalue the cards Laughing

I don't know if you live in the States (i don't) but if you do you should get your packs at Borders, they are 4.89$ea.

After the 2nd release day (Sept 10th) I was only missing 4 cards and still missing them (haven't bought any packs since...was lucky, only had to buy 6 packages (12 packs) to be missing only 4 cards.

Thanks to the Internet I got the codes for the Walmart, borders and amazon cards. So I only need 8, 9, 27, 58 (and 400, 402) to complete the first set.

Hopefully they come up on Ebay soon. Smile

Natalie's Strategy

Hello Everyone!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone passed level five on card #410? One "yes" will suffice. I just need to know if it is possible, lol. My friend and I have tried several times and can't seem to do it.

Thanks in advance!

tip: on later levels, when you need to score 4 in a row, you might need to sacrifice a turn or two (-points) to line up symbols in a row (+megapoints)...

I think that there are only 5 levels.

at the "how to play" screen it says that "There are 5 different levels"

The game ends after finishing level 5

I was in Border's earlier today and I was able to pick up an actual physical card from the display they had there. I don't know about the other ones.

Anyone living in the States and England won't be able to pick them up unless they come on ebay or someone is willing to sell or trade.

Well according to this FAQ:
Quote:
Will kids get duplicates?
Yes but unlike standard card games duplicate 39 CLUES cards still serve a purpose
online because each card has a unique code. Duplicates can be used creatively, yielding
different information, secrets and/or rewards each time.

I don't know what they mean by 'creatively,' but it sounds like there is some value in activating the duplicates.

A couple of the cards I got originally when I opened the game up and got when I bought the cards. They don't do anything except show you that you have 2 of the same cards.

In another line, they state you only need to buy one book, it will only give you the same card again.

yes, again, each book comes with the same 6 cards printed with the same single code, but each set of 6 cards - each book - has a different code. Enter the code, and you automatically unlock all 6 of those cards. Buying multiple books is in effect redundant, because it just gives you duplicates of the same cards.
Buy three of Book 1, activate 3 codes, earn 3 copies of each of the 6 cards that come with book 1.

The individual cards all have unique codes that are one use only.
The special cards (400+) only use one code each, globally - thus they're shareable (ie all #402 cards have the same code).

So, we have:
1) Each book has a unique one-use code printed on each of its six cards.
1b) Each book has one shareable card with a unique code that can be reused indefinitely.
2) Individual standard cards have their own unique one-use codes.
3) Special cards 400+ have a single code for each number which is also shareable (ie once someone knows the code for say 408, everyone can use that code and get 408)

Physical cards for 400+

Ok, so after visiting 4 seperate Borders, I finally found a physical example of the Borders card. So, in terms of 400+ codes, I have the following information:

Walmart G69CTWHC9T (as seen in All You magazine aparently)
Borders G69CKR3K9T (I can confirm that the physical version does exist)
Amazon G69D22369T (I can't confirm this came from Amazon, but it does work)

My question is, does anyone know of any other sharable card codes? Or can anyone confirm there is a physical version of the Amazon or Walmart ... meaning that there is an actual card and not just a virtual code)?

---
My surveillance camera codes are 22FC46MJX2 and 237DRWJJX2... use them and pass them on!

2nd Clue

I was just on answers.yahoo.com and they are saying that there is already a 2nd clue opened up. Has anyone else opened the 2nd clue?

well, not sure how to get the 2nd clue then, because I've done all the profile tasks (4 listed so far, each solved), and done what I can for each of the inbox item (now showing 4 for Cahill, Tomas, and 2 for Lucian).

I'm only missing a select few cards now. So unless the clues open up with certain cards being activated, I'm not sure where this 2nd clue is coming from. Or unless each country's clues are activated differently. *shrug*

my thoughts on the 2nd clue
if, indeed, this person has unlocked it

Well, they say that there will be 1 clue per book. This leaves 29 clues that the cards and games unlock. My guess is, if this person has really unlocked the 2nd clue, it is either because:

A. They have all the cards of the 1st set, and this in and of itself unlocks a clue
B. There is a specific card (maybe that one super-rare card) that is a clue in and of itself
C. They have finished their "training" and are able to combine cards to get clues.

While I have only unlocked 1 clue, there might very well be a way to unlock the second by now. However, I doubt it. Solastic is wanting to strech this out as much as possible (hence the "training" peroid that is only releasing 4 messages per week instead of all at once). They don't want people surging forward on book and card release dates with clues. They will want them to trickle in one by one, and they will want as much time as possible to pass between these clues (to extend the hype and the time 39 Clues is in the front of folks minds).

Remember anyone can say they have clues ("I am working on my 4th right now"... see, I just said it, even though I am really only have 1 showing which is unlocked).
