Deadpoems.com

There doesn't seem to be a thread for this page except for just the poems on it, so I opened one.

Some notes:

Ann Starling is likely to be the young girl who doesn't speak mentioned in the CMH Stories.

4 12 is in grey at the top of the page.

at the top left is a menu bar that doesn't seem to work properly.

Also, the site has updated since we found it. Now a popup appears when the main page loads.

I apologize for any difficulties and broken links found on the site in the last few days; apparently there was a server crash and they repopulated the pages from an earlier backup.

I've tried to get everything working and hope to be adding some new material in the coming weeks as well, despite polishing the book up for its mid-August release. Thanks for your patience.

Reed Singleton

This picture seems to be an Ann Starling original - a page from a notebook she kept while at CMH?

The art style looks similar to this watercolour:

And the Foreword:

deadpoems.com wrote:
Dead Poems - the Foreword
by Reed Singleton

This work is a collection of writings and drawings made by my grandmother, Ann Starling. The majority of her life was spent in a place known as Cambridge Mental Hospital. In her time, she was considered a 'sensitive', a person with great intuition. She made no secrets about her gift, and frequently proffered advice to everyone who cared to ask for it, and even some who didn't. It was this last bit that landed her in Cambridge Mental Hospital.

Perhaps there is some truth to the insanity rumors, but I prefer to believe that she had a unique ability to receive messages from others that had gone before her; that what seemed to be rambling monologues were actually one side of a dialogue between Ann and the Spirit World.

This collection is, therefore, especially important. It may not only contain my grandmother's words and ideologies, but the messages of others, especially patients at CMH. I truly believe in her abilities as a sensitive, and believe there are secrets waiting to be revealed, hidden somewhere in what could be called Ann's psychic writing. You see, she was not an educated woman, and for her to produce these poems and drawings, well, it's enough for me to believe she acted as a channel for the dead, hence the title, Dead Poems.

Reed Singleton

So... ghosts? The spirit world? Messages from others? There's definitely something going on here...

Another Pop up:

Messages from the Dead?

Ann Starling claimed the dead spoke to her in her dreams, sending her messages from the Other Side.

She put those messages in her poems and drawings. What will they say to you?

Probably nothing, but the initial caps -

MD ASOS SWFDPA

- contain not only a spooky "SOS" but also a "SWF", which is the extension for a Flash movie.

Flash is used extensively on other UH sites but so far not on DP... or is Reed trying to tell us something?

useless trivia - the last letters of the words in this poem spell EYBREED... "i breed"? apparently she did, she's got a grandson after all... Smile

or maybe we're not seeing the whole poem? maybe it's "they breed"?

random spec is fun, eh?

Important Announcement

I'm very sorry but the Dead Poems book has been unavoidably delayed by one week and will now go on sale next Tuesday, August 24th. There have been a few last minute complications in the printing of the book and I have been unable to get them all resolved despite my non-stop efforts. I realize many of you will be terribly disappointed and I'll try to find some way to make it up to you all. Please write to me if you have any suggestions.

I suggested to Reed to avoid his printing problems, he might want to consider an online version of his book.

[SPEC] I've noticed something over at the Deadpoems site... the poem at the bottom of the first page that loads has some potential connections to the CMH and DP pages:

"The old headstones are sprinkled with
Blood poured like water free
And speak in holy oracles
Of what was done to me"

The link could be tenuous, but considering that we're trying to solve both headstone and blood writing-related mysteries, maybe not.

Also, while I'm at it, my roommate noticed that all the TT documentation calls the show "House of Dread," not Dreadhouse, which puts me in mind of the "House of Dr. Ed" joke from the Wiki. And the maps feature 'faculty residences,' too. Hmm...

We're both new entries to the UH mystery, and so I'm not sure how much was made of this when it was first noticed, but I thought I'd bring it up, just in case. Maybe grasping at straws, but you never know. And, as always, sorry if I'm just reiterating some old thoughts.
