I am highly suspicious of tis "2nd clue". I have all the cards (except those for books 2,3 and some 400's) and I have solved all the cards and "tasks". I have visited every link they have on the site (i think Laughing )
...and I still have only 1 clue unlocked

2nd Clue?

Talking of the training 2 posts ago, didn't it say that after the training's complete, you'll get a clue? So I think you'll get the second clue after the training. And also, aren't the books just to help you? I think it will start getting more practical after book 4. It would get pretty boring without something much bigger! Like looking for clues to the clues on completely differerent websites? You buy the cards and there are lots of hints. If they really mean play along, it will get better.

There are other websites already
but I don't think a second clue

They are already using other websites. If you take a look at some refrenced in the cards (or extra material) such as:

http://www.nessielives.com/
http://www.friendsoftheorder.com/earlyyears.htm

You will see 39 Clues related material. So, since they have obviously bought a few other domain names, it is not a strech to infer they will use them for clue seaking.

However, back to someone finding the second clue... I agree, that once you are done with your "training" that you will likly either get a clue, OR get the ability to start "combining" cards to get clues. Right now I can't figure out how to make "combinations", so I am guessing that this ability comes after the training.

And indeed, this makes sence. Scolastic is going to want to strech this out, like I mentioned before. They will to maximize the amount of times you visit their site (and also extend the lenth of time of the "hype" for this series. So, it makes sence that they will only allow you further clues after you finish your training (which they are streching out by only giving you 4 messages per week). If they gave them to you all at once, folks would "surge" through them, and then surge through clues. That isn't what they want. They want you to visit the site every day. The only way to do that is to limit what you can do each day (to ensure you don't do everything at once and so need to come back later).

This brings me back to if folks have really unlocked the 2nd clue. While I admit it is possible, I find it unlikly. I don't think enough time has elapsed for folks to have completed their training (assuming 4-6 weeks of trainig ... I get 4-6 since there are 4 families but 6 cards you got when you signed up... we seem to be going through 1 family and 1 card per week.... so the training is likly to last this long). Since folks shouldn't be done with the training, it follows that they would not be able to get the 2nd clue. Remember, there are only 39 clues and years before the series is done (10 books at the current rate of 2-3 per year). I don't think these clues will be flooding in anytime soon.

Just my $0.02

No 2nd Clue yet

I believe that everyone will have the same clues to unlock at the same time, remember that this is a KID's game and will be very easy.

The clues will just be easier to unlock if you have the proper cards.
(or maybe it has nothing to do with the cards, they are just for fun and to read...who knows)

As for the Ultra-Rare card...let me tell you, it is not that Ultra-Rare. I got it in my first pack. (unless I'm really lucky which I doubt)

Also, last book is in Dec. 2010 which leaves 28 months, and I believe that most of the clues will come out in 2010 so I expect this to be real slow this year and the next.

I think actually it'll be fairly even, beyond this 'training' period - they want to capture people's attention, not bore them by being really slow. If they do the bulk of the game in the latter half, it wouldn't be attractive or accomodating to new folk who are just starting. If there's a fairly regular gameplay schedule, it would easier, I think, for people to join in, catch up, and get used to the atmosphere.
I see this training period as a kind of 'testing the waters' for adoption, how well the word spreads and people join in. Once the clues start coming, it'll need to still feel easy to join in for new folk, as well as making them want to join in =). If something rarely happens, it won't be too enticing, IMO.

Anyway, all beside the point... I don't think there's a clue 2 yet - as mentioned, it wouldn't be this hard to get it. Plus, it shows up first as locked, then you have to do something to unlock it. The first wasn't a 2-part task - you didn't have to -find- it then -unlock- it... it's there, then when you buy the card and solve it, that's when it unlocks.

but who knows what kind of tricks they've got up their sleeves Smile I'd like to think that if it seems to them their tasks for the target kid ages are far too easy, then they'll beefen up the difficulty a bit =) but that's wishful thinking. Something tells me they've got the whole thing already planned out. (plus I wouldn't call this an arg per se, as much as a mystery to discover and unravel with fun puzzles to solve; so far at least). Now if they throw some interaction into the mix, that would be cool.

Traing period

The training period is most likely to end when the 20th "email" is sent online. Looking through the sequencing, Four for the Cahills, then Four for the Lucians and then four for the next three branches meaning on the 6th week new material can be introduced.

I entered this code 27JKGF72X2, but did not do nothing

And here are some 400+ numbers I got from Angus & Robertson

G69GF9HN9T and G69K3JP99T

and yes the ultra rare card is not so rare as I have 2 in 4 packs

I Still dont get what the surveillance Card does?

Hello Bragoeser.

I entered your code and it worked for me. This code will give you the same card: 24F3cddrx2

As for the Surveillance card, I think it's purpose is to familiarize us with the different kinds of codes we may encounter throughout our adventure. One thing that I did notice though....I picked up a physical, (free) Surveillance card from Borders yesterday morning and the card number is 2, which I already have a #2 (Agent:Dan Cahill). When I pull up Surveillance on my online collection, it reads: #405. Hmmm?????

Are you sure that was the card number, and not a difficulty rating?
What's the code? If it's surveillance, it'll come as surveillance. If it's 405, it should work for us as 405 as well.
eta: 405 is known already actually - is it G69CKR3K9T? It is named Surveillance, but it's not a #1 type surveillance. (see my card list)

it's a surveillance card, gave me a #1.

Good Morning TheBruce.

yes, that is the code for the card, but I swear to you, the card I am holding in my hand right now has a #2 on the top left corner. The "difficulty rating" is at the right of the card, correct? I viewed the card list and it shows #405 there as well as in my online card collection.

Surveillance Card

I hope this works....I am far from computer savvy, lol. It may be of no importance, but then again, it may come into play if/when we can "combine cards"??????? Rolling Eyes I just wanted to show the #2 at the top left corner.

I have two cards (picked up an extra card for my friend's daughter) and they both have a #2 at the top. I don't want to cause any confusion, but I will keep a look out for anymore duplicate numbers. Out of my four trips to purchase cards, that was my first encounter with a "Take One" box.

I couldn't help but to giggle when I saw your image. It's so much better than mine, lol. One day I'll learn how to use this computer/scanner. Embarassed

heh, well that image is from the 39clues website, not a scan Smile

it could be possible that the box they received contains all mis-printed cards. *shrug*
it appears as though the 400+ special cards are sponsor/retailer specific.
