Muggle Quidditch
Possible ARG?

I'm not sure if this is an ARG or not. A week or so ago I clicked on an ad for Muggle Quidditch. (Quidditch, of course, being a sport played in the Harry Potter books. Muggles are those of us with no inherent magical ability and/or who wasn't born of magically inclined parents.)

It led to this web page:
http://mugglequidditch.org/
At the bottom of the website is this quote:
Quote:
Muggle Quidditch 2.0 respects personal privacy. Check back often for updates. Cave Inimicum.
Prepare for battle. The Sorting Hat awaits...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Don't know if it should be spoilered or not but the bolded letters spell out VERITAS

The web site says the tournament begins on Oct. 15.
Cave Inimicum is a spell in the Harry Potter universe used to strengthen an enclosure from enemies.

When I first sent my email address the "Not Approved by Ministry" message wasn't there.

Friday I received this email:
Quote:
Friend,

Serious trouble is afoot and Muggle Quidditch 2.0 is in danger...

How did the goblins find my trail so quickly? When did the Ministry begin monitoring the Muggle Interwebs? What does this mean for the future of this project? And my future…?

Alas, there is so much to be done, and so very little time. I have reason to suspect that any or all electronic owls I send may fall into the wrong hands, so I've encrypted my instructions and dispersed a series of clues across the globe. Yours is below:

Part Two of my Domain
This riddle's answer does contain:

No more than one is needed
For meetings clandestine;
Keep changing numbers heeded
To discover date and time.

So tread softly, and carry your wand at the ready. We need everyone we can get to join our cause.

Good luck, and Godspeed.

-L

Post Scriptum:
Five of five, together achieve
What one alone could not perceive.
A gambler's word, the safest bet:
Play your part on the Muggle's Net.

Muggle's net was a link to this website: http://mugglenet.com/

I've been busy this weekend and just found the email. I don't have a lot of time today to poke around the websites.

I was surprised to find that Muggle Quidditch is really played. There were a couple of versions mainly involving the golden snitch. In one version, two players dubbed the snitchers basically play catch with a ping pong ball while the rest of the game is going on. In the other, apparently played on some college campuses, the golden snitch is a person dressed in yellow who runs anywhere around the campus.

So I'm guessing the "Domain" refers to a web address we have to figure out. Looks like other people have been getting emails with different riddles. And each email ends with the same Post Scriptum:

Quote:
Five of five, together achieve
What one alone could not perceive...

So looks like there are five parts to the clue.

After asking around a bit, friend of mine admitted to receiving this a few days ago also:

Quote:
Part Three of my Domain
This riddle's answer does contain:

An ancient brigade, strong and true
In battle we gained our name.
As deadly Arrows around us flew,
Not a single man was slain.

So now we have parts two and three. Smile

No more than one is needed
For meetings clandestine;
Keep changing numbers heeded

No more than one is needed: that leaves us with one and zero. Binary, maybe?
Meetings clandestine means meetings that are secret.
Keep changing numbers heeded to discover date and time, meaning to keep changing numbers that we have paid attention to in order to find 'date and time'. I think that might mean a countdown of some sort, but we have to find what it's counting down to.

So, a possible meaning for the first riddle is:
Binary is needed for secret meetings,
Change numbers that you have paid attention to to find what time you need.
Just as a side note, the publishing of The Tales of Beedle the Bard is imminent, maybe they're not unrelated?

EDIT:
Pulled the background text from the source. Here it is, plus the html coding:
<p>

update

i accidently replied to "L" and this is what i received.

On tainted lines I cannot speak. Only muggles hold the answer you <a href="http://www.cosforums.com/forumdisplay.php? f=21>seek</a>. Remember: Five of five, together achieve What one alone could not perceive. -L

"No more than one is needed

Sounds like the D.A.'s galleons, which Hermione enchanted with a Protean Charm.

"Rooster and lizard
Would in ancient days maim
Three judgmental wizards
Who managed the game."

This probably refers to the 1792 Triwizard Tournament, in which the champions had to catch a cockatrice (rooster with a lizard's tail). The cockatrice went on a rampage and injured each of the headmasters of the three schools.

Rooster and lizard
Would in ancient days maim
Three judgmental wizards
Who managed the game.
Cockatrice

No more than one is needed
For meetings clandestine;
Keep changing numbers heeded
To discover date and time.

Numbers heeded: 10/15
Change them and one of the dates is 11/05-Guy Fawkes day

An ancient brigade, strong and true
In battle we gained our name.
As deadly Arrows around us flew,
Not a single man was slain.

???? All I can pick out is that Arrows is capitalized and therefore of some importance, maybe a name or place.

You seek the name of the brother
Of he who guides the story's path;
Exchanging tickets with another
For relief from Ministry wrath

He who guides the story's path? So it's not JKR, I thought about Dumbledore which would make it Aberforth, relief from the ministry wrath? Maybe he exchanged tickets (not sure what tickets means) to get out of something to do with the goat?

Five of five, together achieve
What one alone could not perceive.
A gambler's word, the safest bet:
Play your part on the Muggle's Net.

not sure what 'gamblers world' is, probably an interactive game like people have been saying.

also it always starts with 'part x of my domain' domain usually means 'www' then the address. parts f the address are answers to each part of the riddle. I'm not sure if I've got it in the correct order but if I'm right this means it should be

www.cockatricefawkesarrows(not sure about part three)aberforth

then I'm not sure about the other, i think it could be veritas but it seems to me like veritas is a password.

hope i helped.

The "ancient brigade" could be Amazons...

The arrow link would be that they cut of their breast to shoot better...since they're women, it's not the MEN dying...and the etymology of the word means "warrior", so that could work too.

I think the answers are all going to be related in some way to the Potterverse. This one sounds like the Wimbourne Wasps.

Harry Potter Wiki wrote:
The team adopted the wasp as their emblem after a game against the Appleby Arrows in the mid-seventeenth century, in which one of their Beaters batted a wasps' nest towards the opposing Seeker, who was so badly stung he had to retire.

BROTHER?

I'm just throwing this out there....

You seek the name of the brother
Of he who guides the story's path;
Exchanging tickets with another
For relief from Ministry wrath

In the story Deathly Hallows, Xenophilius Lovegood tells "The Tale of the Three Brothers" to Harry, Ron and Hermione. Although he is not narrating the entire story, he is giving important information pertaining to the plot. If I'm not mistaken, Xeno's brother was Xander Lovegood. Maybe, "XANDER" ???
As far as "Exchanging tickets with another....." His daughter Luna is being held captive and is why he tries to deceive Harry....to save his daughter.

Just a thought.

Woot, an HP ARG!
It's about time they got around to doing one Wink I put my email out but so far have not gotten a reply.

Did anyone else notice the quote at the top of the website reading "There is no good or evil, only power and those too weak to seek it"? Wasn't that a quote of Voldemort's, or am I mistaken?

Also, I think I found either a possible puppetmaster, or a character:
