In thinking about the page titles for http://the-electric-church.com/bellevue/ssf.html and http://the-electric-church.com/bellevue/ssf2.html and their differences even though the two pages are the same, I sent this email to Mariska:

subject: Does this mean anything to you?

998-456T77U-00-9-A-FF786

Which is the title to the ssf.html page and she replied with:

This has been changed.

She might be referring to how ssf changes to ssf2 after a minute or so, which has 978-0-316-02210-1 as the page title, but I think there might be more than that. Why change pages? I don't know... drawing straws I guess, but I really think we are missing something.

Very strange. The new user is "Siete" (or 'seven')

and his profile gives the following web link:

http://www.jeffreysomers.com/blather/7.pdf

which shows page 7 of the Digital Plague. (there is a link to the same page in the 'Links' section of Jeffery Somers' blog.)

His ICQ link (which doesn't work) gives his ICQ# as "7"

The title of the post: Siete es todavía vivo (Siete is still alive)

The post:
Quote:

Quando paramucho mi amore de felice carathon--mundo paparazzi mi amore cicce verdi parasol. Questo abrigado tantamucho que canite carousel.

These seems to be nonsensical lyrics (a combination of Spanish/Italian/Portuguese) from the Beatles' Sun King and don't really mean anything.

dunno Dunno Are we supposed to find something on p. 7? is this just someone screwing around?

That IS weird. I don't think it is a user posting though. I think it is a clue of some sort, I just have no friggin' idea what for. The only other 7 reference I can think of is http://the-electric-church.com/pathway/007.gif

Well, *sheepish grin* I began to be frustrated because I had no idea what we were even supposed to be doing/looking for next. Like, what are the rules of this ARG? and so I sent a couple of emails to Mariska, finally asking about "page 7", and she sent me this in response:

Quote:
> page 7?

/9780316022101/

So, that is the ISBN number and the title of ssf2.html, and of course it leads to:

http://the-electric-church.com/9780316022101/

Okay so the page gives us:
Quote:
007

08 | 63 | 97 | 115 | 122 | 131 | 134 | 152 | 165 | 220 | 228 | 229 | 233 | 296 | 304

Using the link to page 7 of the Digital Plague here, I took each of the numbers and counted that many words down on the page.

That gives:
Quote:

I | way | Dick | was | filled | that | wanted | They'd | walked | felt | then | heard | of | usually | the

First letters only:

IWDWFTWTWFTHOUT

So, there is a WWW in there and a DOT in there, but the stuff that is left over doesn't lead to anything obvious...

EDIT:
Since the title of this new page is "It takes character to persist in the face of such odds.", I thought that may I should count characters instead. Not counting white spaces, I got:

SOREEDEAFDGSVD

Again, nothing.

Maybe 'odd' characters? I dunno.

EDIT2:

Taking the specified number of odd-numbered characters gives me:

MOSCOIDNLORENNH

Lots of anagrams in that, but again nothing obvious.

Is anybody else even trying to follow this?

It says "THE DIGITAL PLAGUE" at the top of the page, maybe we should be including those 3 words instead of skipping them?

Yes, I most definitely am. I banged my head on this for a couple of hours yesterday and will make another bid later today.

Well, that seems to be ROT-13 for
Quote:
Input can out; has art encroach?

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, though.

EDIT:

Well running that through an anagrammer gives me:

Input can out = punctuation
has art encroach = character has no
(among other things that make less sense)

So is this saying that all of that work I did earlier trying to count characters has to be redone without the freakin' punctuation? grr.

EDIT2:

Counting characters, no spaces, no punctuation, gives me:

SULLEEIFIOOMOST

I have no idea if this is even on the right track anymore.

EDIT3:

Yet, I persist:

Including "THEDIGITALPLAGUE" in the character count, I get:

TPTVLLEEEHASADO

Lot of suggestive anagrams, but nothing popping out.
