Figured I'd offer up my two cents, though most of the interesting stuff seems to have been brought up.

I think that a Halo 2/3 campaign filler makes perfect sense. It would show what happened on Earth after Master Chief left for Delta Halo. If this was the case, then the player obviously couldn't play as MC, so with the drop pods and "prepare to drop" slogan, an ODST squad sounds reasonable.

Perhaps the SI is the Cortana of this expansion. You always need a voice in your head, it seems, so the SI might fill this role. Granted, he seems to talk in canned responses, but maybe he actually is capable of regular speech.

Anyway, just my opinions. Discuss away.

Time travel? Clue? Just footage from one of the Superintendent's cameras an hour earlier?

it could be that ONI or something just deleted the footage, or perhaps it was edited by the Superintendent

well for one thing, they completely changed the orientation of the slipstream rip because it's about 50 km WEST of the original tear, I don't understand this reasoning other than getting a better perif. of the tether in the whole downtown shot.

my theory on all of this is as follows:

fans who've read the book know that there was alot more action between halo 1 & 2 then the games indicated.

at the beginning of halo 3 as soon as you land Sgt. Johnson says "Why do you always have to jump? One day you're gonna land on something more stubborn than you."

The website halo3.com leads you to the "John-117" memorial, and ever since the games release that "memorial" has been about a battle that wasn't actually in halo 3, a battle that takes place in New Mombossa. And in the dialogue of halo 3 it mentions new mombossa being in ruins.

At the end of halo 2 MC was on the covenant ship that brought the covenant to earth, the ship was filled with the drop pods that the covenant used to get to earth, why would chief jump without one?
Also, out of all the pods in the video the AI chooses one pod and zooms in on it (or puts a line under it, whatever) in a fashion that's alot like the live action video where the marines have to tag MC's descent.

SO, from Johnson's dialogue, the spartan 117 memorial, the not-in-ruins New Mombossa, and the "prepare to drop" tagline i believe, and it is entirely possible, that this is the war that took place that the John-117 memorial keeps referring to, and that it is the in between filler from halo 2 to halo 3 that explains how MC got from the covenant ship to where he was in halo 3

First off: here's the updated trailer. We now know that yes, it is a campaign expansion called Halo 3: Recon, launching fall of next year. In it, you will play as an ODST who survived the slipspace event. And, I was right that the SI will be your guide for at least a portion of the game. I wonder if he'll use just the city systems to guide you or if he'll actually communicate with you.

Also, I think Halo: Uprising detailed how MC got from the Forerunner ship to the beginning of H3. Don't know, since I didn't read, but I believe that was the intent.

I'm sure that we'll receive more in due time, but it could be a few weeks until our next morsel. If we can still do 4-player co-op, that'll be sweet. I'm also hoping that there'll be at least a small ARG to go along with the launch.

Anyway, just thought I'd pop in with an update.

4 player co-op is confirmed as well as added multiplayer content. This is an actual stand-alone release; yet at the same time, a halo 3 expansion.

Lastly, now that they posted that trailer; it seems like nothing is going to take off with this; no play this time around I'm guessing.
