I just got the first puzzle in the mail today. So dang easy I got it open in a half hour. Tried to take my time with it because I recognized it operated on the same principle that cheap bike locks use. I looked up clues to which way the pieces were to be aligned, which weren't much help. So used the bike lock approach and it opened. Just to feel like I got my money's worth, I'm not taking the scroll out till tomorrow. But I really want to keep going on the series.

I got the pieces of DaVinci Code apart and one of the blocks has markings on it. I assume they are for The Equation. Is that true?
And what do they mean?

Yes, I think it is relevant to The Equation judging from the clues for the first two puzzles. However I don't think anyone has found out what the relationship is. It took MONTHS for any solutions to The Equation to appear here, it's a hard puzzle.

Here's a contentious claim: I don't think any of the solutions presented to The Equation so far is the right one - they all manage to fit all the pieces onto the base, which is really difficult to solve in itself, and well done to all who have managed to do so. However none of them seem to fit the clues or to relate to this piece from Da Vinci ....

Carta Blanca

Dear Lizab213,

I get what you are saying about the pin(s) needing to be removed from that central partition. I get that. When you try to slide that lid of you meet with resistance. I just put a LOT of time into it this weekend with no luck. I cannot figure out how to shake it, spin it, or jiggle it in such a way that the interior cogs position themselves correctly.

At a loss,
A. Smith

 To the attic
The Equation

Sad I can't do this without help. I've tried since Christmas. I have the puzzle together in such a way that it looks like it makes a negative 7. I don't know what the heck that means. I just do not get this puzzle. I just want to type in the solution and move on to #3. This whole puzzel thing was a great idea and they are nicely made - but I have packed up all up and I am moving it to the attic. If someone has the solution, password and or the explanation - just post it. It has been out for over a year so you are not spoiling it for anyone.

My Equation puzzle is arriving by FedEx today. I don't know if I'll be any help, but I'll give it a good shot. I'm excited.

The Equation

Ok, got my Equation puzzle and fooled around a bit with it along with the observations in this thread. I put it together using the 3 pictures I found here. The first picture from Musical99 on page 10 of this thread has a curious appeal to it. Part of the clue from DaVinci that you get when you enter the password is "You will discover one complete formula: not necessary to solve The Equation, but retain it to further your quest." The solution provided by Musical99 has an upside down L. How it's oriented on the base is important. If oriented in a particular way, removing the dark pieces (which may or may not be what's supposed to be done) reveals "E=MC2" twice and also "42 6xP4". If this is correct, then in effect it reveals one complete formula (twice) and one incomplete formula.

EDIT: Since the upside down L is backwards from the L symbol on the DaVinci piece, I flipped the puzzle over and tried the different orientations on the base again. In one position, removing the L showed the same 2 formulas, but of course one of them is incomplete. The small dark block off to the side showed part of the F=dP/dt, but not the whole equation.

Aside from that observation, the clues are still riddles to me. I think the "step" is the piece from DaVinci, but not sure how it applies. Putting it on top of the puzzle like in the clues, sort of resembles a step. The symbols look like various parts of the puzzle.

Oh, one other thing. The clue from the website: "The telescopic vision is not as it appears - it is the beginning and the end of another." In the instruction pages with the puzzle is a diagram at the bottom of the Spanish instruction page. I feel that diagram may be important like the DaVinci Man diagram was important, too. The diagram just "seems" telescopic, but I'm sure it has a different application.

Maybe I'm just talking to the air, since not many are into this anymore.

That's very interesting, "Guest". I'll have to try that, but no one has mentioned or shown that solution. The dark brown pieces must be the "slots" in the E?

Yup - nice and safe in the attic...

The E is an interesting turn of events.

What does it signify?

It seems no one is interested in this anymore. I found out about these puzzles a year late and missed all the interaction. It would be nice to get more dialogue on this again. Or a little more help from the ones who have solved it (The Equation).

I wish I was very interested in this still, with how hard it is to get the passwords, it breaks my interest.

For those that are coming into this discussion now, I suggest reading the back log. There is a lot of good discussions regarding Equation's password. I think the end idea is it has a lot to do with eclipses.

It's good to see this thread is still going. XD

I've attached two ways I got all the bits to fit into the base. One left a gap, and meant the pieces were quite tight. The other they all fit nicely. On neither is anything leaping out at me; I'm all for ideas if anyone has any?

For those of us curious Brits... could someone post a clearer picture of the maps on the sides of the boxes? They should all fit together to make something (hopefully) meaningful.

Oh, and I've no idea if this is relevant or not... But, if:
42=6xP4
Then P = 1.75.

Just a thought. No idea how that's relevant. XD

well designed?

i recently got the 1st 3 puzzles. it is an interesting idea, but are these puzzles well designed?

i did like the multi-stage aspect of davinci's secret. but the clues only get you within 4^5 solutions. of course i "picked the lock" easily, but an elegant solution would lead you right through the door.

honestly i tried many hours and couldn't come up with a solution for the equation. so i wrote a little program and have found ~400 solutions so far...

so much for there being 2 solutions. another case of ill design? the program was a little slow so i tuned it up a bit and am running it again. it eliminates the 8 standard variations (all flips and rotations) of a unique solution. many of these new solutions are also "trivial" (a few pieces interchanged), but they are unique.

i think the idea is to find the 1 solution that matches the clue in the secret. i will see what turns up, though it is slow going (i let the first one run 2 weeks).

as for legend of kings, i picked it also easily, but am trying to solve equation first before i go on.

Tlag N.
