there's no way they would exclusively package the Halo 2 demo in the OXM if it is in any way related to ILB. The reason being that people will be getting this magazine at different times. Don't people with subscriptions usually get the mag before it hits news stands? Seems like having a timer that will either be late or early for certain people is a little shoddy.
Of course, I'm not gonna offer any other means of distributing a demo disc because it would make sense to do it in OXM. I just don't think it is related to ILB.

Some facts, some speculation. A lot of times special holiday editions of magazines are not offered to subscribers and can only be bought at a newsstand. Such is the case with a few of the Maximum PC magazines, I know that for a fact. (How to master WinXP and whatnot). This is why they could actually have a factual date for the magazine because it's not supposed to be put on newsstands until the 24th and it is not being sent out to subscribers.

Amish, they released the Halo demo 5 months after the game was out..... And a demo realease now looks like a good ending to this game, BUT nothing can be confirmed, this could be a coinicedence......
Just because the demo for the first Halo came out 5 months after the launch of the full game does not mean Halo 2 will come out under same timeframe. I'm sure that Microsoft and Bungie are not forced to release the second game's demo months after the full game release just because that was the case with the first game.

Very good point Tron.

oxm The best theory I have heard so far to go along with ilb and the xbox magazine is that the "metastasize" timer could be when the issue of the magazine will be printed and sent to subscribers. This oxm issue most likely will be sent to subscribers since I am a subscriber and did recieve a holidy issue last year. And by the way, looking back, it did come with a demo disk with some demos of pretty good games. The two week difference inbetween both timers may also back this up since last week I recieved the Sep issue, which won't be available in stoors for a week or so.
I don't know if I really believe that they are necessarily releasing a demo of halo 2, but it is a possibility. Hopefully new videos at least.

Well, since it's metastasizing and whatnot, what if the OXM had references to bees in it, like instead of another site popping up they give us an issue that's totally bugged out with more clues and crap for the game. That makes more sense than a surprise H2 demo to me.

Not quite sure what the rules are here regarding bringing up old topics, but I couldn't help but notice that on the Disc and Challenges page (one back from the "Preview Gude" there's an interesting filler text at the bottom:

'TIS THE SEASON: We're heading into the time of the year when you'll be seeing lots of games come out...and that means more demons. Hold on tight, folks, it's gonna be fun.
Maybe I'm reading too deeply into this, but OXM has stated before that odds are, they'll be the first with a Halo 2 demo....coupled with the fact that there really aren't that many big names they could have a demo for at this time--except Fable...and a certain other FPS that we've been waiting for for a loong time...

message from Frankie Frankie, the man behind Bungie's weekly Halo 2 updates, recently posted here:

and said the following
Quote:
Halo 2 comes out on Nov. 9th or Nov. 11th for the UK. It does NOT come out on Aug 24th. You know what does come out on Aug. 24th? Some OXM special which does NOT, and I repeat does NOT have a Halo 2 demo on it. No clue how that rumor gained so much momentum. But to reiterate, Halo 2 comes out Nov. 9th or Nov.11th for the UK.
Sigh.
So is he too suggesting that OXM is behind all of this?

I say OXM is not behind this. The release date of the Holiday Special may or may not have anything to do with the ARG. However, the ILB address popped up in a Microsoft sponsored ad in theaters nationwide, which had absolutely nothing to do with OXM. OXM is run and owned by a company not affiliated with Microsoft, an entirely separate entity. It would be nigh-impossible for them to arrange the ILB address in the theater trailer.

how many of you have palyed an arg before and are willing to accecpt that the timer will probably have absoutly NOTHING to do with Halo 2
The original ARG (The Beast) was put together by MS. If you look at the logic then you will come to the conclusion that this could be The Beast II and that the most efficient way to establish a trailhead was to put the link in the halo 2 trailer. I belive that the trailer was changed a few days AFTER the honey was recieved by the ARG Community.

Abndm when you looked at Beast, how much of it was actuallyt based on the AI storyline/ it was more based on the background setting to that world. This one is possibly the same mold, so I dont tibnk that following Halo2 itself will help too much, but thats me...

Hey waterboy, how about the references to marines and ONI technicians in the text, does that have NOTHING to do with halo's story or halo 2 at all? Oh right, it does. Just because former ARG's have had little to nothing to do with the storyline of what they were loosely based around doesn't mean that a new one won't. If everything stayed the same the world would be a boring place and ARG's would be no fun whatsoever. Either way, i agree that some people are reading way too far into this to try to make connections between printing artifacts in a book and this. But saying you are 99.9999999% sure this isnt about something it so clearly is, is just ignorant.

I'm more of the opinion that something Haloverse but not Halo2 related will be announced/released via the ARG. Perhaps a new book, or (gasp) Movie plans?
For all we know, it could be an ad for Red Vs. Blue, season 3. Aside from a questionable anagram, I'm not sure we should expect anything game-related. If Bungie is adamant there's no demo, don't get your hopes up.
