Posted on Behalf of Zerothalpha (transcript of a PM I just received...) Hi, I can't seem to post a msg on the board because of the stupid image confirmation thing is really messed up.
Right now when you search vaster.nl, it says:
sms servicios costa rica
I also called Mark from the number on quantum sat. He is part of the Minnesota health services but has no idea why his number is on the site.
I asked if maybe his coworkers were putting him there but I guess he doesn't know. He's hoping people will stop calling him because its his work number directly to his line in the dept.
I was the first one to call him this morning (so I am told). I explained to him about the situation and he told me he had no idea why his number would be there. Another dead end. the numbers are more interesting to me. not the 1449GMT but the 02##078777##909# set... is it trying to replicate some sort of gps location or are we suppose to find the missing numbers?

ALSO I actually called the phone # 651-201-4859 on the quantumsat.com homepage and got someone named Mark who actually is not related to the game at all,who in coincidence actually signed up to play recently.
That seems a bit of an ... improbable coincidence. Did he come across as surprised that you'd called him?
He didn't seem too surprised, as he said he had received a bunch of calls from people who played the game. All he did is asked me where I was from, and where exactly I found the phone # at because he has yet to notice where it was at.

Twitter Hashtag Hey guys. I'm from the American Red Cross in Portland, Oregon. I'm playing Traces of Hope, and blogging my progress as I go.
I was wondering if anyone has established a Twitter hashtag for ToH discussion? It would be helpful I think.

The DATASAT 100 S.L.I.K. Pdf... Just thinking more about this... I would guess, from the little info actually contained in the document, that we will eventually be asked to help Joseph use his phone's advanced GPS features.
Of course, to do this we'd need to have figured out the phone's (Alan's) S.L.I.K. pin. So we should be on the lookout for this...
Also, and this is pure speculation on my part--as if the above wasn't already--the pdf absolves Quantum of any responsibility for data loss or physical harm as a result of using the phone's GPS features.
This might be some foreshadowing for events later in the game...

Hey RCR. Welcome to UF and to the game. Our "typical" mode of operation here is to use the forums for our game-related discussions. If things really heat up here, or if the game looks to have some potential, thebruce will typically set up a Wiki at his site to help aggregate all of our in-game knowledge.
Since you're blogging about the game--what is your blog's url, btw?--there's no reason you couldn't use twitter yourself to also help with game alerts...
If you do set up a twitter feed for the game let us know...

I'm trying to figure out the relevance of the link to http://www.spinebreakers.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx from the http://www.quantumsat.com/hq.html page.
Anyone familiar with spinebreakers?

I won't trout you on this one....
In my first post I link to a website that talks about Alan's upcoming book, Traces of Hope. That website was spinebreakers, which looks like an otherwise oog website.
I think the link was mistyped on Alan's LI profile, and should read:
http://www.spinebreakers.co.uk/books/tracesofhope/Pages/BookDetail.aspx
Other than providing background support for the character, I don't readily see any relevant information on the book's page. Maybe you can see something I don't....

Possible Game Sponsors... In further response to Rogi Ocnorb's question...
Spinebreakers seems to be a book promotion site owned by Penguin Books.
We know that this is a UK Red Cross game, but it seems that there might be other sponsors involved... namely Penguin (since when you click to buy Alan's book from his spinebreakers page it takes you to the Penguin website...) and Reuters, since I can't see the otherwise legit news organization liking the fact that this game with some international visibility is associating it with a fictional reporter.
Perhaps I'm stretching here, and I doubt that these other companies will have a bearing on the game itself, but I thought I'd bring this up for discussion...

ETA a sui-trout since the ARGNet article on the game clearly stated that Reuters Alertnet and Penguin have partnered with Enable and the UK Red Cross.

Hey guys! I think I will sit in on this and see how it goes, as LOST's Dharma Initiative game is wrapping up, and I really need to get in on a real ARG for a change. I do hope though that it doesn't get too graphic with the real-world plight aspect, 'cause then I would probably drop out; that would be way too disturbing. But till then, I hope I can be of some help to ya all!

jlr,
maybe the numbers are part of the SLIK code needed to activate the GPS functions on the satphone? Something to ponder.
I'm really looking forward to this game. My first arg was Tomorrow Calling, which seemed to have stopped and not gone anywhere, so I'm excited to get in on this one.

@okjoker...
That's a possibility. We'll have to keep your idea in mind. Of course, much depends on how/when/if Joseph contacts us again.
It seems that Zerothalpha is still having issues posting here, so I've received another PM that I'll excerpt:

this link is a new one I just found with the same error code as well as the reference to vastert.nl. What does it mean? I wonder if this page is a clue or maybe someone is just commenting on it randomly?
I may be looking at many dead ends but I think its worth exploring since I still can't understand about the numbers.

If you remember from a post of mine above I tried to email the Salesperson responsible for SLIK purchases to see if we could get a hold of it. I got this automated reply from GMAIL since the message seemed to be undeliverable:

NUMBERS those numbers the 02##078777##909#
are a british telephone number IF you of course remove the ##'s. it replicates a number i found for a Mark from Enable except the last few numbers (ext?) are different. If you add the UK Country code 44 to the front, those numbers are a telephone number. Will probably try to call it today with Skype and see if I can find out anything.....If anyone else tries first, let us know.
AND I think the other numbers BRC293 are possibly a pin for the sat phone.
BRC stands for British Red Cross?
Just my thoughts.
Have had no further contact or info though....Would love to hear if anyone else has more thoughts.....or does everyone just play on weekdays?
