Boundary issues This thread has brought a very interesting issue before us, concerning game boundaries... here's my two cents:
The official FAQ Rules stipulates:
(12) Since this is an "immersive" game, can I pretend to be a character in the game?
Chasing The Wish players may not pretend to be "in-game" characters through either message board posts or any other form of contact with other players or the press.
Now, notice the absence on PMs in the list of forbidden fake contacts...
I honestly believe we are expected to play this game as ourselves, but this being said, nothing prevents anyone from impersonating someone else "in-game".
I believe that should a character doubt any player's fake identity, they could (easily, depending on their status) run a background check and find no such person or major discreptencies in the case of a stolen identity.
In this case, as long as the doctor has no reason to doubt, i think we should take advantage of it while we can, who knows, maybe Dave will play along in the hopes of contacting the helpers he wanted...
Pickles, i tip my hat to thee, jolly good show!

Dales' brother hasn't been mentioned in the story so far, so he's not being impersonated. I think that Dave meant we can't impersonate someone he's brought into the story, not someone we've created.

this doesn't change anything. he might have no brother at all, but as long as michelle kendra isn't aware of this and believes "josh strang" is dale's brother, it is a valid impersonation, not a creation of an in-game character. if pickles had used his real name in the email (i presume it is not josh strang), would he be creating himself as an in-game character? don't think so. the PM's can have the character do a background check and discover the fraud at any time they decide someone is going too far, as it has been mentioned already.

The PMs will find a way to let you know if you've stepped over a line they've drawn. Trust me on this.

Dale is getting out!!!
Just recieved this today

Dear Mr. Strang,
You will be happy to know that I am filling out the paperwork for your
brother's discharge, and I'm hoping that I can even get it all set by tomorrow
afternoon. If you can get here by then to pick him up, great, but he's got
friends nearby who can come get him as well. I'm sure he'll be very happy to
see you, and I'll let him know of your delay.

Very cool.
I'm going to put my couple of cents in on the impersonation of ingame characters.
Personally, I wouldn't do it. But that doesn't mean that we can't or shouldn't. Remember all the previous fakings done in this game so far (including military)? There's nothing that says a player sending emails that say he/she is someone's relative makes it so. Like was said, the real ingame characters have the ability to see through disguises. Undercover work is a big part of the real world, so why can't that transfer over to CTW?

I don't think this really counts as posing as an ingame character. No one has mentioned Dale having a brother, so he hasn't been "in the game" so to speak.

Plenty of people pretending to be friends though...that's as much creating an in-game character as a long-lost brother, IMHO. I interpreted not imitating an in-game character as meaning, for example, not to e-mail Dr Kendra pretending to be the Chief of Police and tell her to release Dale...tempting as it may be

My take on this, the meaning was we aren't to impersonate in-game characters in regards to im'ing or emailing other players. Calling someone up pretending to be Dale or whomever and spreading fake clues or information would obviously be detrimental to the whole experience. Witness what happened over at NoahBoddy when they didn't know who was in-game and who was not.
Again, I gotta agree with Wolf (a former PM btw) that the CTW PM's will definitely let us know if we've crossed a line.
