Hey alagamer.

Welcome to UF and to the game. Thanks for confirming some of our suspicions about the numbers being for a phone.

Could you give us a better idea of the voice mail message? Were you able to leave a message yourself?

Search "Traces of Hope" at AlertNet, there's an article about the campaign and at the bottom a link to a night-time vid of Joseph trying to avoid gunfire while out of the camp gathering firewood. Alan is the poster and if you click on his profile there's this message [along with numbers and gobbledy stuff I'm assuming could be real or imposed "upload" artifacts ... or not?]:

Quote:

There is no particular message - just please leave after the beep stuff.

Nothing that connects it to anyone or anything..

Im happy to leave a message but as its hard to work out who the answerphone actually belongs to it is hard to decide what to say! any help welcome.

Im guessing at moment we might just have to wait for more contact as every lead I follow seems to be a dead end

So I replyed to the message from J asking what he was going to Hopetown for and asked if he needed any help with anything.

Hey sexie and cat... great to see more people joining in.

@sexie... don't hold your breath waiting for a response. Thusfar, all of the Quantum emails are "dead". Kind of a shame, really, to prominently display several email addresses and not expect people to try and use them...

Oh well.

As klang and others have said, it looks as if this is a waiting game for now... (unless we're missing something really obvious).

How about this... for anyone who wants to and can call Alan's sat phone, why not leave a message asking if Joseph made it to Hopetown. This would be reasonable considering he emailed us to say that's where he was headed.

Any other ideas?

You're assuming we have to wait for something instead of a puzzle being there already, just because it hasn't back handed you in the face doesn't mean it's not there. Cool

Slik is web based, so there must be a url somewhere. We clearly need to find this to use with the map uploaded at http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanhackston/2918330947/sizes/o/

Incidentally, Alan Hackston added me back on LinkedIn. His contacts are someone at Enable interactive and one of the Red Cross web team (and me now)

Hey tkerby and tephi. Glad to hear from the both of you!

Yes, tephi, I think many of us have been tapping our fingers, though I agree with olly... Just before going to bed last night, I realized that I hadn't looked at Alan's blog or other accounts since first finding them. So it was always possible that the next part of the story was being revealed and (at least) I was missing it.

From tkerby's discovery at flickr, this suspicion might just be right.

So, a map it is... although, I don't think it's absolutely "clear" that we're supposed to be using Slik and this map at this time. It would seem that we'd have to have another prompt from the story, which is what we've been waiting for.

Well, unless he's able to do this from the road--either through his phone, or stopping at an internet cafe--Alan's and Joseph have made it to Hopetown. (I can't see someone in the middle of a fix ducking into an internet cafe to update his LinkedIn profile...). So, Alan's safe at least.

This brings me back to wondering why Joseph hasn't chimed in again.

This Teaches Me To Read...

Just took a look at Alan's blog and he has been posting for the last few days. He and Joseph did arrive in Hopetown... but it seems that Joseph has Alan's phone and has written the last post on Alan's blog.

I've just added Alan's rss feed (http://alanhackston.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss) to my aggregator, so that I don't miss any other posts on his blog..

Now I'm off to read and catch up...

ETA... Okay, the new posts set up the story. We learn about how Joseph was separated from his family, and about why he's trying to get to Hopetown.

While at the camp, there was an attack and Alan charged off to take pictures. He dropped his phone, which Joseph retrieved... So it looks as though Alan is missing and Joseph is alone.

So the phone is our main communication point. I'd bet that the voicemail account klang called is Alan's. Joseph is able to post on Alan's blog, which means he has that account access somehow... Maybe he's figured out how to check Alan's voicemail... (or his phone is like my ATT mobile phone, where if I call the voicemail from my phone it automatically rolls into the account so I can check messages).

At any rate, it might be possible (and make sense IG) to leave Joseph a voicemail. Any volunteers?

Pressing * on the voicemail gets you into the admin menu where you can record greetings and listen to messages although it needs a pin code 81 is the option you need to login
