I thought I read a blog somewhere by someone who received one of these cards, and they were told to try 'henna' or something to do with the Bible. The blog post wasn't clear. I'll try to re-find it later.

yeah, the word for 'henna' used in the KJV Song of Solomon (1:14 ad 4:13 to be exact) - 'camphire' which takes you to TheGardenWall and the message board. 'henna' itself doesn't do anything.

update on Savannah's FB wall (approx 15mins. ago): "Savannah is counting down the minutes until Temperance appears on www.citizensofvirtue.com."

Message machine?

If there's an actual message on the machine, I left one on 701. The guy says "the person who runs fruit of the garden...well...I've known her all my life." So I left a message for Xander telling him to email me if it's him.

Also, any ideas on the interview I've secured with Pastor Grace?

other fruits

I've tried these:

KJV NIV Reference

"Flagon" = raisins (SoS 2:5)
"Apples" = apples (SoS 2:5)
"Figs" = fruit (SoS 2:13)
"pomegranate" = pomegranate (SoS 4:3)

Then there's a list of seven:
"henna" = camphire (SoS 4:13) THIS WORKS - obviously
"spikenard" = nard (SoS 4:13)
"saffron" = saffron (SoS 4:14)
"calamus" = calamus (SoS 4:14)
"cinnamon" = cinnamon (SoS 4:14)
"myrrh" = myrrh (SoS 4:14)
"aloe(s)" = aloes (SoS 4:14)

So that would have been convenient to have seven fruits, but no luck there.

wow. ok, I'm... impressed, to say the least...

projectyl on FotG posted his findings - Xander did hack the virtue... and not an obvious hack. This is very nice...

SPOILERS below if you want to figure it all out yourself... (not gonna bother to spoilertag it)

Listen to the "I'll Find The Way" audio track - there are a number of instruments, that while basically fitting in with the music, don't actually belong... Projectyl managed to name most of them:
* saxophone
* xylophone
* tuba
* harmonica
* washboard
* drums
* flute
* cowbell
* harp
* trombone
* clarinet
* kazoo

take the first letters and fill in the spots and you get SiXTHWorDoFeaCHTraCK (lower case is filled in)

If you look at the lyrics of the fourteen songs, and again take the first letter of each sixth word, you get: HISRAGTIMEBAND

Shocked Silly

that, at least is as far as things have got

ETA: ah, ok, in the CoV FB group, Eric posted the hint... in the Temperance video, as he's quoting 2 Timothy 2:20-26, the akwardly silenced few seconds is actually be another hack - the muted phrase fom the verse is "instruments for noble purposes" - the pointer to the extra instruments in the track.

Daily Inspirration

The CoV passage: "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the first of six groups of the field." (TNIV, 1 Peter)

Unfamiliar with the TNIV I checked their versions of this passage Online and could not find the ending "first of six groups of the field". Equally happy if someone more versed(groan--pun) knows its validity.

Props and THX on the music decoding as all I could think while listening was when does the cowbell come in. Smile

you're right, and the quote isn't right... Razz

TNIV 1 Peter 1:24 reads: 'For, "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,'

So in the quote: "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the first of six groups of the field."
the bold would also be Xander's hack, hint for his message (or perhaps 'group' means 'band' and there are 6 bands to find? "His Ragtime Band" being the first?)
Cool

Family Tree

Has anyone noticed anything about Lila Greene's family tree?

This is an interesting game. I found about this from another forum. I followed the clue from JesusWantstoSavetheChristians.com to the garden and found the secret area. I also tried calling the number, but it was a clue for a puzzle I already solved.

Could "His Ragtime band" be a reference to "AleXANDERs' ragtime band" By Irving Berlin. Probably coincidence, but might be something. The movie's about a guy who despite his family's wishes peruses ragtime instead of "serious" music. Sounds like at least a small coloration.

I also sent a e-mail on a whim to the e-mail contact at COV, basically saying Lila Greene is worried, and asked that if there is a Xander Greene there he could be asked to contact his worried Aunt. I got a simple reply back thanking me and that she would check in to it. (No real leads, but interesting). I'm curious is there's more to it, or that's the end of the game.

Welcome to unfiction foolster! (and biola Wink)

Yeah the Alexander's Ragtime Band connection seems pretty blatant... but it feels like there should be more than just "hey, it's me, alexander".

One more thing...

Hey, all!

I've noticed one other potential hidden message so far: Check out Tabitha's letter on the Camp Francis page. The string "vent" shows up way more often than can be attributed to chance, in words that seem awkwardly worked into the story ("VENTriloquist", "VENTi-sized", "seVENTh", "circumVENT", etc.).

If you view the HTML source, it looks like the letter was meant to be displayed with the line breaks in specific places, but it got mangled somehow. The first few line breaks have been lost altogether, and extra line breaks have been inserted a little over halfway through all of the lines from "Coventry" on, but it looks like there's meant to be exactly one hidden "vent" per line.

I don't know if there's more to it than that; I've tried doing things like lining up the "vent"s, but I haven't gotten anything to fall out. It might be as simple having to let someone know to check a vent at Camp Francis at some future point in the game.

-Projectyl, who's still trying to figure out that @#$%@ other R instrument. Ratchet? Rattle?

what about who the song is by? IOOEA? looks fishy, might just be me.

@Biola: I was thinking that something was not quite right in/on the tree, but can't prove it.

:edit: @Projectyl: could they mean a Vent server? a way to speak to us?

Nixed a quick thought about ratting out someone here(jk/jk), typed a generic "neighbours are intemperate", hit submit and was rewarded with "Thank you for being a Virtu-Volunteer!" on a new blank page. Creepy. And heya and welcome to UF,Projectyl.
