@ a_p_d: When you ID the musical instruments in the song, you get SXTHWRDFCHTRCK, with no vowels. IOOEAA are the missing vowels you have to add to get SIXTH WORD OF EACH TRACK. (Presumably Xander couldn't get his hands on accordions, ocarinas, etc. Smile)

that VENT thing is suspicious... it was there before today though (as per a google cache from sept 29th).
Could go either way - whoever added that one may have cut and pasted from a source that messes with new lines... but certainly some of those -vent- words really do stand out...

The Book

I don't know if any of you have actually read Rob Bell's "Jesus Wants to Save Chrsitians" but you should. Anyway, the book and this game are clearly related. The code to unlock fruitofthegarden.com came from the cover of this book.

At any rate, knowing this I began wondering if there were more clues in the book. As I read the book, I noticed something weird that I didn't really wonder about until now. The book is full of endnotes - like all of Rob Bell's books. However, every single chapter has one extra endnote in the back of the book that seem unrelated to the rest of the chapter. I compiled them all, all of which are biblical references. Here is the text of the first extra endnote:

Introduction to the Introduction - Matthew 6:1-2
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' in front of others, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

A couple of things jumped out at me. First of all the trumpets. But secondly, the "acts of righteousness". On the CoV page there is a place to report someone in "an intemperate act."

Any one think this is a possible clue?

Not sure if you've read through the whole thread Biola, but yeah it's pretty clear this is for Rob and Dan' book of that name. Haven't read it, but I'm keeping an eye open for it Smile

Anyway, speaking of notes... 'Persona' in IRC mentioned that there are organ notes at the end of Grace's video on temperance...

roughly, I listened to them and tried to match them to notes (I'm at work, so don't my guitar and had to resort to an onlie tuner Razz) - but I think the notes are actually F A C A D E Laughing
good work Xander!

Biola - describe "endnote". Not sure what you mean by that. And how many chapters are there?

An endnote is basically like a footnote, except that they are all at the end of the book. So he references something, a little number sends you to the back of the book to read more about what he is referencing.

There is an Introduction to the Introduction, an Introduction, 6 chapters, and an Epilogue. So depending on how you count that, there could be as many as 9. But each one has one extra note.

Some of them are really strange, for example from the Epilogue the extra note sends you to Song of Solomon 5:11 which says:

"His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven."

Does the Song of Solomon line refer to Xander himself?

can you quote all the endnotes for us?

on a another note *ducks* I've been looking at Tabitha's letter, with all the VENTs. Almost every sentence has a vent in it - the ones that don't almost seem like word breaks... So I split it out by sentence to see if there's a pattern. Haven't found anything yet, but here's what I've got...

@ Projectyl: thx missed that!

Great find Biola and Bruce!
I have a small problem, I can't see the original posts anymore on The Garden Wall, only the replies. I tried to use the toggle link, but it didn't work... anyone else having this issue?

:edit: ...nm works in firefox, not ie...

(I still still think there is a thing to the vent thing. The program is called Ventrilo... maybe I'll poke around for a server...)

Just wanted to say hi, and that I'll be joining in with this hopefully. Unfortunately you guys were way too quick and had solved everything before I even had a chance to look at the CoV update today!!
Nothing of interest other than that to report, just felt I should join in more, as my last ARG was Perplexcity and mainly I lurked. Hopefully this time I can have more input.

Actually I do have one question - the FB group I presumed would have fallen under TINAG? I know people are posting on there, but should that not be treated as part of CoV - or am I just being a bit AR?

greetings worthy_m!

unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) we can't control what happens outside the forums, so really it's up to the PMs as to how they react to and treat players' interactions in places like Facebook. It's pretty much guaranteed there will be people who treat it as a game, even revealing potentially secret information to in-game rivals unknowingly... *shrug* the PMs will treat it as they see fit for a good game since ultimately they have the last say in game progress...

we could, perhaps, counter OOG comments by other players by insisting stuff is real and denouncing secret information Razz but people might get confused and not like that, hehe

Heya--Perplexcity(end of Third Power wave) was my very first one and I mega-mainly lurked Laughing Mostly joined the FB CoV to make
pious comments and suck up to Savannah bigtime so I'm not sure how to post there now with all the "game" chat atm. Dunno

The Facebook group was created by a solver, not one of the puppeteers. There are no actual puppeteers posting to the group. It is not part of the in-game script. (I have had this confirmed.)

Ms. Merks chose to join the group; whether she chooses to act on anything she sees there is up to her, of course, but she (or, you know, the person portraying her) is not really someone in the know. It's no different than if the person portraying her chose to post at fotg.com or here; would we dismantle those threads if that happened?

well, the problem is tht regardless of whether it's an "official" forum or not, it's still public, in an area we know she's been visiting, so technically, the oog comments are 'visible' to her...
ultimately, whether she made the group or not (didn't think she did), it's up to the PMs to decide how to treat that kind of secret-revealing, wall-breaking discussion.

Anyway, moving on, I've set up a wiki (surprise) to try to organize all the stuff we've got so far... it's slowly being populated, but it's here

Endnotes

Lila responded to the endnotes idea over at FOTG. She says she is reading the book and just noticed that, asking what it means? I think there's something to this. Anyway, here are all the "extra" endnotes from the book.

Introduction to the Introduction - Matthew 6:1-2 - Endnote #3
"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' in front of others, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Introduction - Ezekiel 5:7 - Endnote #16
"Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: You have been more unruly than the nations around you and have not followed my decrees or kept my laws. You have not even conformed to the standards of the nations around you."

Chapter 1 - Revelation 1:9 - Endnote #63
"I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus."

Chapter 2 - Habakkuk 3:4 - Endnote #52
"His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden."

Chapter 3 - Deuteronomy 4:8-9 - Endnote #50

"And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them."

Chapter 4 - Romans 2:3-4 - Endnote #57

"So when you, a mere human, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?"

Chapter 5 - Exodus 4:3 - Endnote #44

"The LORD said, 'Throw it on the ground.' Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it."

Chapter 6 - Ecclesiastes 10:3 - Endnote #30

"Even as fools walk along the road, they lack sense and show everyone how stupid they are."

Epilogue - Song of Solomon 5:11 - Endnote #11

"His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven."
