What do you think of this idea for the Cloverfield sequel?

Alright, now think about this for a second. Cloverfield revolved around a deep-sea creature supposedly breaking free from a Tagruato oil tanker, right off the coast of Manhattan, beheading the Statue of Liberty and then rampaging through the city diagnosed with separation anxiety because it was in a foreign environment. And at the end of the movie, Rob and Beth profess there love and supposedly Lily is the only survivor because we don't necessarily see what happens to her as she escapes with some other military personal via military helicopter right out of Manhattan.

What if, and I'll try and be as in-depth with this idea as possible, what if the follow-up to Cloverfield, was a fictional documentary detailing the family, friends and military personals' accounts on what happened in Cloverfield?

It could have exclusive footage of the monster attacking Manhattan, some investigative work on Tagruato and Slusho! and the people who were personally involved with the monster's attack. Also, a lot like in the 9/11 documentaries, there could be a brief memorial service/remembrance. The only difference is that with Cloverfield, the situation was different. They'd be remembering the acts of the military personal, police and all of the authorities and "heroes" who helped clear out the city before the inevitable "hammerhead" protocol.

And since Cloverfield is based on a fictional account, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves could do anything with the sequel/documentary. But since he's most likely going to cast the original cast, I don't know, this idea may not even come into fruition. But it's a good idea, I think.

If not, it could probably be better suited for the "bonus content/special features".

I going to have to disagree with you on this one. This would be one of the worst ways they could bring about a sequel. Thereld be no new plot line...itld be a fictional documentary on something that never happened, without actullay acomplishing anything. If i as a cloverfield fan would not go to the thearters to see this style of movie as a sequel, then you gotta figure the general populous wont see it either. Creative idea, but one the would absoleutely fail miserably if put to use...

Lol, if not a sequel to Cloverfield then I guess it'd probably suffice as a "straight to DVD" feature. It'd probably be one of those things that people get tired of seeing because of the franchise being milked. In this case, Cloverfield would probably end up being a trilogy, if not a sequel. Yeah, I guess as creative as this idea may be, it just probably wouldn't work out in terms of the target demographic for monster films.

Since the Blu-Ray DVD special investigation states that aerial news coverage of the Cloverfield event was ended for safety at 3:30 AM; how about a first person perspective on the ground from a news crew thats caught in the HammerDown (And survives). It would conceivably be less shaky than the original if the premise it was shot by a stable shoulder mounted camera (think an episode of Cops) but also shed light as they receive info from their parent news organization regarding Tagruato and their involvement.

That's an interesting idea, actually. And they could have a sort of "Epilogue" where they wrap all of the events together, kind of like how in Saw III, Jigsaw wrapped together all of the events that lead up from the original to the sequel(s). But I'm guessing for Cloverfield, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves would have a lot of material from the Cloverfield ARG to sort out if they were going for that route on the "surprising" sequel.

I would like a fake documentary, but it would have to be a continuation of the previous story, for me that is.
