"Tomorrow's Talk" -- time travel?

Hi everybody!

I cannot believe that I've gotten sucked into this (via Slashdot). The whole thing creeps me out -- the mushing between reality and fiction.

Anyway, I googled "Tomorrow's Talk" and besides the usual links to the TT production studios site, this is the top link:

http://www-pnp.physics.ox.ac.uk/SF/misc/time-travel-02.html

What do you guys think? Could it be connected to this?

I doubt there's a connection, I think it's more of a coincidence.

But on the other hand, WELCOME to the world of Alternate Reality Games.

This game is still getting started, so you still have time to jump in and follow the story.

It's a ton of fun figuring out puzzles and uncovering the story, whether alone or as part of a group.

Explore, speculate, discover, and have fun.

And if you want to experience the true potential of an ARG, try calling Tomorrow's Talk Studios!

A possible connection...

It is the last sentences of this page's weird essay (apparently a how-to about writing a time travel story) that got me thinking of a possible connection with Urban Hunt, and why I brought this up here to this message board:

Quote:
Could one fix up all one's past misfortunes and lead the perfect life? Oddly, this always seems to lead to one being the instrument of one's own misfortune.

How would you recognise other Time Travellers without alerting everyone else?

I'll gladly tell you more about any of the stories I've mentioned (and could bore you with many more), but it's your turn now.

I sent an email to the author of this time travel page...

Here's what I just emailed:

Quote:
Tim,

I came across your essay from two years ago where you discussed the formula (how-to?) for creating a time travel story. I have been dabbling into fiction writing concerning this subject, so I searched the Web to explore other ideas into this matter.

Under your listing of "mechanisms" needed to travel back in time, I noticed that one was left out -- though perhaps you did so because it doesn't have a strong scientific basis: The idea of imagining or projecting oneself back in time. Mind over matter, so to speak. Like in the movie "Somewhere In Time" which starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Do you have any thoughts about this idea? In the movie "Somewhere In Time", Reeve's character used self-hypnosis to send himself back in time. What about a device that could do this to a person -- maybe "projecting" their conscious, sub-conscious, or "dream state" back in time, or to another dimension/reality?

So, here's my theory, everyone...

The Dream Projector is a time travel device.

It was originally intended as a theraputic way to help cure the mentally ill, by sending their consciousness back to a period in their lives to help them resolve personal issues. But the project went horribly wrong.

I admit that I am new to this so I haven't read up on every detail, but could this theory jibe with what has been found thus far?

And furthermore...

And furthermore, has anybody theorized WHY the TV show production company is called "Tomorrow's Talk" anyway?

Question

Well, I definitely gotta register a username now. Smile

Hope to hear what others here think, and I certainly welcome others to check out my theory. This whole thing is kinda wigging me out now. Laughing

Well, they say it's because they produce the shows "that everybody will be talking about tomorrow". As in, the shows will be popular water-cooler conversation, which i think fits the reality genre very well.

I guess there could be ulterior motives for the name, but so far, their rationale seems acceptable to me...

Hey all - been out of the loop for a few days.

Have my own thjeory about what "TT" could stand for....I have a friend who works in the part of Brooklyn that TT gives for a contact address. I had him check the joint out, and without giving too much info from behind the curtain, let me just say the managing company's name for that building also has the intials "TT".

I could go futher, but i don't think it would serve much "in-game" purpose.

email reply I got

Hello all. I'm the one who originally started this thread. I received an email reply from the webmaster of the abovementioned web page:

You are right. As a "fantasy" mechanism, I guess I'd class it under the "we
can't be bothered to try to convince you so just let us get on with the
story" method, which has a long and respected tradition in speculative
fiction. Twain's "A Yankee in King Arthur's Court" is another example.

Maybe "Somewhere In Time" tried to explain it a little better, but I can't
remember the film very well. (I do remember it as being quite enjoyable and
a fairly touching romance.)

I have no idea what to make of this. He sounds legit (not part of this game) but maybe there is something here -- the door appears to be left open with his last comment about the movie "Somewhere In Time".

/me is strongly requesting 'Guest' registers or at least identifies him/herself in posting!!!

Regardless, nice followup to your SPEC. Still not sure if that site is in-game (most likely out-of-game) but interesting background information. There have been other ARGs that used time travel or similar ideas...go back in time and fix the wrongs (e.g. I played both ACHERON & CTW). I hope UH will be a little different.
