FOREGONE, without its beginning and conclusion, is OREGON. "Before you venture into dark territory" may refer to the Oregon Trail.

I don't think we have a category that fits OREGON, so perhaps the one we're missing is STATES? Anyone care to try to backsolve DI2 to fit that?

Just wanted to point out another entry point to the game. I don't believe there are other clues there, but maybe someone could find them. This is an article interviewing Rob Bell about the book JWTSC. In it are a series of bold letters which spell out "email rob at nooma dot com."

I haven't really tried that hard yet, but it appears that there are several State abbreviations within the letters from beyond the gate. AR, MA, CO, OK, of course North Carolina and Florida are mentioned. I'm sure there are more than what I listed.

CoV Headquarters is in Kansas City where they say the Oregon Trail started.

From Our Ministries page
Quote:
National Headquarters: Kansas City, Missouri
We chose to put our national headquarters in Kansas City for obvious reasons. Not only is it the Barbeque Capital of the World, but it is also considered America's Crossroads. Here, you'll find the beginning of all three paths our ancestors used to expand westward into God's Country: the Oregon Trail, the California Trail, and the Santa Fe Trail.

The Oregon Trail ends in Oregon City, Oregon. Also, Camp Francis is noted to be in the Pacific Northwest. Has anyone seen a more specific location? Maybe we could email someone from CoV and ask?

On the Our Ministries page it says " Camp Francis: Spokane, Washington"

Belle has been in ctc with CoV's Anna Gimble. She got a reply HERE if you want to try re Camp Francis also.

Here's something from the Weekly Inspiration that's interesting, but may or may not be a coincidence:

rIse -> rOse, a flower
Mouse -> Louse, an insect
bArn -> bErn, a capital
Sip -> Zip, a code

Does anyone see one that'd fit "money"?

I suppose "beck" could be "buck" or "hound" could become "pound"?

I don't see a letter-change on a state, though. What else could OREGON belong to? Trails? Universities? Something else?

I am missing too many
things

i just can not get the whole musical references. i am not that music smart.
I was going to try to educate myself. and chase a theory that i woke up with.

Quote:
"there maybe a kloo in the fourteen songs that were re-written"

so i began to compile the lyric list of the songs and the originals.
interesting thing though
Quote:
COME ON
"Run On" rewritten to eliminate references to specific kinds of sinners
is linked to a moby song "Afterlife" not "Run On" and the lyrics in "Run On" are referencing sins like the notes say. Now what is in there in the moby song we should see?

The song they link to IS Run On; it's just the title that's wrong.

Maybe it's intentional, maybe it's not; lyrics sites are notorious for that sort of thing.

Other one letter changes that could work:
parts -> Paris, another capital
also mouse -> morse, another code (although mouse->louse has been suggested).

The overlap in one word suggests to me that this is not exactly right as I wouldn't have this kind of ambiguity in a puzzle.

I'm also stuck on aria -> asia but that doesn't fit an existing category.

Anyway, let's say it is the changed letters thing; I'd guess the message is in the original or changed letters. Going through the inspiration in order with rise, mouse (2 choices), barn, beck, parts, hound, sip, the letters I have are:

(original): I(M/U)AUTHS
(changed): O(L/R)EUIPZ

Obviously we still have several missing as I'd expect all the unusual phrases to have at least one changed word and things like inclement weather and angelic aria are currently untapped.

Wrong song lyrics

but the moby song is not a religious song but there is a religious song titled Run On that does speak of specific sins

Looks like we now have a video from the free Xander on the Garden Wall area of Fruit of the Garden.

http://www.fruitofthegarden.com/TheGardenWall/

There's also a text message reference from Xander in the message board.

Looks like Part 1 is complete!

Now when is Part 2??!?! I've hit refresh all day. Smile

I think the right history is that there is a folk song, "God's Gonna Cut You Down", that is sometimes called "Run On". It has been performed by several artists, including Elvis (as Run On), and Johnny Cash (as God's Gonna Cut You Down), and one of the versions from the 40's was sampled in the Moby song "Run On" on Play. The lyrics are generally always the same, but even I cannot find a good site with the original folk song without a reference to elvis or another popular artist playing the song.

I think this is how the lyrics should match up, given rhythm and syllable counts:

Rewritten:
Quote:
You're going to tell that gospel choir
Tell them sing it higher
Sing the story of the glory that we desire
Tell them God almighty has a joyful sound
Come on to the right side
Come on to the right side
Let me tell you God almighty has a joyful sound

Original (as sampled):
Quote:
Go tell that long tongued liar, oh well well
Go tell that midnight rider, oh well well
Tell the gambler, rambler, back-biter
Tell them God almighty gonna cut them down
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Let me tell you God almighty gonna cut you down

[/quote]
