Hmm

That's happening for me too.

Not too impressed by this so far. The chat is really hard work, and the flickr thing was pretty stupid too. Surely you should need to input the URL of the image, rather than the general flickr page?!

You have to wait for a while. Keep in mind that he is walking around a massive area and looking around for help.

You're probably not to the point where he's asking for a direction yet. Did he find the woman and ask you to help identify what's wrong with her?

He's getting firewood at the moment apparently, and he sent a video about it.
The phone is off though, so I suppose I'll have to wait.

can't figure out what to say.

Hi all,

I have no idea how to help Joseph with his current problem.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The camp was on fire, and I directed him to the first aid hut. But now his feet are burned and he doesn't understand any of my instructions. I tell him to get a "sterile wound dressing" (mentioned on the red cross site) and he says "I don't have any".

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I'm also having the exact same problem. I have tried so many things too, from
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the sterile wound dressing to keeping it cold under running water and finding some dressing substitute - like a plastic bag that Alan mentions in his blog: http://alanhackston.blogspot.com/2008/09/simple-advice-for-burn-victims-goes.html

Anyway, if you get further with this, let us know!
Smile

Admin building

Is any one else looking for the admin building? The only information Joseph has given me so far is that it has a white roof. I can only think that he needs to get above the roof lines to see this but he doesn't understand me.

(I am a total beginner to these sort of games so please excuse me if it is an obvious answer)

For the burns, type this:

1. Cool the burn as quickly as possible by placing the affected area under cold running water for at least ten minutes.

2. Cover the injury using a sterile dressing such as a clean non fluffy cloth or kitchen film, and seek medical advice. Dial 999 (or 112) in severe cases.

3. Raise the limb to reduce swelling.

Nope, doesn't work. He says that he doesn't have any.

Man, I am so tired of seeing "What are you on about?" and "Sorry, I don't quite understand what you're saying."

I eventually got him to do something about his feet by saying,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you have to pour water over the burn, then protect it with a non-fluffy cloth

A sort of "walkthrough." Again, spoilers for those trying to find the right path on their own.
Quote:
Joseph: I asked people where the admin hut is. They said it has a white roof.
Joseph: I will try and find more information.
Joseph: Night is coming, it is getting cold. I am going to the East gate. I have to leave the camp for firewood. There are men with guns out there. I might need your help.
Joseph: > You have an incoming video message> Powered by QuantumSat
Joseph: It is OK. I got back to camp with some wood. I am heading back to the hut to rest. Still need to find the messenger. Lets speak again in a few hours.
Joseph: Oh, I got another clue about the location of the admin hut. It is just to the east of the south road into the camp it seems.

Joseph: The camp's on fire! Someone has stolen my shoes. Guide me out! I need to get to the first aid hut. Use that detailed map you uploaded earlier. Quick!
Devasa: {You have him follow the yellow waste line to first aid.} Go west.
Joseph: OK...
Joseph: Which way next? {From here he keeps asking for directions, edited out for space saving}
Devasa: South. West. South. West.
Joseph: I'm out of the fire, thanks! My feet got burnt though, I will ask here for help.

Joseph: The first aid hut is full. Alan would know how to treat burns! Please help me.
Devasa: You have to pour water over the burn, then protect it with a non-fluffy cloth. {Thanks to an unnamed Guest}
Joseph: Thank you so much, my feet are much better now and more good news... someone has just given me another clue as to where the messenger is. The admin hut is in a clearing with another small blue roofed building! You should be able to see where it is now, which direction should I go in?
Devasa: South.
Joseph: I can see it thanks! I am on my way!

Joseph: I found the messenger! He had a message from my mum. She's safe and in the UK. Thank you so much!!
Joseph: > You have an incoming video message > Powered by QuantumSat
Joseph: Hi Alan here!
I've found Joseph again and got my phone back. Joseph hasn't stopped talking about you helping him find the messenger. Just wanted to say a personal thanks.
I've gotten to know Joseph in the short time I've been here and he's a great kid. There's just so many others with the same story.
I'm beginning to realise just how important the International tracing and message services the Red Cross offer are.
Anyway, signing off now. Bye.
{Afternote:}Well done for completing the game and thanks for helping Joseph find the Red Cross messenger.
While this was just a story, the Red Cross really does help people around the world just like Joseph get in touch with their family. You can help, too.

So...it's over. A little disappointing as ARGs go. It had an interesting interface but I really wouldn't term this an ARG; there was really no community effort at all.

Now what?

Yesterday I got the email that he had arrived at Hopetown (12 days after I signed up). I got his GPS working and the map. When I tell him what I see on the map I get the answer Message couldn't be delivered. Recipients phone may be off. It's been like that since yesterday. The dot indicating his position hasn't moved at all since then either. I registered with another email today and instantly got to go to the Alertnet web page but again, after getting the GPS and map to work his phone is off. Is this something that happens to everyone? Gets a bit boring to only be able to play for 5 min... Sad
