Also, over at the Black Mariah blog, I've been asking 'the king', B, if there's anything we can do to help. He said we should plead with Finn and reason with Ross. Also, Ally should be back with Finn, so maybe we can start talking with them about what we can do to help J.A.

I see that Natas has tried drilling him for info, and it didn't do much good. Still, I think if we keep on him, he'd be an asset. He seems willing to help, albeit a bit short with what he considers silly questions.

Sure, I can take this on, no problem.

This is what I sent Seth:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
My friends who are working on this with me say you are a double agent and that you have some information to tell your brother. What is this information? I want to help you undermine Steven, so you can trust me to keep this information a secret.

Now to await a reply. Wink

OK, just for clarification to make sure I understand: is Finn Seth's brother or is J.A. Seth's bro? This story is so confusing... Confused

BTW: I still haven't gotten a response from my email. I'll let you know when I do.

I wasn't prodding her/him, whoever IG to try to figure anything out. I was being literal. Why in the world, with no background on any of these people. or no other info, would I care about a guitar picture with a B on it or some girl name Black Mariah died.

Maybe if there were a little more background information, I could give a care, but alas, I don't. Good luck with this, guys.

You know what's funny, the "other" blog we found on accident..... I have more fun and entertainment reading and corresponding with that one than I do this game here. Go figure.

major fail to the PM's.

I fully understand natas; I myself have been trying to follow this thread with some marginal interest but now realize that I just don't care either.

A good "story" lets you in on at least some of what is happening, and at the moment, I really don't have any idea WHAT is happening.

If the PMs are paying any attention to this thread, perhaps it would help if you had one centralized page that explained a little of the game's backround info. IE why are we supposed to care what's happening to the characters / what is the world that we're supposed to be immersed in?

I too am abandoning this game until it shows a little more potential.

I hate to say it, but I agree with Natas and Degravedi. I think the potential is there, certainly. But what they've done here is cast a line without putting a hook on it, and they're not going to reel anyone in without that. I'll still be watching the thread, but for now, I'm dialing back my involvement.

Yeah, I think I will start moving toward the exit with you guys. There's just too many other games that *are* working to stick with this one that isn't. Anyone who wants to continue contacting Finn et. al., can do so, but unless/until I get a response to my previous email, I'm gone. When/if I get a response, I'll post it for all to see. I'll see you guys in another thread when I find one that catches my fancy! Wink

Yeah, I guess we got our point across... Wink

Well, it's about time somebody made an attempt to tell us why we should care about these folks, and I'm glad they have. But, the story and the characters still don't intrigue me enough to want to follow along with the narrative and interact with their world.

Honestly, it isn't because the story *itself* isn't interesting; on the contrary, I actually find the nugget of a story there to be perfect for some really nice plot twists and turns. I think the problem here is that the characters don't seem sufficiently real to care about them.

As far as characters go, they are like actors being paraded about on a propless stage, while you watch the proceedings from a sound-proof room with a pinhole-size opening in the wall. Oh sure, you can see them moving about; sometimes you can even read their lips and make out a few words here and there. But you have no idea what they sound like, you can't get a glimpse of their personality, and you certainly won't miss them when they are gone.

Where are the remnants of the lives these people lived before they became faceless rebels and insane cult leaders? Where are the ties that bind these people to the world in which they live? Where are we in relation to that world? Where are the blogs and websites and places and people they knew and loved before being purged of all personality, and replaced with cardboard cutouts who talk but never really say anything? If only we could see the history of their personal lives in the full light of day, we could understand their motivations and the driving force behind their existence.

These are the makings of a successful story, ARG or otherwise. Without these things, no one cares who lives, who dies, who succeeds, or who fails. And we certainly won't stick around to see the conclusion.

Since it appears that the PMs are reading our comments, I will leave them with this word of advice:

As biting as this criticism is, I encourage you to continue making ARGs, learning from your mistakes and applying that knowledge to create new experiences that will better engage your players in the world you have so thoughtfully created. I, and everyone here, knows that you can do it, though it is surely hard. Just remember this: we love this thing called an ARG or we wouldn't be here, and we will always be ready to tackle a new story any day you choose to show us one. So make us proud; go out there and do just that. Wink

 The Response
I have Akshun

i sent an e-mail trying to see exactly whether or not my theory about the card game "mastamajia" this is the response...

Everyone is only participating to lose?
Considering the way we're fighting our battles, I'd say so.
And Black Mariah is certainly the key to many things.
For instance, you might want to ask Allison about what happened to Jason.

I Would be more than happy & understanding iF you choose not to return this email With an anWser. But, my curiosity, perhaps has gotten the better oF me. There is this game "Masta Majia" or "Black Mariah" in Which everyone is actually only participating to lose. does "our" Maria share anything in common With a card game From Finnland (question)

Alright, I'm just sticking my head in now, and I know I'm reviving a dead topic, but if we can get a few people on this ARG I'm sure we can sail it through to the end, as to me it sounds pretty interesting. So, if anyone wants to do this, and if the PM's are still willing to run the ARG (contact me at comrade.christohSPLATgmail.com if you are) then we can do this.

So who's with me?
