just a tip and reminder for everyone - we can stay from spoilers unless what 'spoilered' is specific answers or solves to puzzles or tv/movie plot twists and whatnot that even a quick glance at the text could reveal something people don't want to read...

theories/speculation/publically available information (especially if already posted) is just tedious to read in spoiler form. In those cases, if you really feel the need to, a simple spoiler warning would be sufficient...

keep the spoiler tag for hard-core spoilers, tnx Smile just something we try to encourage around here

Reply from 39 clues

Ok - sorry about that thebruce. I had them as spoilers in case folks wanted to figure out the combos on their own (not to say that any of mine are right... they might not be).

As an FYI to everyone I got a reply today from 39 Clues help. Let me summerize:

Frist, I got the same dates as those already posted (about how inbox messages 23 and 24 are due this week, along with the first mission, and the final inbox messsage 25 on Friday). So just a conformation on that.

Second, I can also confirm that 39 Clues had "some problems with the routing of the mail", and they led me to believe that I should not expect a reply to the reqests for cards I sent earlier. On a posiitve note, I was given some card codes that I would have recieved if I did get them back (for those keeping track, I noticed they all started with the number 6). I was told there is going to be no special stuff in these return mailings, just codes (ie no special card, no fancy letterhead, etc). So if you are not interested in the codes, I would skip the SASE. I guess that this problem is over now though, and as I understand it any future reqeusts sent in via the mail will be honored. Moral of the story, if you have sent in a reqeust for codes (book or card packs) then you might want to e-mail 39 Clues help with the date you sent them asking them when you might expect your reply.

Lastly (and probably most importantly), I have some info on 400+ codes. I think it best to simply cut and paste from the e-mail so I don't miscommunicate:

Quote:
As for the cards numbered 400-416, there are many different types. Some are available physically through our partners as well as Scholastic Book Clubs and Book Fairs. Not all have yet been released, and many are only available in certain countries. In the United States the following stores offer individual cards for free, usually with the purchase of a 39 Clues product: Borders, Walmart, Hastings, Meijer and the IndieBound independent bookstores. We cannot guarantee that all individual stores will have the cards or still have stock left, so be sure to call ahead.

The cards numbered 400-416 are intended for promotional use and will never be required to collect The 39 Clues.

I think the key pieces of info in that are:
  • Not all the 400+ cards/codes have been released
  • SOME are available physically (read: some might just be virtual)
  • (at least in the US) the following is a list of stores that might have 400+ cards are:
    • Borders (we have physically)
    • Walmart (we have just the number)
    • Hastings (we have physically)
    • Meijer (nothing is known yet... but still nothing at the Meijers I visited)
    • IndieBound independent bookstores (we have the card)

  • cards numbered 400-416 will never be required to collect The 39 Clues

It would be really helpful if we had the help of someone in the UK who could confirm a few of the UK stores/cards for us.

In closing... one question for everyone. How are folks storing their cards? Since these are not normal sized trading cards they don't fit in standard "9 to a page" plastic sheets or boxes designed to hold trading cards. Are folks just keeping them in a stack on a desk or something?

Thanks
-TheRealPip

PS - anyone willing to part with card #60 (Xray), I would trade for it (I have a stack of trades which include 405 -printed as #2- and 407). Also, I don't care if the card has been activated or not (it would be nice if it wasn't, but if it means you would trade it, I would take a "used" one as I am more interested in completing the physical set vs getting them online).

NP... the combinations thing is still entirely speculation though at this point, no? So we an guess all we want at what 'might' be a combination, but nothing's really been solved yet at all...

as for the 400+ cards, given that new set of info, I'm going to keep that list sorted by entry codes, and show what happens virtually (including #), whether there's a physical card (including #), and where it was found... basically what's there now Smile

CARD SWAP/FAMILY BRANCHES

Loranna - I have doubles of cards 11, 26, 39, 40, 47 and 68 and need 13 and 27. Please e-mail me if you'd like to swap for 2 of mine - globetrotter_lim AT hotmail.com

Tyty - I've got 40, 56 and 63 if you still need them, and I'd like to swap for 8, 62 and 13 or 14. E-mail at the above address if you'd still like to change.

Fantastic find on the Family Tree! Makes sense that Amy is Ekat - she does wear Grace's dragon necklace. Speaking of Grace, not only does she have the dragon necklace, but the carpet in her library was covered with dragons leading to the second entrance. I think she could be Ekat too.

Anyone wonder about Nellie? She is wearing a snake through her nose...could she be Lucian? An "unknown" member of the family?

Trades And Money

Nijntje I sent you a trade by Email The subject was something like, "Trade: This is Henry".

Quote:
Also the money cards might be used in order to be able to buy more information or hints to the clues.

Any Other thoughts?

Loranna ya, I think that would be cool if that was what the money cards are for.

where to send SASEs

Check out this URL:

http://www.the39clues.com/info/rules

Then find the section for the country you are in, and move to the section called "You Do Not Have to Buy Anything to Enter or Participate in the Contest". You can also search the page for "The 39 Clues Mail-In Entry" (without the quotes).

Hope this helps.

mailing cards

Just a question. When you guys trade cards, how do you mail them to each other. Just in a first-class regular envelope? Or do you add some protection?

so if your in the usa you send the sase to:

{ The 39 Clues Card Pack Mail In Entry for Books #1, #2 and #3, Scholastic Inc, 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012 }

and then inside of the evelope you also include a stamped letter with your address on it so that they dont have to pay for postage?

do i include a letter inside also saying my email address and username inside??

.

I am in the US. When I traded some 400+ cards with someone in Aulstrailia, I put mine in one of those cardboard folders that you by card packs in (I had a few to spare), and put that in a bubble mailer. The guy in Aulstrailia said my cards arrived fine. I probably over did it, but since it was a trans-contanental mailing I didn't want to take the chance. On the flipside, he just put the cards he sent me in an regular mail envelope and they arrived bent (but not too bad). What I would recomend for most people is to re-enforce it with a piece of cardboard (part of a card pack folder would be good, or a remnent of a cardboard box would also work) and mail it in a regular business envelope. That should probably be ok for a few cards.

That address looks right for the code for the 6 cards from Book 1 (there is a seperate one for the card packs), however you can only specify 1 book (and only book 1 currently since 2 and 3 are not out yet... so you might just want to delete the #2 and #3). And also correct about the stamped letter (there is a state or two that you don't have to stamp the letter... but I would do it just in case... it is only 40 something cents after all). I also included a short letter with my user name, email, and a short "thank you" note. I just folded the SASE in thirds and wrapped it around my short note. I put my return address on the SASE too (so the "to" and "from" were both my address).

Keep in mind, I didn't actually get anything back due to the mix up at 39 Clues, but that is what I did.

ok thank you but no i cant remove the 2 and 3 because that is the address for the 16 card codes that you can also get so i just need to put a stamp on both of the envelopes and then seal the envelope around the sase and letter

i just put my address on the TO part of the envelope not the FROM
