So perhaps it doesn't mean exactally what "brainwashing" means in English. If anyone has read 1984, Goldstein talks about a Chinese phrase that literally translates as "Death Worship", which would suggest a religious worship of death, but the meaning actually implied by the phrase was more along the lines of "Obliteration of the Self", implying a mental breakdown of the ego in order to align oneself with a totalitarian personality cult. My point is that, oftentimes with translations, if the writer is a native speaker, the idiomatic expression may have a (slightly or completely) different significance in the original and translated languages. Just something to keep in mind if we are going to be dealing with a lot of translations.

Something else of note is that the spot that ad is in is the same one the Moscow Fashion Week ad was in. Russia and China are both Communist countries... significant?

Well, one out of two ain't bad. Even when Russia was communist it had roughly the same relation to Maoist Communism as Swedish capitalism has to the U.S. breed. Not a lot. So no, their common political system (non-existent) probably isn't relevant to the ad placement.

Your concern over translation issues are quite valid, however. I will say that IF this is a XIII game that translations have been pretty accurate in the past, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't check with native speakers...

That's a very good idea, but if you do a google search with the characters and then translate the pages, they all have content pertaining to what we would consider "brainwashing." Examples: link, link.

So, I guess brainwashing sort of makes sense anyway. It's been theorized to cause various psychoses, and the swirly curves on top of their heads certainly do remind me hypnosis wheels.

It's now completely black and shows some 'interface'. But you can't really type anything in. It just sais Interlink Standby_

Guess we'll have to wait the full next 6 days. °sigh° Doesn't even look like an ARG to me. Rather some kind of "anouncement" for something/someone.
