I've got a lot of sick days saved up. If it looks like a meaningful live event, I just might take one. Hopefully we'll get more clues to what will be happening.

go team Raleigh!

If we can find out a little more info like where in the city it'll be, I can take Monday afternoon off work.

I noticed that list mentioned Los Angeles....

Damn! I was in a job interview and the owner of the company saw that going up and was like "What's that? Just a monster and a date? Must be a movie." And they got in a discussion about what movie it could be since we work in the biz. Unfortunately, I couldn't see it from where I sat. So when PS3fanboy posted it, I was like Crap! So it went up on Friday at around 3:30pm Pacific.

Also, have any more of these gone up in any other cities on the list? Maybe I should go check it out for clues.

At any rate, obviously, I've got Los Angeles covered.

I hate to nitpick, but the date should be October in the original post. It kind of threw me off before I visited the site.

Dammit all.

I would so go to Pittsburgh if I didn't need new tires on my car and (probably) wouldn't be able to afford the gas.

Dammit dammit dammit.

I'll think it over, haha. It depends on how sweet the prizes start to look.

I'm so mad there isn't a closer place to where I am, so now I have to decide between Minneapolis and Chicago if I'm going to go.

Oh well, I just want more codes to decipher!

I'm in the same boat. I'd drive downtown if I had the gas, could get there in time, and knew what, if anything, I was looking for. I might just stay home and hope this is some online event.

In the event that this has nothing to with a live event and everything to do with the order of the cities here's the fax in all its glory. After all, there's no indication of where the "meet" is supposed to be or I might actually be there (with the right incentive...Might. Edit: Meant that I might actually drive the 300 miles.)
Quote:
Atlanta, Georgia
Austin, Texas
Boston, Massachusetts
Chicago, Illinois
Denver, Colorado
El Paso, Texas
Kansas City, Missouri
Los Angeles, California
Miami, Florida
Minneapolis, Minnesota
New York, New York
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Phoenix, Arizona
Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Raleigh, North Carolina
Salt Lake City, Utah
San Francisco, California
Seattle, Washington
Tampa, Florida
Washington, DC

The only thing I can say from (unfortunately) prior experience is that this does indeed seem like a list of meeting places. If only 42E would take a tally of where players are playing from out of their records (IE from where the most people have "signed up" from in their games), perhaps the list would be better distributed. I know they've targeted the highest population regions, but what if no one is paying attention in those areas...

Especially after such a long absence.

I agree that that would make the most sense, but let's be honest, that's a lot of work.

This is basically their safest bet.

Though it would have been nice if they had included a city something like... say... Toronto. Not only because it's much closer to me than all the rest of the cities, but it gets the Canadians involved, too.

Though, as someone noted, it could have a lot to do with in-game locations (in which case, maybe there's something here for us to decipher?)

So, they could be meeting places, game locations, or advertisement locations. In case of the latter, EGMBryan on the MyRes forums hinted that there is an ad similar to the L.A. one in New York, which is also on the list. Haven't found any pics yet though.

Maybe the full building ads are supposed to be the sites of the meetings?

Previous ARGs have directly involved the sponsors, such as Dark Knight having live events ending with a trailer screening--there were reps from the studio handling the trailer and the theater arrangements. It's quite possible that the sponsor specified the list of cities, or said that they want a distribution across the country in big cities, or even cities their own research indicates the highest bang-for-the-buck in advertising.

I have confidence that 42e knows where their players live, and try their best to offer rewarding experiences to as many people as they can.

I have confidence that 42 would airdrop personal puzzles and live events straight down each individual player's chimney via remote-controlled jetpack if they had it in their means to do so Smile

As much as I lament the fact that my geographic region is rarely targeted for these things, I also understand that with limited resources the best return on investment and impact factor for these things will always come from big cities. If you set something up in NYC, you can be guaranteed that at least a small group of someones will show up, and that others passing by will at least be exposed to what's going on. That's not necessarily the case in Small Town, USA. And return on investment and a large number of people impacted by the ARG is probably what the sponsors want to see.

Yet, Toronto is certainly one of those "big cities" that got no love with this list =( So there're some other factors involved, of course (other than the whole, well it's a whole 'nother country n stuff, thing).

On another note, did anyone else see the Resistance 2 commercial during Fringe last night?
(rather, did anyone else catch Fringe while watching for the Resistance 2 commercial last night? Razz)

That was a very nicely done commercial. Impressed.
