I don't know anyone who's heading there, but to hedge your bets you could probably call the librarian and see if she'll actually look in the book for you before you ask her to hold it. I don't think she'll be too bothered if you say it's for a scavenger hunt. Their number is (319) 398-5123.

crazy lady

Maybe this is nothing, but seeing the pictures from the book reminded me of something I saw at the library earlier. I was sitting at a table by the bookshelf where the book was, and there was a lady sitting behind me talking to herself. This being NYC, I assumed that she was just a schizophrenic or something, nothing unusual there, but as I was reading the messages in those sketches, it sounds an awful lot like things she was saying, stuff like "no, leave me alone" and stuff like that, but then she also kept saying "i'm getting the implant removed" she was practically shouting, and I didn't see a phone or bluetooth headset or anything...

... then again, she may have just been crazy.

I noticed that woman too, but I doubt they'd have stuck somebody in the library literally all day (because how could they know when we were going to work it out?) when the event hasn't even started yet. When I walked by, she said something like "leave me alone, James" and I just kept going and got on the elevator.

I'll compile all the info we have about the Fallen here.

Their code names are Thole, Sweven, Shadow, Wanion, and Pallid.

Their real names are Jerry, Paul, Andrea, Juan, and Garnet. Garnet, however, is not a real name, and could apply to any of the other 4.

Pallid is a teacher, one is a priest in Austin (not Garnet), and Pallid and Juan are friends.

The drop locations (ostensibly used by them) are in Phoenix, Cedar Rapids, St. Louis, San Francisco, and New York.

Based on other code names given out, Pallid is probably Paul and Wanion is probably Juan.

That's all I've got so far.

While I'm not able to go to the event (still walking with a cane) I am following this one. Further to the above post:

here is the link

And a copy of the text for those who don't want to click:

Quote:
OK, yeah, I'm a little more involved in the fight against ASOG than I've ever let on here Smile But now it's time to pull back the curtain and put it all on the line.

You see, I work with lots of cult escapees to help them bring down ASOG. Usually just exchanging information and helping the right people get in touch with each other. But like I said, the shit has hit the fan today, so I'm going to tell you about one way in which I go a little bit beyond that. Here's the deal:

Some top-secret documents, damaging and very important to Addison Sayther, have been hidden in a special dead-drop system. That system was created by a group of ex-cult members which MV calls "The Fallen," who also acquired these documents at great personal cost. A courier I know was supposed to recover these documents from the dead drops.

That courier has has been kidnapped, and is certainly being tortured by the MV. He's supposed to check in with me on a regular schedule, but I haven't heard from him in too long. "The Fallen" all went into deep hiding, and I can't even communicate with them. I have no idea what or where the dead drops are.

So that's why we need you, faithful readers. You have to figure out where these things are. I don't know how. Hopefully, you're better detectives than I am. Hopefully, you're in with the cult and have access to some info that will help you.

Because if you're not, 5 people are gonna die. That may happen anyway. But we cannot let their work, their risk, be for for nothing. We have to find these documents before the MV do. Once you find them, bring them here and we'll shine the light on these things for all the world to see.

God speed, friend

So now we have a kidnapped courier or without the important documents. (but why do they kidnap the courier before he gets the documents? I suppose to force him to reveal the locations ?) And now we have to find these documents so we can save 5 people.

I hope you guys are paying attention, because I am a bit lost.

and, welcome, hasenbraten

The clue from SF (a video!) is being sent to me now, but it being nearly 5 in NY I'm about to head home. I ought to have it hosted for everyone by 7 EDT tonight. I also might have a lead on getting someone to the library in St. Louis, but we still seem to be out of luck for Phoenix. Is there anyone on these forums who lives nearby and might drop in to grab us something?

Phoenix

I have a colleague who is from Phoenix. Lets see if he has any crazy friends left there. Will keep you posted. Please post if anyone else is making an effort there, too.

I've been playing around with the names some more, and I think Nedostup is definitely onto something with the first two names.
(Based on info from http://www.name-meanings.com/)

Paul - small (Latin)
Pallid - Pale, feeble, insipid

Juan - Spanish from John - God is gracious, merciful (Hebrew)
Wanion - curse; vengeance; plague

-----
Other possible combos (since alliteration is out now):

Andrea - courageous (Greek)
Thole - endure without complaining; endure

Jerry - holy (Greek) (Maybe like the Holy Spirit?)
Shadow - something insubstantial or fleeting

Not sold on this one, but it's the only combo left. (And it's probably not anyone's name, anyway).
Garnet - a gem
(Metaphysical properties at http://www.gemstonegifts.com/stones/garnet.htm)
Sweven - a vision; a dream; also, to put to sleep; to kill

Just throwing it out there.

I've been trying to follow this one. Quick question- Where did you find the names for Paul, Andrea, and Jerry? I missed it somehow.

SF clue

Hm.... this video doesn't really have anything further to go on, it's just a guy talking to the camera. Seems more like flavor than substance. Here you go.

It seems that both Brandon and Sayther are after these documents... should we decide who we're going to send them to?

Phoenix!

We got the Phoenix clue! My team member called the library and asked the very helpful librarians to look for it for him, they found it, and they read it over the phone for him.

Quote:
-redacted-

It was on beige high bond paper, typed, and well worn. The very nice librarian got a little freaked out during the "I am the new Christ" part there, so we are very much in the debt of the gracious folks at Phoenix Public Library. Obviously we won't know if there are any weird inconsistencies, spellings, or whatever because this was transcribed by rote. We had the librarian put the page back in the book in case we find someone to actually stop by Phoenix to have a look at it.

Now what, we just have to wait for MrToasty to report back from Cedar Rapids? My team member and I are going to call the St. Louis library to see if we can get something from them, too.

The librarian in St. Louis pulled their only copy, looked through all the pages and in the spine, and didn't find anything. It's possible someone has already picked it up and hasn't reported back, it's possible someone has picked it up and is hoarding it for their own team (boo), and it's also possible we have the wrong library. What do you guys think?

I'm on location (it's in a shopping mall). I've located two of the three copies they have, but haven't found anything yet. I'm having difficulty finding the third copy.
