On the new DI, we have two Bible verses:

Quote:
We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.'

No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.

They're both 116 letters long; my first instinct was to line them up and see what was "common" among them, but that gives the not-too-promising LLOEUO.

Hmm, I think you're on the right track there, but the DI says 'that which is common is not needed', so common letters might need to be discarded? And it seems that only the letters at the start of the passages or only the start of the alphabet are needed.

EDIT: Also, notice that the DI and one of the passages contain the word 'land' and the the other passage 'ground'?

EDIT v2.0: The last sentence, "That which comes early is prized" in a cryptic sense could mean that the start of a word is neccessary (hidden word maybe?)

Removing the letters common between the two in pairs I'm left with this mess:
ACTS: EHINMPSV
DEUT: AGENORVY

Deleting *all* pairs of letters in various ways (forwards, backwards, backwards pairwise then together, from the above, etc.) I get the letters "AGHIMOPRSY". The orders in which the letters came out never spelled anything.

The letters look promising, but anagram tools turned up no one-word anagram, and no promising two-word ones. Playing with it myself, I got "PHYSIOGRAM", which appears on a few pages via Google, but otherwise doesn't seem to be a word.

Removing the duplicates is a bit tedious and open to error, so feel free to check my work.

Another note: The last seven letters of the first quote "(t)he goads" appear together in the other quote as "God as he". Maybe just coincidence since the DI says common stuff is *not* needed.

Two things we should perhaps keep in mind with regards to the DI.

1. Every other DI has been essentially one or two simple manipulations or observations. It seems unlikely that we would have to go to the extent of mapping all the common letters from both verses, excluding them and so forth.

2. This is one of the few DI's that the puzzle constructors didn't write the text (i.e. Bible verses), so it seems far less likely that they would be able to find two verses that not only had the same number of letters but also was then subject to multiple letter removals throughout the entire passage so that a clear message was revealed. To find two such verses would be very arduous, if not impossible, I think.

So, what would be a much simpler interpretation? One that I was considering would be to remove the common letters from the LARGEST word in each verse. In this case we would have PERSECUTE and PROMISED (WHEREVER ties with this, but I took the Earliest of the two, possibly?)

Anyway, removing all the P's E's R's and S's from PERSECUTE, leaves you with CUT. Now I doubt this is the answer, but perhaps we should be thinking more along these lines.

I agree with ToddE about the probable simplicity of how this works. I think it is interesting, as was pointed out above, that one verse has "goads" and one has "God as"; that's the kind of thing you could do a computer search for if you were the puzzle constructor, though I don't see how that actually leads to an answer in this case. But that seems like the kind of level of complexity we should be looking for.

Passionix Response

I decided to follow in others footsteps and email Passionix my questions and straight up ask about the CAS RN for Passionix and here was the response I received:

Quote:
Dear Ed,

Those are very important questions. Passionix has been found to have problems when combined with certain substances. Here's some useful information about that:

Do not swallow Passionix if taking any cannabinoids and all other internal stimulant drugs such as dextroamphetamine, Spanish fly, caffeine, epinephrine, and ritalin.

Passionix does not yet have a CAS RN, but it is a common questions. Looking at this strikes through the heart of any parent. We parents always link our concerns for our children to worries that there is hidden information lurking behind the simplest thing. I know our former director, Dr. Janes, always told me that.

I sincerely hope this answer gives you the information you seek. Remember to look at the Common Questions part of the Passionix website to find more information.

Sincerely,
Douglas Kressig
Sr. Pharmacist

Once again the strike through phrase stands out again as well as the repeated mentioning of "any cannabinoids and all other internal stimulant drugs such as dextroamphetamine, Spanish fly, caffeine, epinephrine, and ritalin". Several other interesting hints in here as well but I haven't had much time with it yet to unravel anything.

Got Something!

OK. I just kept trying things and realized that they were telling use there was hidden information behind a link. As I was rereading the Q&A on Passionix, I moused over the strike-through of Justin Janes and noticed it was a link that takes you to:

http://citizensofvirtue.com/passionix/labreport.aspx

This gives a lab report to work with and a whole series of CAS RNs

Still working on this path...

Ed

Cocaine

In the lab report the circled CAS is related to caffeine but is not caffeine but is actually Cocaine. I wonder if this means that Cocaine is the antidote or is related to it in some way?

Lab Report

Looking at the lab report Edword found, I noticed in its heading...
"Test Subject: KK" = Kevin Kressig?!

Kevin

I suspect you are right Rich since he says:

Re: Kevin

So, perhaps Kevin was the one of the Seven we were supposed to have helped escape the clutches of CoV last week?

I just sent a rather intimidating email to Pastor Bryson detailing the sins of his board so far and demanding that he release any patients he has that are going through the Passionix trials. I'll share any reply I get.

GOT IT!
Frigging finally. :)

Oh, man, these people are insane.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Note that Doug Kressig repeatedly refers to the following sentence, phrased exactly the same way each time, as "useful information":

Do not swallow Passionix if taking any cannabinoids and all other internal stimulant drugs such as dextroamphetamine, Spanish fly, caffeine, epinephrine, and ritalin.

If you index into that using the CAS numbers, you get:

O-S-L
I-A-W
L-N-O
O-D-O
F-A-D

Read down the columns to get OIL OF SANDALWOOD.

I've sent the antidote in to Douglas Kressig via the entry box on the Common Questions page. Hopefully, the day is saved!

Well done, Proj!!!

I've been dreaming about those numbers like the sequence in Lost. Smile Now may they rest in peace.

Xander

This evening I sent a message to Xander via the Garden Wall:
Quote:
Re: Who's Next?
Yo, X-Man! I'm thinkin Mr. Kressig's son Kevin might be one of the Seven... cos they tested Passonix on him!!

And promptly got back this reply:
Quote:
Tested it on his own son? Not good. It sounds like either Kressig or his kid is the member of the Seven. What kind of info do you guys got on this member of the Seven? Are you getting close? How about the Kindness member? What's going on there? Tabby and I are hoping to meet some of these cats in "real life" soon. Peace.
