Oh! No, it's not decompression, you see its a kind of program that hides files in the background of pictures. You need a password to dig them out. Check out the ARG tutorial up in the box at the top left of your screen. It explains it better than I do.
Oh crap! I have been doing it wrong. I knew it.
Thanks. I'll read that
Meanwhile, try Aly Zarin for a password
What have you tried so far?

i've tried various passwords with no luck (that is if it's stegged?). the write up on the book on amazon, seems to refer to someone called jude who goes to a bowling alley called the inferno (neither of which work).

What about something related to the author's background OR the Biblical reference of Kiss of Judas?

The story is about the urban legend where people get their kidneys stolen.
I tried kidney, kidneys... urban legends uhm and Tachyon-related stuff.
Is it possible this isn't camouflaged? Do we know it is or just suspect?
Also there's a Nick Cave connection and Nick Cave was in the last puzzle. Just a thought.

I'm still pointing at size for whether or not its a puzzle. It's taking up 2.25 megs on my computer right now. That's weird. Also I just can't see any way to progress through this
Also tried- Thirty silver pieces jesus pilot michael kidney

i think the size is just down to it being a bmp file. i just took another random jpg (1024x768), and used paint to save it as a 24-bit bmp file - it came out at exactly the same size 2.25mb (that's not to say it still isn't stegged though, as i believe there's some apps out there that can hide data without changing the original file size). it's getting late here though, i gotta go to bed - good luck dude.

Random words brainstorm (sorry if I repeat)
Iscariot, Mount of Olive, Betrayal, heroin, John (only Gospel not to include story), Passover, Satan
What about rearranging words from the email?

We followed so many bunny trails before finding that one out too.

Well no news, and I need sleep no matter what the ARG commandments say. Found a forum dedicated to the writer in question www.welcometothevelvet.com. Look around and talk to them, see if there's anything.

I, too, got the email (which is exciting in and of itself).
REEDIT - Eve = lesbian, Jude = hooker, Phineas Poe = cop
BTW - bowling alley in KMJ = The Inferno.
Jude goes bowling when she's depressed
I think Poe might've had the note in his pocket?

Phineas Poe is the cop from KMJ, and the character Jude (hooker) from the book goes bowling when she's depressed. You think that's all the agent wants?

He seemed very interested in getting something out of that image file. But honestly I don't know what he wants. I have tried four different programs to decrypt the bmp and have been told by them that it is not in fact encrypted.
I hit a wall.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hide-in-picture/
???
