the clue

I have a new approach, but need some of you smart people to help. I'll try to hide it, but this is my first attempt.

I've taken the piece from 'the clue' and traced the lines on a piece of clear stock hoping to use it as a template to guide where to place the equation pieces. Nothing fit nicely. It was a 4" square so expanded it to a 5" square to fit inside the equation base. Still nothing is fitting nicely. It might need to be expanded just a little more so the edges of the traced lines touch the edges of the base. If the equation pieces match this template, then it would (might) indicate which solution was correct.

If the spoiler attempt did not work, I'm sorry, but this has been out long enough that I may not have destroyed anyone's fun. Thanks in advance for any help.
