After being told to go back to page 4 for a perfectly legitimate question, I have to do this. Mad

Anyone happen to notice what happens when you click the go button on the 4 new cards we just got. it appears to enter you into some sort of sweepstakes. http://www.the39clues.com/cahillweb/article/Scholastic-Book-Fairs-US-Sweepstakes

p.s. if you read the link above it tells you where the cards came from

That was on the same page, only 7 posts above the answer. Not back 40+ pages.

And yes, I'm a bit snippy. I've been around here a while, and had a valid question that was ridiculed. What a role model for children. That's not why we are discussing this book. I think most of us are trying to help eachother out here.

When I clicked your links, I get a card that says null. Is that what happens for you too?

That sure makes it seem like the cards aren't in distribution yet. Though it seems like 408 and 409 might be the same card. But I could be completely wrong.

At the risk of quoting myself....

And we also know...

When I check my cards, I am missing two Lucian and one Tomas. I am also missing one agent and two secrets.

If we assume (fairly safely) that 404 = 409 (Secret / Lucian) and 412 = 403 (Agent / Tomas) then the missing 408 is a Secret / Lucian card.

Note that it *could* be an un-attributed clone pt #404, #406, #410.

That matches - the missing #408 could be the same as #409 but the Null Card confirms it is a Lucian / Secret so #406 (Spy Kit) and #410 (Natalie's Strategy) are also candidates.

Also the card may not have credits because it hasn't been printed yet...

Very cool dragongirl! I tried something similar earlier for the cards I was missing. I didn't create a clickable hyperlink, though -- I just edited the cardID in my browser's address bar. That didn't work. What browser are you using? I use FireFox. I don't understand the difference between the editing the URL and creating a hyperlink, but I'm glad to be enlightened with this technique . Smile

BTW, clamoring for the promo cards is exactly the reason that the advertisers do it. It's bad enough that book sellers have to resort to this type of promotion to get kids to read. It is disheartening to have people practically ignore the much more interesting questions about how the story interweaves with history and the lessons to be learned about geography and so much more. My hope is that attempts to figure out when TPTB will release the next ad (promo card) will eventually die out, but probably not until the last book is released. The advertisers are good. They know what hooks people. It's great fun to collect all the promo cards, but sometimes I feel used by the marketers. Sad

We have had no advertising here. Today I went into the book shop again and it still had a stack of books. They missed the mark in HK. But then HP didn't take off here until book 4. The nice thing about this from my stand is My daughter isn't clamoring for more (although I am).

But then, we can't compete for prizes either. I agree with you, it makes for a bunch of good "learning" outside the normal school stuff!

Wiki bruce is missing some photos of cards. Are you missing these, and would you like a photo of them?

They're aren't photos or scans actually, they're the images nabbed from the cache whe viewing the card. Essentially, what's not yet added to the thumbnails are for cards I haven't entered codes for Smile

The only real photo/scan is for the #2 card in the special section, just as evidence of its similar visual design.

Thebruce, I actually though you had some/all of the cards actually printed 413-416 (and if you have any spares, I have extra 405s -printed as 2- and an extra 407 to trade).

I don't think that 413-416 are virtual only (we have people who actually have the physical cards, such as thebruce).

Nope, nope... if you recall, I asked if there was confirmation that 413-416 existed physically, or if it was just the 400-403 cards with those cods...
I have zero special cards.

Technically then, the 413-416 cards, if 400-403 are indeed misprints, would not exist. We shouldn' have them. If 400-403 shoud have been printed with their own virtual card codes. If 413-416 do exist physically, then yes they're unlocked.

Basically, we should be aiming to match up physical card number with codes that unlock the same virtual card number. At this point, 413-416 are discrepencies; 408, 409, 412 have no codes or physical #'s found; 404, 410, 411 are only vitual (walmart or amazon); the rest are all as they should be - physical card with a code that unlocks its own virtual card.

It's a shame more cards aren't virtual. I can't read them on the web Crying or Very sad I'd like to know what the front of each promotional card says.

If you see a # in the URL (with text after it), it's an achor - it's not actually part of a URL request, but rather a browser thing that's intended to jump to certain part of the page (the url before the #).

There's a tricky little thing that people use with flash sites though (ie 39clues) - it can read the entire url including the anchor text, so a single URL, when including an achor, can tell its flash content some 'command'. In this case, without the anchor, the flash would load with the default MyCards display. If you add the anchor, when the flash loads, it can jump to what the anchor text says (a card #). However, if the URL is already loaded, and you change the anchor text, the browser won't actually reload the page, so the flash itself isn't reloaded, and it doesn't sense the new anchor text.

So that's why hyperlinking, or explicitly loading the page, with anchor will work, but just changing the anchor text in the browser itself doesn't.

When I changed the numbers today at my office I got the null cards. At home tonight I don't. Is it because I use xp at work and vista here? I know that is a stupid sounding question, but I really don't know.

Thank you for the first 4-400 cards! They work. Are these physical cards, or electronic cards? If they are e-cards, do you have a link?

EDIT--didn't see the post. So now it's only 408-409, 412? is that right? Finding the cards is almost as much fun as finding the clues!

Right, here is the updated list of them all:

  • Card 405: Surveillance - G69CKR3K9T (Borders Card) - physical card printed as 2, found in the US

Anyone with new, confirmed, information please reply!

Edit: Shortened link ~sapagoo

My surveillance camera codes are 22FC46MJX2 and 237DRWJJX2... use them and pass them on!

Card #405 also can be found as a pdf file at borders.com website: http://media.bordersstores.com/pdf/39cluescard.pdf

Some browsers may refresh the page content (and the flash) or reload the page itself, or some caching effect or whatnot, which would allow the flash to 're-check' the url.

(eg, in javascript, a document.location change may have the effect of manually changing the anchor link but reloading the page for the flash)
who knows.
But my previous post explains why a browser may not show that anchor-change effect; if its setup doesn't allow any effect to trickle to a page's content by changing the url anchor. Smile
