@ Tim >> Well, I noticed it was sitting on water so did a search on soviet seaplanes (eventually] and the first site had the missile platform. After that it was cake. Here's a specs page. Link.

@ Nighthawk>> Sweet! Thanks for doing this. Can't wait to see the scans...Weather in Miami looks almost as bad as it is in Honolulu. Wink

SCANS!!!

ETA:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Now that I think of it... You bring an event like this, branded so heavily in communist symbolism, to Miami and you'll have quite a riot.

Literally.

Thanks yet again, Nighthawk.

The quote is from Aldus Huxley and the medal is the "Excellent Propagandist Of The M.V.D." which is "Awarded to M.V.D. [Ministry of Internal Affairs] personnel for excellent work in propaganda promoting the works of the M.V.D. using various art forms and media." All that from wikipedia.

So are we assuming Robert Kelleher is one of the trio?

Been searching around trying to find anything, but not much luck.

Based on this...
Quote:

"SAT" is the IATA code for San Antonio Airport, which does not serve Houston (Houston is served by George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which has the IATA code of "IAH"). This may have been an oversight.

In the case that this wasn't an oversight, and it was intentional... I found this...

The "Crowne" Plaza, which is located in San Antonio, TX has a room (Fiesta Meeting Room B) which is exactly 113.53 SqM.

"Crowne" from the defense site, "San Antonio" from the airport code and "113.53" from the stock price on crowne.mfbiz.

I don't know if it's anything or not.. but anyways... That's all I've got for now.

The Dazvsemir Bershadensky announcement is detailed in the Soviet Star News now. He sports a KGB dagger insignia.

Thanks bigtime to Nighthawk--a 7 days a week Argster. Smile

Well hell, that sure doesn't sound like a coincidence. Interesting find.

Thanks, NightHawk... The only reason I think it may not be anything is because so far, they've been pretty accurate with their directions, whether website or physical location. So, I don't know...

I had figured out the braille part of it but couldn't figure out how to translate it... How did you know to use rot13... what exactly is rot13, other than the obvious, a type of encryption.

Hey TIM, Welcome aboard. Glad you signed up after lurking so long. Very Happy

The ROT-N ciphers are also known as Caesarian Shift and are really just the alphabet shifted N places. So when encoding in ROT-1 a becomes b, b becomes c, etc. So to decode ROT-1 you'd use ROT-25 (N-1]. But why work. There's a decoder here that does 'em all at once.

And as long as I'm doing it, the unfiction cipher bible is here.

As far as your Crowne, SAT, 113.53, it actually looks pretty good to me. Do we have anyone in the Houston area?

On the first one, subtlety is way better than something overt, in my opinion. When you figure it out, it just brings a smile to your face. And it sounds pretty solid to me, they did it as the first real-world drop instead of in a website so we would scan for every little detail. Being more special, it's less likely something'll slip past us. However, they've been specific with addresses because most of them aren't "important" domains (.com, .net, .org, etc), and hinting would have us googling for something we may not find: too new and not much visited.

And I just figured it was either a rot or vigenere. And rot-13 is by far the most popular rotation. Afterwards, I was going to try with all the rest, and if none were the answer, vigenere with a couple of keywords (and if I didn't manage to make it out, then I'd resume studying, since exams are just around the corner).

Awesome, thanks so much for the help, guys. This is the first time doing one of these things and it's a lot of fun. Can't wait to see what comes of it.

Ok, Natasha just had a chat with Belle, Nighthawk, and myself...

I've attached a transcript. She put a few different links in there so you may want to take a look..

Also, we learned that she hasn't been altogether truthful..

Anyway, she wants us to find someone near Houston...anyone game?

I guess it depends how near Houston it is!!!! I live kind of near Houston, but I'm working on my dissertation, so not a lot of free time.

Also, re: the discrepancy between the airport code SAT and the destination Houston....

Could it be that the google confirmation page referred to an entire trip, but the ticket/boarding pass was just one leg of it? Meaning the destination is San Antonio, but the boarding pass is just evidence of one leg of the trip.

Just a thought.
