Another exchange with Peter, very different tone, I'm wondering if its IG or if they have changed writers *shrug*

Nothing plot-worthy, just posting in case it becomes important in the future.

I said
Quote:
Mr. Severn,
Imagine my surprise when I open up my e-mail inbox and see that I have been
included in the discussion between yourself and Mr. Joergensen, and a few
sentries expecting answers as to why I was included in that e-mail. Luckily
the last e-mail you sent directly to me had no references to our previous
discussions, so it was easily explained. It is funny many of the sentries
completely trust people they have never met before. However, many would
have seen my e-mailing you with that proposal rash, and I do not want to
handle the grief or the loss of standing within the Outpost community.
However, that is not the reason I am writing to you today.

In one of your earlier e-mails you referenced herding cats, and I can now
defiantly identify with that saying. I feel that I am trying to point out
potential threats to the business deals we are conducting and they are brush
it off as paranoid or making the situation too complicated. Now while I
don't expect any trouble from the 'big game's' lackeys, I have found it is
best to always prepare for the worst. Now I know you are a busy man,
however if you happen to see that the lackeys are planning something big on
the 31st, that you let myself or any of your other Sentry contacts know.
Hopefully everything we are seeing will go off without a hitch and we can
expect more....interesting business deals in the future. Please know that
this is a concerned Sentry asking and not Providence as a whole.

I hope that your conference goes well, and perhaps after it is over you
could send myself or another sentry a copy of your agenda (if it is not too
much trouble), as it is always good to keep on top of the current security
trends. As always: Thank you for your time.

Transtar

My apologies, I always assumed this was a collective arrangement, I didn't
intend to complicate matters further.

You can be assured that I would want to make any of our rendezvous both
neutral territory and free from any intruding parties. I have my own
operatives' safety to think about as well.

Sincerely,

Peter Severn

Ok 2 sets of e-mails between myself and peter, probably going to post the Last one to SO, trying to figure out the best way to bring it IG:

*disclaimer: if you don't want to know, don't read it*
In reply to the concerned e-mail that peter sent
I wrote:

Mr Severn,
I was in touch with Mr J. last night, however I needed to post this
information to the Outpost. So my best guess is that Mr. J's yahoo account
decided that your e-mails were "spam". I apologize for this and I'm sure
Mr. J will get his spam filters in order after this.

This is in strict confidence, while I am a sentry, I feel that you should be
made aware of the climate at the outpost, since we are still in the middle
of the transactions . After reading through the e-mails that were attached
a certain line made me smile, while talking about the old Outpost you stated
that " it was all armchair quarterbacking and personal posturing with very
little action." And that is exactly what is happening currently within the
Outpost. After our first three exchanges have taken place, a couple of
sentries have questioned many of the policies that we have put into place
for these exchanges. The major consensus is that these information swaps
are a good thing, but we should still be wary. However there has appeared a
vocal group that says we should share as little information with you as
possible. Some of the Sentries that have pushed for progress have taken
"sabbaticals", but there are a few of us who are trying to get done what
needs to be done. Our "contact" in chorazos is giving us little to nothing
to go on, and some of us are still trying to figure where his loyalties
lie. However there are others that want to protect him and question where
your loyalties lie. (as for myself I question everyones loyalties) I am
trying to look for ways to keep the progress that we have going, however if
the outpost stagnates, I might have to make a personal sacrifice to make
sure the fight goes on. If that fails, there are a few sentries that are
willing to be proactive and might be willing to take positions in your
organization, or another organization that is fighting on a different front
to further our goal of taking down this cult.

In our defense Howard is trying to patch things up and make sure we keep
working towards our goal, and almost all of us highly value Howard's
opinion, so I think the more drastic measures will not be necessary.
However it seems like the mood of the outpost changes on a dime so I want to
be prepared for that eventuality.

I'm sorry if it sounds like I am complaining, it is that I have to be
careful who I say my criticisms to within the outpost. But I'm sure that
you have seen such things happen at the outpost as well. Again, if you need
anything or have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Peter replied:

I haven't been quite sure how to respond to this email, Transtar. I have
associates on my end that require active management as well. Some of them
think I have a soft spot for the Outpost because of my years there. They
might be right, but that doesn't change my optimism. In my line of work, one
needs a constantly renewing source of optimism.

Perhaps it will be helpful with your colleagues for me to make my motives
more clear, something that I had hoped this second round trust building
would address. From my perspective, old friends stumbled into something
dangerous, and it cost many of them their lives. Despite that, the Outpost
pursues the culprits, culprits tied into something deeply dangerous. Once
upon a time, I put down my work with the Sentries to take up work with
another group. So did Arthur. There are deep connections between us already.

The best metaphor I could use is that our army stumbled upon a guerilla cell
of locals, and now we're discussing whether that cell is a loose canon,
bystanders to keep out of the flack, or new allies for our overmatched
brigade. The army needs to march on one way or the other.

I suspect the distrust some feel comes from Devon and how OTHERS (not the
Knights or Forsythe) chose to treat him. That was an uncomfortable affair in
West Virginia, a distraction from our focus. If I had had agents free in the
vicinity, they would have handled the situation very different.

Perhaps our challenges, Transtar, aren't quite as different as people think.

And my reply:
Quote:
Mr. Severn,

I apologize for my e-mail, work has been placing me under a lot of stress and seeing the Outpost's resources being taken up by bickering was enough to set off a bad mood. But that is not your problem, and I apologize for the unprofessional behavior.

On the business at had, many at the outpost blame yourself/forsythe/the knights with the kidnap and supposed "torture" of Devon, and that is why there is a knee-jerk distrust. From your last e-mail you make it sound as if your organizations had nothing to do with that matter. This leaves us with three possibilities 1) I misunderstood your statements 2) you are lying or 3) one of our informants is lying. I do not like the implications of number 2 or number 3. Perhaps it would go a long way for the sentries as a whole to hear your side of what happened in WV. Even if it does cast you in a negative light I feel that the sentries would be more inclined to trust you. Your metaphor makes a lot of sense, and I know there are some guerillas (myself included) that are grateful for the instruction and help of the Army. Thank you, we do need all the help that we can get.

Thank you for your time,
Transtar

And his final reply:
Quote:
I didn't say I had nothing to do with that matter, in the same way I imagine
the Sentries can't say they had nothing to do with that matter. I did indeed
let certain friends in military intelligence know, as a professional
courtesy, that we had located one of the suspects that had attracted their
attention in Atlanta. Therefore, it didn't surprise me when they picked him
up. I was, however, deeply surprised by how vigorously they questioned him.
Of course, conversely, I never would have known he was there if Arthur
hadn't needed rescuing. Eventually, they seemed satisfied that there was
nothing there to gain, which I argued several times was the case.

Judge that as you will.

Either he is lying or this is a major twist in our perception of peter.

If nothing comes of this I won't post it on the outpost, but to give you all a heads up it sounds like Peter is willing to talk (to me at least).

From Me:
Quote:
Mr. Severn,
As I am sure you are aware there has been a nosy reporter that has been looking into Choraoz as it relates to the "Tarot Murders". The Sentries have been following his story for some time, however something is not sitting right with me about those murders or the reporter. First he named a former sentry (Mr Crosby) as his main suspect, however the sentry's know that Mr Crosby was killed last year. With a tie so close to our home, I started looking at our own and there are a few suprising similarites between the described murder scenes and the condition that we found Mr. Bryce Droher in. Even more troubling is that one of the sentries has reported recieving a personal message from Bryce, and I find it hard to believe that access to the outpost would be allowed as part of his treatment. The only knowlege that we came across of Bryce's condition came from your channels, so I wanted to ask if there has been a sudden change in Mr Droher's condition. I fear that he escaped, but I hope that I am just being overly cautious.

Thank you for your time, and if there is anything that the sentries or myself could help you with (I'm sure there are many things you do not wish to waste your firm's talent on) do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you again,
Transtar

Mr. Star,

Thank you for this bit of intelligence: I must admit, Bryce had crossed neither my mind nor my desk for some time. I'll have my staff look into this further. Please don't hesitate to send me any other information you might stumble across. Who knows it where it might lead more professional investigations?

Sincerely,
Peter Severn
