Another look at the 20 minute media were shown recently
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/11/20/things-i-noticed-while-watching-20-minutes-of-jj-abrams-star-trek

yup, definite reboot; they feel that it's geared for the mainstream and trekkies really won't enjoy it, if they're looking for film faithful to the classic in every way.

but they still feel it's what the public is looking for, and it was certainly enjoyable (well, the 20 minutes they saw =P)

For being a film that's supposed to not appeal to Trek fans, it sure looks like they got a lot of the details right - which is what a lot of Trek fans were worried about. The different series in the Trek universe were not just different because of a ship or location, they also had differences in style. This may be a little more radical, but it doesn't look so radical as to offend any Trek fan that's got any sense of rationality (or maybe a life?). I think the only Trek fans that are going to be all that deeply offended are going to be the original series nuts who basically shun anything made after 1978 anyway.

Oh, and about that Corvette - it appears to be a '66 big block (427). That would be the year the original series started.

Agreed. I'm actually pretty excited to see the series re-imagined and I love the little nod with the 'vette. I agree with the writer, there was no way that was accidental, especially considering it's J.J. Abrams and how much thought he puts into everything.

https://boldlygo.intel.com/content/index.html has updated with the USS Kelvin link active. When I click I get the following message:

"Starfleet acknowledges your request. Check back for authorization to access Starfleet Archives."

I wonder if this site is actually going to pan out to be something or if, as Ralphie said, "It's just a commercial!?!"

Yes, although he apparently hasn't aged very well.
