Just like starting over

Another day, another server crash. With the move to Manhattan comes a new ISP, because the last one managed not only to lose all my files but failed to produce a viable backup. They should have hired me when I put in my application. Oh well, their loss. And my loss too, I guess. It's just bits and bytes, nothing big. Just my life story, that's all. Damn them!

Dip dip dip dip get a job...

I started my new position today as webmaster of Tomorrow's Talk. I triple and quadruple checked to make sure they didn't have a problem with employees mentioning where they work. I would hate to be one of the stories you read about in blogdom on a regular basis. No problem, they said - we know people have lives, we know they have to blow off steam occasionally, just don't slag on us too hard. (Honestly I don't even think they'll know where to look to read it.)

Anyway, it went pretty well I think. First days are always a little weird no matter where you are. But there weren't any serious miscommunications or bad things, really.

Welcome to the Jungle

It occurs to me that I'm in the middle of a concrete jungle with no place to reconnect to nature. I've got to find a way to get out once in a while. I've got to remember that I need to do this. Maybe it's that Arapaho blood. Dad'd kill me if he heard me saying that. I still have no idea why. Not like I can ask him, either. One of life's little mysteries, I guess.

Hopping down the bunny trail

Happy Easter. I'll be the one at home alone, eating a dozen hard-boiled eggs. No, I'm not having a pity-party really. Just a little bored. Someone needs to order a killer Puzzlecard so's I can occupy myself with it.

Working for the weekend

Man am I glad it's the weekend. I thought things would settle down at work after a few weeks but it's been fire after fire to put out. Those people are obsessed with network security. Every single day, first thing I have to check for patches on every single piece of software installed. They don't trust the auto-updaters to do it. I am Ron, the living breathing auto-updater.

Violently happy

If this is fulfilling, then I am happy. Right?

I am not convinced.

Don't worry be happy

And if I believe hard enough that I am happy, then it will really happen. Right? Because I keep telling myself this is my dream job, what I moved across the country for, spent all my money for and sold most of my stuff to do, therefore it is where I will be happy, damnit, happy.

I'm so not sure what I'm doing here.

Love is all around

Ay, muchachos. Feliz cinco de mayo! And here's where Ron's high school Spanish comes to a screeching halt.

I actually got out of the city last weekend. I didn't have any particular destination in mind, but I hadn't driven my car in over a month and I am paying an outrageous fee to park it in the city, so I have to decide whether I am going to keep the car or ditch it and save myself a lot of dinero. I'm loath to give it up. It's pretty much my last connection with my former life. If I sell it, it's burning major bridges. Major.

So anyway, I went toodling around and ended up at Niagara Falls. It's beautiful, it's majestic, it's full of FREAKING PEOPLE IN LOVE. I was the only single person there. And the worst part was that there was no Superman in sight. So to keep myself from plunging into the river, I shuffled off to see Wright's enormous Darwin Martin House. I came back to town on Sunday. It was almost, but not quite, like coming home.

Pick a little talk a little

I got in two more Puzzlecard orders today. Someday I will get there, to where I want to be when I grow up: I want to be Mark Burnett with a highly successful ARG franchise on the side. Cause this day to day pedantic crapola has got to end. Soon, ok? Like yesterday?

Nowhere Man

I'm still alive. Just don't have much to say. Hi, how are you?

Inga: You haven't even touched your food.

Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein: There! Now I've touched it! Happy?

And She Was

One of the ladies at work set me up on a blind date for last night. I picked up my date at 7. By 7:15 she was talking about how many children she wanted. By 7:30 came the discussion about how her therapist told her she didn't do well alone. By 8:00 I was about to do the old "Go to the restroom and never come back" trick. We sat through the movie (Shrek 2, and she kept talking about how if she had kids they would have her sense of humor and would love the movie, didn't I love the movie too, hmmmmm?) and I paid her cab fare home and I ran quick like a bunny home and read all my Sports Illustrated and sat around the house in my underwear and burped.

Perhaps being a bachelor isn't so bad after all.

Somewhere out there

The pressure is off me and onto everyone involved in the new project, about which I dare not speak. Which is a Good Thing, as poor old Martha would say. Checking, double checking, triple checking, quadruple checking, well, you get the idea. Somewhere there's a typo and someone will find it and it will be my ass. I guarantee it!

How Soon is Now

Next week is the big week at work. There have been a million tiny details to see to. My life has been consumed with this and that. 14 hour workdays, no overtime because I'm on a salary, haha!

I need a hug.

It's a mistake

You see? I told you. The press releases go out and almost immediately someone finds a freaking typo. That page was proofread by at least half a dozen different people and some guy named after a fish comes along and points out a mistake just as big as the wart on my great-aunt Pearl's chin. Hairier, even. Some people.

Crazy

I've been getting the most bizarre e-mails lately at work. Some of them are just Wrong (lady, I might sleep with you but it's not going to get you on the show), and some of them are downright intriguing (secret messages everywhere, did you know??). So, yeah... either the world's going crazy or I am.

Question

Ok.. Looking over Ron's blog.. did anyone notice a typo in the press release they sent out?

I haven't had time to look at it myself.

Casting Call - Urban Hunt 7/20/04

Brooklyn, NY – July 20, 2004 – Tomorrow's Talk Studios begins today a nation-wide contestant search for it's new reality game show Urban Hunt.

Urban Hunt will center around a group of contestants criss-crossing the United States in pursuit of a cash prize of up to $500,000. Applicants must be over 18, like adventure, and be able to travel. Applications and further information are available at www.urbanhunt.com.

During bonus missions, a team of online advisors, comprised of home viewers, is needed to assist (and sometimes foil) contestants' missions by choosing the location for each task. Online advisors are eligible to win prizes by making correct decisions. Internet and telephone access are required.

Tomorrow's Talk Studios is a leading producer of reality television programming. Their latest show, Your Money or Your Wife, is scheduled to debut on a major network next year.

For additional information about Tomorrow's Talk Studios or the services that they offer, visit their web site at http://www.tomorrowstalk.com or call 718.250.4171.

Here is the press release and I believe the typo is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"it's", in the first paragraph. It should be its.

edit: I'm the last one that should be pointing out typos. I just fixed one of my own.

For clarification, the typo I pointed out to him was on the site, which he refers to in his blog as "on the page."

Was Ron responsible for PR as well as being webmaster? If so, then it's conceivable there's another "fish" out there who complained about the superfluous apostrophe in the press release. Otherwise, I think you just found a new one. Wink

i remember a puzzle in another game where you needed to take all the missing letters and incorrect letters from a text and string them together.

maybe ron is telling us to do that with his press release(s). maybe there is a press release yet to come out.

To mention the obvious (just because it hasn't been mentioned yet), I gotta wonder if there is or will be any relevance to the the fact that all of Ron's Blog entries any song titles?

Actually, it has been mentioned already. Have a look: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5724

Though it is true that nobody has yet connected the dots on whether or not this is a puzzle...
