[Trailhead?] This is My Milwaukee
Black star? God Seed? Milwaukee??!!

The site:

http://www.thisismymilwaukee.com/

Potentially relevant:

There's a very subliminal feel to the video overall. After some light search engine digging, I haven't come up with anything..yet.

So what do you all think?

Either really important, or a stand in.

Question

Sadly, I think we're going to run out of leads until Monday when the phone lines open back up. I'll be at the starting line around 9am.

The video has been analyzed to death, but here are some screencaps I found interesting:

Correct image tags = "<"img">"<"/img">", but without the "s.

Very Happy

Sorry for stepping on your toes, but I wanted to fix the image link for you, cos there's some stuff in here that I think's worth talking about:
Quote:

Equation:

The Flood:

SNEET SNEET:

Cthulu?

Okay...

1) Equation: If you look at it, it's sort of like M + 1 = L, which is true, L is one letter higher than M. I wonder if the distances between the other letters matter in some sort of equation?

I thought the ordering of the letters were odd... they aren't just like A, B, and C. And the announcer tells teenagers to run to a building rated "K" or higher, and that, luckily, all schools are at least an L. K is higher in the alphabet than L, so what is the real order for the rating system?

2) The Flood: It's really interesting, especially how they flip through it so fast. So, parts of Milwaukee were flooded?

3) SNEET SNEET: I thought there might be something with this. It's just weird how the words freeze upside down like that and stay there for a little while. Probably doesn't matter, but the words rotate just like the teenager rotate when the giant thing descends.

This is an interesting thought. If you go back the second post in this thread by dposse it links to a book by David J Rodger called "God Seed." I've never read the book, but check out the reviews:

Quote:

David Rodger has created a World where Lovecraft's mythos enters the near future.

Has anyone read the book? It only seems to have been published in the UK and neither the book or the author have wikipedia entries. I did find a website for him: http://www.davidjrodger.com/

And he seems to have helped create an RPG called "Yellow Dawn." I'm not familiar with it, but this is the description:

Quote:

It's been 10 years since Yellow Dawn happened and you're part of this world. A survivor. You've seen a handful of cities bounce back; you've seen settlements spring up across the New Wilderness and you've seen the dead things that come shrieking out of the ruins at full sprint. Rumours of alien monsters and Satanic ceremonies filter out from the deep wilderness on the tongues of travellers; you've seen recorded footage, fuzzy and badly shot, purporting to be evidence of a new threat to humankind. Some people believe, most do not. There's a hundred different stories hitting the satellite feeds every day, of people carving a niche for themselves in this Brave New World: adventurers, entrepreneurs, engineers, mercenaries and story tellers. It's been 10 years and now you've got a chance to join them. A chance to become a hero. Post an advert on-line fishing for clients, or stuff your possessions into a backpack and head off into the New Wilderness to test your skills.

Could be a complete dead end, but figured it would be worth noting because of the possible Lovecraft connection.

definitely. something feels very Lovecraftian.

I googled "fennel myth" to see if fennel has any particular symbolic meaning.

I found this: http://www.theoi.com/Flora1.html

Quote:

Fennel
Fire of Prometheus. The Titan Prometheus stole fire from heaven for man, hiding the flame inside a fennel stalk. As punishment for the crime Zeus had him chained to a mountain and set an eagle to peck out his liver.

"Fire of Prometheus" is clickable, so here's some more info:
Quote:

PROMETHEUS was the Titan god of forethought and crafty counsel who was entrusted with the task of moulding mankind out of clay. His attempts to better the lives of his creation brought him into direct conflict with Zeus. Firstly he tricked the gods out of the best portion of the sacrificial feast, acquiring the meat for the feasting of man. Then, when Zeus withheld fire, he stole it from heaven and delivered it to mortal kind hidden inside a fennel-stalk. As punishment for these rebellious acts, Zeus ordered the creation of Pandora (the first woman) as a means to deliver misfortune into the house of man, or as a way to cheat mankind of the company of the good spirits. Prometheus meanwhile, was arrested and bound to a stake on Mount Kaukasos where an eagle was set to feed upon his ever-regenerating liver (or, some say, heart). Generations later the great hero Herakles came along and released the old Titan from his torture.

Prometheus was loosely identified in cult and myth with the fire-god Hephaistos and the giant Tityos.

It makes sense with the rest of the video. They tried to capture the power of God, and were punished/it got out of control, so it had to be buried and forgotten (i.e. all of the visual references to Fennel being planeted, Fennel "belongs in the ground, where is yours?", Fennel "UNDER" the table, etc).

Not sure that this progresses the story or solves anything, but it seems the fennel references aren't random.

Something I need to point out.

David J Rodger is using the same publisher I am for my novel. Its an online publishing house that allows you to self publish if you wish. So you can buy any of his books.
The link is for Godseed.

From the Urban Dictionary Street Slang:

1. SNEET
(1)a person who is very particular about the things they are interested in.(2)one who is attentive to detail and quality(3)verb:"sneetish" to be that which is particlar in any given topic or field of knowledge.
Man, she is so snetish! where did she get those shoes?

Those sneets are very determined at findind a viable solution to the depletion of natural energy sources

First time poster - never got sucked into an ARG before but this is too much fun.

This could be a complete red herring, but someone mentioned looking more closely at the website so I looked at the map in the background on the main video website:

http://thisismymilwaukee.com/images/postcard.jpg

Comparing it to Google Maps, it does appear to be an accurate representation of the Milwaukee city center and coastline. The only thing that jumped out at me was by far the largest building pictured on the postcard map (Black Star HQ?). It does not appear to actually exist, according to a Google Maps street view of the approximate location.

Not sure if that specifically has any relevance, but it would be interesting if the postcard map held any other Easter Eggs. Anyone notice anything out of place in the postcard map?

Great thinking rironin. I was curious about that. Since there is so much focus on "looking a little closer" from the video itself and also from Todd.

Someone brought up the fact that when you look up fennel on wikipedia, there is a reference to it being featured as the "Flax Seed in the anime Blackstar no Blackstar". To me this seems to point directly to the video, specifically the end credits. Mainly because every search I do brings up no results for any such anime. And every fan of that genre (that I have spoken to) hasn't heard of it either. Now, was this edit made to the wiki by the PM or someone working with them as a clue? I would like to believe so, mainly because any random person watching the video wouldn't know what the name of the anime is....and also because it would be a clue...and more clues are always good. end of rant.

merg. I don't want to wait until tomorrow to find out more!

The edit to wikipedia to include that was presumably written through a proxy, the IP address was from 212.54.24.198, which checks out as from Finland. I know when I've run proxies, I've got ones IPs to that.

So basically, even though the proxy IP was from Finland, we don't know where they really were? (I'm just clarifying because I am not too knowledgeable about that sort of thing) Can you tell the date of the addition?

EDIT: I might be blind but it appears that the entry was removed from the wiki...
