as long as we're being kinda pissy in this thread, I want to get something off my chest too.

whoever made it seem like there are no pay phones within 20 miles of many coordinates, I would like to smack you silly. give me my last three days back. Mad

thank you.

Re: I give up.

Well, I do apologize for allowing the thread to get derailed, my bad. I'm not, however, going to sit back and let someone insult me with such poor logic, so I'll take it to the radio thread where it belongs.

Outside the radio thread I'll simply ignore Stein.

EDIT: Let me alter this. I'll go edit out my response to this in the radio thread. I'll ignore Stein outside that thread if he agrees to ignore me inside that thread. Since I find it pointless to debate with him, I'll simply stop.

I liked the billboard theory, but I'm not sure about it for the same reason I'm not sure about the possibility of physical interaction. So far, with the information we have, I'm assuming that whatever happens at the coordinates will be something *Melissa* could plausibly do. Unless clues without an in-game explanation are acceptable and/or common in an ARG? (this is my first, so all I have to go by is what I've seen so far)

Question here.. won't we know pretty much right off the bat if our theory is correct (i.e. visiting the locations) after the first axon goes hot? That would pretty much help from a process of elimination front, if something happens, groovy, if not.. on to the next theory. I agree that this is probably the actual beginning of the game and will culminate in the launch of Halo 2 on November.. bits and pieces over time.. my 2 pesos

VPISTeve: Thanks for the picture of the Vancouver PNE Rollercoaster. You can also see it in two movies, Hideaway and Happy Gilmore.

Er...

Some of the firestorm of discussion in this thread seems to have passed, and I'm not entirely sure this line of spec isn't being discussed elsewhere (if so, please do point me), but...

In regards to Dana's blog telling us "things aren't what they seem" implicitly, and telling us she's happy we're going to the axon points explicitly, I would say that Dana has, thus far, been a pretty reliable out-of-game voice as to telling us what to do and what not to do. Remember when she very explicitly told us to *not* hack Hotmail and her voicemail? And we listened?

It seems to me that, if the PMs really didn't want us going to these coordinates (hadn't expected we would, etc.), then they would have been more than capable of having Dana say something along the lines of "Um, I'm not sure why you guys are going to these coordinates, but you'll probably be trespassing on private property so I think it'd be better if you didn't." Instead, we had her calling us "brave," which seems like a totally in-game way of sucking us further into the story by creating a sense of danger/drama, which tells me, at least, that this is the right track.

Again, if this line of reasoning is being speculated on elsewhere, please do let me know where. Smile

I'd say hacking into voicemail and email is on a pretty different level. For one thing, it's illegal. For another, it could circumvent aspects of the game entirely.

Stella-

I'd agree on the "Brave" line. If anything, it reminds me of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego," which I remember playing on my Commodore 64. Whenever you'd begin going down the right trail, "henchmen" would cross your path. This blog-post strikes me as the same type of clue (although I kinda expected these to pan out as Beast-type puzzle pieces instead of actual places).

Oh well, either way I can't visit them. Frelling distance!

Yep. The PMs have no incentive to lead us down a blind alley at any time, and they do have a strong disincentive to do so. Thus, the worst that any character or bit of text can do to our group is to not help us figure out a puzzle. No one and nothing in-game can actively work against us - that just drags down everyone.

I remember playing it on a Mac Plus. The times they are... slightly a-changin'! ^_^

And back on the Apple ][, we had the wonderful hack version called Where in Hell is Carmen Sandiego which travels the 7 planes. Ah, memories...

could the reason to visit the coordinates be not to have us interact with the locations themselves, but possibly to have us be drawn away from our computers for a short period of time?

this is a serious spec... i can't think of any possibility, but just adding this in...

Probably not. Doesn't have any real IG evidence and meta-wise, the PMs a) couldn't draw all of us away and b) may not really want to, since it's the prime medium of the game.

I also doubt it. Why would they want some people away from their computers at one time and others away at another time? Seems that if that was their goal they'd have Melissa saying something like "In an effort to kill Dana I'll explode any computer connected to the network when the axon goes hot!" Wink

here's a question

Dana says:

Quote:
you're all being invited to a mysterious back room, too.

Those coordinates... and now the times that go with them... they're beckoning to some of you, aren't they?

Here's the question: what does she mean by beckoning to some of you? Does that mean that only some of the locations will be getting the information for the distributed puzzle?

As for the billboard theory, I know that there is no place for a billboard at two of the locations in New York, New York.
