Hey all, I've been lurking for a while and I just realized that the final ten episodes of Battlestar Galactica premier on January 16, 2009 - the day that the countdown ends. Could this be a connection? I know it's a stretch, but you never know. Figured I'd throw that out there...

I agree with this. I was going to post it as well. Here is the link to the new promo where it talks about how the parents have to die in order for the children to come into their own. Also, there is a "blackstar" in the story in the past, and it also shows a devasted world with a piece of wheat or grass at the end signifying a midwestern field and they pick up some dirt.

Eh...I hope it leads up to something better than that. This world that "This Is My Milwaukee" revolves around is already much more interesting to me than BSG. I don't dislike BSG, but if this was a promotion for that then I'd probably be a little disappointed.

I don't really think it is for BSG, but to be honest, there are some similarities.

- In BSG, man creates robotic Cylons to do their dirty work. They rebel, and wipe out a decent amount of humanity. In TIMM, Blackstar creates Godseed to produce power for us. Then Godseed goes crazy and fights back.
- There is some speculation about TIMM having robots (the weird non-Human tendencies of the people in the ad, the robot arm guy, and the tinfoil robot man). Again, BSG is all about human-looking robots (Cylons)
- Both seem to deal with the survival and rebuilding of something (the human race vs cities)
- They address cross-species breeding in both BSG and TIMM (debateable, as one phone call seems to state that Terry Nanny was making a joke)

Ok, that's all I can think of at the moment... Again, I doubt it, but what else is there to postulate?

I can't find any reference to black star (or "blackstar") in relation to battlestar.. do you have a link or reference?

As for parallels, if this is related to BSG, I don't think we should be seeing story "parallels" - this is earth. they've had no earth at all... if anything this will be setting up the backstory for how earth got to be the way it is on BSG.
But it's all still wild spec at this point anyway Smile
It would be cool if it were bsg though... that's a pretty significant backing.
doubt it tough Dunno

Wait. So G is supposed to be good. When chased by Godseed, go to K or better. But don't worry, schools are L... They can't seem to make up their mind whether earlier or later in the alphabet represents higher quality protection.

Maybe apartments provide protection for things that are damaging (like family trees?), but aren't strong enough to protect against Godseed fragments.

Also...

I think that that would have been "I am so sick of..." People ususally say, "I'm feeling sick" instead of "I am so sick".

I would not want to move to a place with a known monster threat, if the apartments aren't strong enough to repel them.

Something's definitely fishy... Either they're not protecting all the residents or the high school kids.

Well, in my call with Mike, he said they protect against different types of ruptures, and some have defensive systems. So maybe the school has stronger walls, but the apartments have grenade launchers? Wink

Found some type of website the other night that I cannot reproduce right now after searching. It may have had something to do with this album that was put out:
May 22, 2002: Black Star – Galactica
by rappers Mos Def and Talib Kweli

Here's the Mos Def song you mentioned...

Travellin' through, time and space
On the the Black Star galactica
Yo, another world

I don't think that many teens would be living in apartments.

Where would they live? I assume families move in to apartments, although maybe apartments are just for "young professionals".

That's a great album, but I doubt it's involved. It was the first thing I though of when I heard "Blackstar". I posted the same on SA.

Just something that's been bugging me that I am pretty sure I haven't seen mentioned yet. If it has, oops! Embarassed

In the video, Terry says, "We never asked to whom this new God would pray" when talking about what Black Star's new God.

But I think it's prey, not pray, which means that Go.D.S.E.E.D did more than just destroy cities and lends weight to that sacrificial-like image drawn by one of the kids.

Mike apparently doesn't have the best memory when it comes to his childhood. Perhaps he was a child/teenager before the Catastrophe (or whatever) and was brainwashed along with everyone else his age so they would be willing sacrifices?
Perhaps Go.D.S.E.E.D uses its "fragments" to collect more sacrifices; hence why being properly armed is important?

Or maybe he's old enough not to have to worry about it. Or he's ensconced in a fortified Blackstar building. Or he can't let on how dangerous it is because then people wouldn't come back to Milwaukee.

Classes

As far as Class G versus L and K goes, someone had a conversation with Mike that expounded on that topic.

Higher letters are better and more protective. Mike says that while you should go to K or higher if attacked, normally G is good enough. K is just safer.

With regards to Battlestar Galactica - I think those are really just coincidences because frankly, what's a family tree going to do about a robot?

I agree that it seems weird for a god to pray to someone, but I'm not sure the phrase 'prey to' makes that much more sense.
