Apocalypse translates to "lifting of the veil". A revelation of sorts. It is not the end of the world.
Furthermore, the Mayan Calendar does not end on December 21st, 2012. It merely begins the next cycle.
Perhaps our dear Roland would have benefited from this lifting of the veil?

Yeah, I read enough of it to get the gist of what the story is.

hello Hello. First time here. Not much experience, but this ARG intrigues me, hope i can be of help to any of you.
There is much potential in this plot.
Would the governments really do nothing to prepare society for an ELE
Would a corporate perspective be any different

Yeah, no kidding!
It's a shame that it isn't more like the Da Vinci code or something, delving into the theories and whatnot. Then again, this is Roland Emmerich we're talking about, whose only good movie was Stargate.
Oh well, at least I won't waste my money on it now...
Fixed that for you. Independence day was one of the worst scifi movies of the 20th century. It was the scifi equivalent of ishtar.

@ Thunderclap:
And ID4 also had a desert... puff goes the budget on the moroccan Desert wind...
But yes, eventhough 2012 holds such a big premise, we have to consider the progress from ID4 ...to Godzilla.... to The patriot... to the day after tomorrow... to 10,000BC... wait, was I talking progress?
In any case, I'm far more interested in the parallels between a real life social phenomenon and a ARG can't wait
