The Chain Links page has gone live, too: http://citizensofvirtue.com/ChainLinks.aspx

Looks like someone did indeed write a letter on behalf of political prisoners, and it inspired the people on the Job List to actually do their own tasks themselves.

Which means all of those puzzly-looking names with middle initials were... apparently just for decoration? Seriously? Wow.

A lot seems weird about the Diligence week. The MIRDEK reference was more of a distraction from decoding PAGES TITLE, which we already had. If the cards in the video had been correct according to Mirdek rules, we wouldn't even have needed that clue. Then once the Mirdek clue is identified, we're expecting to actually use the complicated decoding process of Mirdek.

And that massively cryptic hint from Tabby which really seemed to derail us more than focus us on the Job reference. All that about God's hand and reinterpreting it how you should see it, with he lowercase, not uppercase. We were even told to ignore that dates!

Tons of noise and very little signal. I guess the dates would have stood out too much if there had been less data, so it's understandable. Ultimately, I'm glad the answer was simpler rather than something really complicated (like the 42-step Mirdek process).

Regardless, I'm glad we've successfully completed it, even though it feels like perhaps we missed a step. Maybe not, who knows.

I just got this email from Jack:

Quote:
I just saw you applied for membership in the Holy Rollers Anonymous group. While that's
limited to people with gambling addiction, I did want to thank you for all you did to help
torpedo the Diligence virtue I was involved in. You guys are killer in my book.

Word from X is that you had some trouble with the initials of the disciples. Well, you got
through it just fine anyhow, but you might want to look at the names of the last two people
who posted on the Chain Links page. Maybe that'll help.

Off to do some real diligent work!

JB

Dot Hemirdek can be respaced as "do the Mirdek", but I'm not sure what to make of "solving LI".

(Happy Thanksgiving, everyone who celebrates it!)

Macons

While browsing the CoV website once again, I noticed this entry on The Lord's Due page:
Quote:
"You can't believe how tired I am of the namby-pamby image of God that most of these modern Christian organizations espouse. They want to turn God into their lover or their best buddy or something, but God is our Father. His job isn't just to love us, it's to teach us and to punish us when we stray. Our job, in relation to Him, is to obey. It's just that simple. And no one in the modern Christian community has had the strength to say this, until the Citizens of Virtue came along. Their uncompromising message of obedience to God's Word puts the focus back on God. We're not here for ourselves. We're here for Him."

This is signed by JACK MACON and he sounds very legalistic/authoritative (the kind of man a modern woman might find it difficult to be married to?!)

The new spokesperson for CoV is HOLLY MACON, who replaced Savannah Merks.

Thinking, just maybe, Holly could be the seventh person we need to rescue from the organization...

Yep, that updated ChainLinks page looks like they still want us to look at the cipher...

Back on the jobslist page, we have Dorothy P. Hemirdek on the 2nd row in the 2nd column of disciples, and Solomon A. Vingli in the 5th row of the 1st column of disciples. I didn't see anything special about their positions that would have made them stand out before now. Their first names do lend themselves to the shortened form or nickname more than most of the others on the page, Dot for Dorothy and Sol for Solomon, but other such names don't seem to yield more hints.

I really want to use this cipher! I just can't see the starting point. As for the conflicting clues, perhaps one character was tasked with getting us to use the Book of Job, while the other character was pushing us away from the birthdates for another reason? I would hate to have to retcon the game at this point, it was going so well.

(edit to add) We also have Dominic J. O'Hare in the 10th row and 3rd column, for Dominic O on the ChainLinks page; Lamar C. Reynolds in the 16th row, 3rd column, just signs his comment 'Lamar'. In all 4 of these examples, the person does NOT include their middle initial. Just an observation. Oh but wait, "marykay" is probably Mary K. Limoges. Nevermind.

(edit to add more) Back to Lamar, he signs his comment "Lamar from the INV" -- he is listed as being in Inverness, CO -- just another clue to use the first three letters of... something? The other commentor is "a2n5d1r3e4" -- we do have an Andre F. Daren, also in the 3rd column -- is his clue to reorder his name too? d1 a2 r3 e4 n5: ANDRE=DAREN

I'm going mad! Are these clues, or simply easter eggs?

Dunno if this is any use, but Dot and Sol could mean a .sol file which, if my memory is correct, is what flash sometimes uses to store data from a Flash application and is usually edited to cheat in a game (which I never do Wink ).

Hm... If nicknames are allowed, these people (in order from top to bottom) can make a message...

Dot Hemirdek
Sol Vingli
Ken Orm
Al Black
Andre Daren
Otto Betrus
Ted Forth
Ed Eco
Di Ng
Steph Ere

DO THE MIRDEK SOLVING LIKE NORMAL; BLACK AND RED ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED FOR THE DECODING STEP HERE.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that again Projectyl.

I personally think that we pre-empted the disciples puzzle when the card clue in the video was solved first. I think we were supposed to get the message from the disciples - then solve the card hands in the video. Which in turn pointed us to Job list, and then to the yahoo group, and Jack's message. I don't think there is anything else to solve in that week now.

I still think those initials looked like a puzzle... bah Confused

New Posting by Lila on the Garden Wall

Xander put me on to this:

Quote:
Don Golden knows ME?

I just got this email from Don Golden, Rob Bell's co-author for Jesus Wants To Save Christians. Here's what he says! -- Lila Hi, this is Don Golden. I've been made aware of your efforts by a friend of mine inside the Citizens of Virtue, and I encourage you to keep it going, for Felicite's sake. She contacted me about an overwhelming need in her country of Burundi. As you may know, Burundi is the poorest nation on the planet. We at World Relief have been trying to do something about that, by sponsoring a microfinance project that will help Burundian entrepreneurs begin their road to independence. You can find out more about that at http://www.worldrelief.org. It would mean a lot to me and my friend if you did. In peace, Don Golden

Reading the above, it looks like Felicite might be the seventh and last person to be rescued. Anybody here recall that name turning up before?

Hintage

Just got this on Facebook from Holly Macon:

Quote:
Hi, everybody! My name's Holly Macon, and I'm your new PR contact at Citizens of Virtue. It's a time of great change at COV, but one thing that hasn't changed is our commitment to Charity. In this holiday season, please go to http://www.citizensofvirtue.com/donations/ and donate to build our mighty church! And don't forget that crucial last step: enter a recipient's name and that recipient's country, so your gift will be recognized in their name! Thanks for donating, and for keeping Citizens of Virtue in your hearts!—Holly M

So clearly we're looking for at least one name/country combination. Could it be Felicite?

What appear to be the final steps:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

On the donations page if you check Honor or Memorial Gift and enter Felicite and Burundi as the last two fields, you receive a greeting from Felicite with instructions on how to help her cause (I made a small donation).

Then you get sent to this page where you can enter the Bank Routing Number and the Fund Number. When you enter 102643200 and 7731A, you get this:

http://www.jesuswantstosavechurches.com/truevirtue/final.php

So, I'm assuming that's all that's left and that we don't need to solve any sort of meta puzzle. We'll see what they post on the site.

I thought I'd post the e-mail that you get after the first step ToddE mentioned that leads to the web page:
Quote:
Thanks for helping us in our cause. Though I can't speak to her because I can't get messages inside Citizens of Virtue, I'm sure Felicite Keza thanks you more than you can know.

I expect this means Felicite is ready to leave the Citizens of Virtue, which means the last of The Seven will be out from under that organization's thumb. So if you're ready, you can help us bring the Citizens of Virtue's unvirtuous campaign to an end. If you have evidence that there are financial misappropriations, send it to me and I'll report it to the banking authorities. If we get enough evidence of malfeasance, then the authorities won't be able to ignore us, and the organization should collapse under the weight of its own misdeeds coming home to roost.

So go to http://www.jesuswantstosavechurches.com/truevirtue and tell us what you know.

Don

Missing step on Week 6:

I dropped a note of thanks to the creator and asked the question about what we missed overall, specifically regarding Week 6. For the whole thing, we got everything that was intended to be solved with one exception. I received the following nudge to look at the initials of the ten disciples used to make the "DO THE MIRDEK SOLVING..." message.

When you look at the middle initials, you get PATRFGVGLR. These are the correct Mirdek translations of the cards in the initial video.

So, this all makes much more sense now and, as a result, is more satisfying.

The intended steps (I think):

Quote:
1. Translate the cards in the video using the MIR(DEK) clue to PATRFGVGLR.

2. Find the disciples in order from top to bottom that match these middle intials.

3. Use those 10 disciples to spell out the message DO THE MIRDEK SOLVING LIKE NORMAL; BLACK AND RED ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED FOR THE DECODING STEP HERE.

4. Go back and re-translate the cards to get PAGES TITLE

5. Use JOB list as the hint to look up the scriptures which gives the message LOAD VIDEO ON YOUTUBE SHOWING TASK RESOLUTION, BOLDLY DISPLAY LEADER SYMBOL

6. Upload a video.

So, in retrospect, there was a logical path through all this data that didn't require trying hundreds of different ideas on the names.

EDIT: Tabby's hint makes sense now:

Quote:
Step 1: He talks about God's hand, and how on your first view of it you take it at face value. How it colors your viewpoint matters, right?

Step 2 and 3: My initial reaction is that it's all good.

Step 4: Then just goes off, says it's all about reinterpreting God's hand to how you SHOULD see it. Then maybe it doesn't matter what it says, just as long as you see it how he sees it. (he lowercase, not He uppercase!) That's just wack.

Step 5: You see it right there in scripture, then it's your top priority to believe it how you want it, okay?

DOUBLE EDIT:

It's also clear that the reference to "Ten Amazing People And How They Changed The World" refers to the ten disciples used to spell out the message.

Unfortunately, once we quickly got to step 4, there was no way to see that we had bypassed three steps that used all the material we were now staring at.

If we had gotten the "Job List" aha earlier, we would have finished the week in quick fashion, but would have wondered for a long time about what all that extra information was for. Since we didn't get that aha until fairly late, it's no wonder we got so confused.

Ironically, this same thing happened to us at the Herald Hunt! We got to the finish line skipping several steps and then struggled for 45 minutes trying to figure out the next step not realizing that it was unsolvable based on the way we had gotten there.
