Re: white coats

There could be another reason why Melissa doesn't recognize that memory.

It might not be hers.

We know there's more than one entity in there with her. Perhaps that memory belongs to the Sleeping Princess?

I don't know... Wouldn't "evade" cover the hide part?

With regards to the white coats memory, chaotic_mind:

Do you think that it's an actual memory?

I think it is, but a more recent one. Everything I've read from that bit seems to indicate that the Queen began to wake while the Widow was working on her.... And I think that this passage is a recording of her early perseptions of that.

When you patch software, the program usually has to be closed before the files are actually swapped out. (Even when you patch an operating system, it always says after patching windows that you have to restart your computer for the changes to take. And it's when you restart that the real patching happens) Switching out files, any files, that a program references as it runs could cause more damage then whatever it was that prompted the need for a patch.

Now consider for a moment that Malissa is an AI made to be self-aware, and have feelings (or at least something that comes very close to them). If SPDR didn't shut down the processes from which she was rebuilding the Operator, it would be like the anastetic wearing off before the sergons finished what they were doing.

And that my friends would be what we call, "all 31 flavors of f'ed up".

If I were to spec here, I'm guessing that's why she shut the Princess up in the "air tight container". I think that the Princess was the largest "chunk" of Malissa left intact. (I'll probably get trouted for that last bit, but stick with me.) So the SPDR isolated her as best she could while she attempted to MacGuiver together a larger framework from the shattered remains of everything else. (My current theory is that, some how, the "glass coffin" that the Princess was locked in has something to do with the object they took abord their ship... I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that the "mirror" that held the queen's corpse was some sort of backup disk. Perhaps the glass coffin and the mirror are one in the same. I don't know, I'm new at this.)

I was referencing the part of Melissa's Phase 2 Monologue where the memory of the two crew talking about her favorite game keeps getting chopped down until all that's left is "SEEK!"

But you're right, it's not as if the "Hide" part is particularly out of place in the Flea's world-view.

My Spec is that Melissa is an advanced-enough AI that she can't be "shut down," any more than a human can be shut down. . . thus meaning that she is as conscious of the Spider's work as her still-damaged mind is capable of being. So the Spider is like a Civil-War-era sawbones hacking away at a victim/patient who is at best drunk, and more likely just delirious from pain.

No wonder she hates the spider so much.
