Also a Stan Lee reference with the sign off on page 63 by the Mayor. Stan Lee, of comic-book fame, is famous for signing off "Excelsior!"...

I think DOR may stand for Dormant era, mentioned on page 62

The Worker's Tale

My tale is of a duc, large of stomak and purs;
That he sholde oonly dyne oon pye was his curce.
Bitwixen fyshe pye and bee pye his mouthe groue terede,
Thus hath I, the worker, as his cok been hyred.
For the bold newe pye, briddes were my chois:
Hard to catche; their goode meate, moiste.
My werke constaunt, to cok my oonly wische,
After a monthe I delyueryd the dish.
The duces face groue brighte as the skie
As he turneth to enjoien the sighte of the pye.
Shoutyng a crye, wilde with glotonye,
He putte the hool pye insyde his bely.
From this foule prisoun, the briddes twitter and tweet;
Now in his stommak, they were what chuck dide eate.

...who wants to put this to a tune? Wink Laughing

Doesn't that remind you of A Clockwork Orange (nadsat) or the language from 1984? For example, they use the word "polyskilled" on page 17 to mean "skilled at more then one thing". It's very similar to "doublespeak".

Me, I'm having awful high school Chaucer flashbacks

"Whanne that April with his shoures sote..."

It's interesting, all through the book Voltaire is mentioned and addressed as though it's a person, but on the inner cover we are told Voltaire was "activated" on DOR 300. How do you activate a person? Maybe Voltaire is something else entierly...

Also, there is clearly no grasp of world history in game as the manual refers to the time when men and dinosaurs peacefully co-existed before the Bronze Age set us apart...

Debussy got the Prix de Rome in 1884

1884+123 = 2007
1989+18 = 2007

This means DOR 0 is 2007

The years on the IMPORTANT DATES portion are going backwards from our perspective. Fall of Berlin Wall was in 1989 but it's listed as 18. Birth of the Cool, if Miles Davis, was in the 50's but is listed as 57. Seems the years are marching upwards to the Blackstar Merger then switch over to TRO...

It's clear that...

The collective memory of everyone was wiped... and they're collective culture is from what books were left after the Troubles.

Plus Voltaire apparently had a quick means of conveyance, according to the chateau story.
