MikeR, I would STRONGLY urge you not to post in this thread if you are a PM, especially if you're acting in character. It's against this forum's TOS and will quickly get you banned.
Thanks.

Dang this all got super exciting. Most of this stuff looks over my head to solve, but I look forward to seeing where it goes.

Are there any Cowboy Bebop fans in here?

I swear the dog in the Eighties glasses is Ein from CB, I remember an episode where he was wearing the same style glasses but I can't find it on Google to save my life.

Not that it really matters, I just know it's an image of Ein. Sorry for the randomness, it's just driving me bonkers...

See here:

Don't you think that's the 'Cool Dog' we've seen referenced in the video?

SOLUTIONS?

Enough about problems! Let's hear some plausible solutions to everyday difficulties!

NO MONEY

* Learn a new skill. You can pick up a few extra Dark Dollars outside of Blackstar hours with abilities like BAKING, ARCHERY, and DARK ARCHERY.
* Move to a cheaper, more vulnerable housing complex.
* Sell unneeded weapons and armor.

BAD ROOMMATE

* Create a shared schedule for chores like washing the dishes and cleaning the bathroom.
* Duel your roommate for Dark Dollars or items in the Fight Gallery.
* Arrange for regular "quiet time" hours on weekday evenings.

CONSTANT STATE OF DREAD

* Think about the Blackstar machinery you work with during the day. Is there any item, however small or insignificant, that could be slightly out of place? Is there any chance you've made a careless oversight that will lead inextricably to catastrophe?

(page 41)

HOLDING ON

Once, while strolling through the outer provinces, Voltaire happened upon a struggling machinist.

"Sir," implored the machinist, "how am I to concentrate on my labours when my chateau is under constant assault by the banditry?"

Voltaire left promptly without responding.''

If only we could all be entities of Voltaire's power-class, unburdened and capable of rapid conveyance. Most of us are more like the chateau--under assault, largely stationary, and in danger of lasting structural damage.

Feeling Lovecraftian
Nyarlathotep

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyarlathotep

Nyarlathotep's first appearance is in the eponymous short story by Lovecraft (1920), in which he is described as a "tall, swarthy man" who resembles an Egyptian Pharaoh. In this story he wanders the earth, seemingly gathering legions of followers through his demonstrations of strange and seemingly magical instruments, the narrator of the story among them. These followers lose awareness of the world around them, and through the narrator's increasingly unreliable accounts the reader gets a sense of the world's utter collapse. The story ends with the narrator as part of an army of servants for Nyarlathotep.

It's the same glasses, but a different dog. It's really driving me nuts because I can see the scene clearly in my head. Oh well, it's irrelevant either way...

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE

Even hardy settlers from the Dormant era sometimes had to change their plans; maybe their homestead simply ran out of nutritious grubs, or their wagons were unable to ford a treacherous river. Try as we might, the Milwaukee Tourism Commission can't offer everything to everyone. That's why, if you've ever "gotta go," we'll gladly shake your hand, give you a slap on the back, and wish you a full-throated "Happy trails, pard'ner!" provided that you take the following steps:

* Fill out (in quintuplicate) a Standard BG-90 "Happy Trails, Pard'ner!" Voluntary Citizenry/Studentry Evacuation Couplet.
* Jettison all affiliated personnel in the event of a BG-90 Couplet failure.
* Return rented/leased rebreather apparati, including but not limited to the Mark II Blackstar Personal Rebreather, the MX "Big Kid" Juvenile Rebreather, and the "Lil' Missy" Blackstar Rebreather for Her (for Petites and Plus-sizes, please contact Blackstar directly).

All citizens, visitors, tradeswomen, and otherwise uncategorized humanry who fail to complete the compulsory emigration steps will lose, immediately and in perpetuity, and only to be restored by Mayoral pardon, the ability to apply for the 15% Tequila Tuesday discount at participating FeBrizzio's resturants.

(page 63)

A PARTING THOUGHT

This may seem like the end of the story, settler, but your trail has only just begun.

There's a lot of information in these dusty pages. LIke Voltaire sez, "Knowledge is power--so watch your back!" If there is anything in this tome you find confusing or unclear, we urge you to reread it several times, perhaps from a different perspective ... or maybe after a good night's rest?

However you interpret its contents, we hope our booklet will serve as your stalwart companion--and, if necessary, solid fuel--as you make your way to Milwaukee.

Excelsior!

Yet another first-timer here.

On the "Active Cities" page, the symbols near Wichita are the same symbols used to represent Go.D.S.E.E.D fragments in the original video (the part where glasses guy is holding the monitor).

I have to agree that a lot of elements seem very video game related. "Dueling your roommate for Dark Dollars," learning new skills/abilities like "baking" and "dark archery," and the different "Swords of Slaying."

On page 8 it mentions man stealing technology. The end of the paragraph above that also mentions "the Dinosaur Viceroy". So apparently man really did co-exist with intelligent dinosaurs in the TIMM universe.

Also: Hurrah for Cool Dog!

I'm still trying to work out what's going on in the pg. 26/Problems table...

Depth is in "mev" - or Meters Water Equivalent - which seems to be a unit used to describe level of radiation shielding underground. It converts to meters. 6800 mev = 6000 meters says Wikipedia.

Eľ *seems* to be a radiation level or something. GeV is a unit of energy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeV

My physics knowledge is limited... Hmm...

I imagine at this point that the QUATI is somewhat more important than any actual data, however.

Yeah, i love Cowboy Bebop. I'm a fan of all anime. Bonus points if you can guess who my avatar is. Wink I'm not sure if it looks like Ein, but with all the anime references in this ARG it wouldnt surprise me.

Yeah - the link to mibbit was just for people who didn't have an irc client already - I didn't make that clear enough. Smile
