Yes, you're right, because stars move relative to each other over time.

Sure, but for us mere mortals that only live a century or so, that's moot. Of course Carl would think in terms of 'millions and millions' of years, so...

R.A. and Declination of the 88 modern constellations here, FWIW. [not much].

Maybe we should try a program with Scalar Gain anyway, just to be safe? It could have been intended as two anagrams instead of just one?

This is a shot in the dark, but Carl sagan as the anagram and the coordinates make sense. Anyone watch the move 'Contact' with Jodie Foster. I think the numbers in sources.txt link up with movie sites. Not entirely mind you but I do remember them in most of those places.

This looks intriguing. Room for one more?

Maybe they are currently ecliptic co-ordinates and we need to convert them to equatorial co-ordinates?

I did the working out for the first 2 values and got new co-ords of 0.0011509, 1.789 which is in the golf of New Guinea in Africa. So don't think that's right though my working out could be wrong.

jaybill has it and I'm getting impatient for him to post, so:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Subtract 1 from every coordinate (add -1 to the negative coords). The new coordinates map to nine observatories/radio-telescopes. Further research (also done by jaybill) reveals them to have all been part of the SETI project.

He was right about the extra "I" representing 1.

I figured NONE of that out, just for the record. And we don't know where to go from here either. I e-mailed stareightsix to let them know we
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
found their telescopes
but haven't heard anything yet.

Nice find Jaybill! I'd actually gone the other way and ~added~ 1 to all of the coordinates, when that turned up nothing I gave up that tactic and tried another. *smacks self*

Wanna mention that the destegged Datamatrix code on the sources page is imo quite siniliar to the first pictures taken of the newly discovered extrasolar planet HR8799 as seen in The New York Times. Major props to jaybill for the Seti math/match. Cool

Yeah, I considered the same thing and dismissed it because I didn't think it would have made much of a difference. I was looking for a larger pattern or something.

As for binary, I am referring to that thagomizer pic and you see the pies which translate to 413321

As far as I can tell, the glyphs only translate to 41332 (not sure where you're getting that final 1).

That 1 turned out to be pretty handy. Laughing

Nice work guys.
This might be first contact

For reference, here are where the coordinates point to:-

52.9153 6.603 Westerbork radio telescope in Hooghalen, The Netherlands

34.0787 -107.6182 Very Large Array, New Mexico

47.371 2.1976 Nancay telescope, France

53.2365 -2.3087 Jodrell Bank, UK

42.6233 -71.4881 Haystack Observatory, Westford, MA, USA

35.9445 138.4725 Nobeyama Observatory, Japan

50.5248 6.8835 Effelsberg radioteleskop, Germany

40.2513 -83.0597 "Big Ear" Radio observatory, Delaware, Ohio ? (I'm not certain on this one)

18.3442 -66.7528 Arecibo observatory, Puerto Rico
