more 2010...

I like that as a relation to our own time, but the problem is that they don't use our dating system...

ACT 12 is equal to our 2010. What's that in DOR?

I think the table on p.27 is a link between a phrase and a large (25-digit) number. If you know the phrase (which is an anagram of letters HKAMFGLSEEERRRRWWYYNNTTIIUUOOO), it's easy to construct a number according to the table. Someone suggested the word Milwaukee could be formed, but I can't find any reasonable anagrams containing it and the other letters. It also cannot be formed by adjacent letters in the table. I suspect we can use diagonals as well, otherwise the phrase could be spotted easily. Or maybe letters don't have to be adjacent.

I / 1, 0 / O issues

I think the debate over whether those are the letter "I" or the number "1" are simply an issue of the font the book is printed in. It's a variation of garamond (see www.linotype.com/3474/garamondfontfeature.html for examples.).

And for the sake of completeness, here's the numbers corresponding to each letter, with each letter getting its own line (missing letters omitted)

Quote:

A: 6
E: 2 3 2
F: 0
G: -
H: 2
I: 9 -
K: 2
L: 9
M: 5
N: 4 -
O: 1 0 -
R: 6 8 4 5
S: 5
T: 0 -
U: 0 2
W: 6 0
Y: 1 0

Another possible meaning:

A closed directed (simple) path, with no repeated vertices other than the starting and ending vertices. (This usage is common in graph theory.) This may also be called a simple (directed) cycle.

Either way, it looks like we may be dealing with a graph.

EDIT: I seem to recall this being referred to as a 'Long Walk' in one of my math classes. Let me see if I can dig up my notes.
EDIT 2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_graph_theory#Walks

These wikipedia articles remind me of the 'Active Cities' map on p1. What about applying that to the grid somehow?

Ok, yesterday I mentioned that Mike R left out U as capital letters in his post, suggesting that maybe the U was the incorrect info. Bigwig and I just talked with a mathematician at our work, and he kinda proved that the U is the odd man out in the 3rd row of the first chart. All of the letters and 7 (possibly G, giving us GTA_Q) correspond to prime #'s except for U. If we are going by the "odd man out in each row" theory, U (21) is the odd man out.

Bigwig is going to post a picture of everything that our mathhead wrote on his whiteboard.

Wow! Pulling out the big guns! I doubt the PM counted on us having a mathematician on retainer. Cool

Checking in on the Something Awful forum I came across this post by user Silkenray which seems very interesting . . .

Quote:
Ok, sent an email earlier today.

Quote:

Let me postulate a hypothetical situation.

In this EXTREMELY HYPOTHETICAL situation a representative of an unnamed British Technology firm managed to, through corporate espionage, obtain the original design specs of the G.o.D.S.E.E.D. That unnamed, purely hypothetical technology company then went on to HYPOTHETICALLY work on recreating the G.o.D.S.E.E.D. project, with a few refinements designed to limit its contagious properties. Let us also postulate that in this entirely, 100% hypothetical situation that there nonetheless was a containment breech and the entire theoretical 12 million population of a city which may or may not be London is at risk.

Response:
Quote:

Susan,

Assuming, just for a moment, that there exists out there a bizarre alternate universe where London and her Blackstar branch weren't wiped clean off the face of the earth during Day Fifty-Two (I think?) of the The Three Hundred Troubles; and that a non-Blackstar company somehow tried to reverse engineer the European Go.D.S.E.E.D. through stolen documents; and somehow succeeded; and double-somehow had the foresight to have realized the single, simple mistake that Blackstar had made in the creation process; assuming ALL of that, then clearly this theoretical London-based conglomerate would have succeeded in solving what used to be man's greatest problem before, you know, the whole Armageddon thing that happened as a result of trying to solve it in the first place.

Thanks for your letter.

-The MTC

So the 300 Troubles may be 300 days? Europe (or at least London) is gone? What was Go.D.S.E.E.D. an attempt to solve?

Chuck's Most Recent Status on Twitter:

I am about to go down to the Piers for a night of gambling, gamboling, and old-fashioned steak. Early today I had a tacolaza salad.

EDIT:
gambol
Verb
[-bolling, -bolled] or US [-boling, -boled]
to jump about playfully; frolic

I somehow cannot picture that man gamboling.

You will have to forgive me if I am totally off base with this but could the "long walk" graph have something to do with the map of active cities? I am just spit balling but looking at the wikipedia page for graph theory reminded me of the map and the routes.

Also has anyone started to wonder if Chuck is not only the Duke but also The Creep?

So Chuck can't be destroyed or consumed by Go.D.S.E.E.D fragments? That'd be pretty amusing.

Also, I received an e-mail reply from someone on that mailing list. It's over on the other thread.

I was working under the assumption that The Creep couldn't be destroyed either and figured that is why Jagoda doesn't seem to have a care in the world but after reading everything over again I can't help but wonder if the quote is the beginning of a joke and we are supposed to figure out it's end.

That might not be too far fetched. Look at the drawing during the credits that has Jagoda in it.

Some shadowy thing (a fragment?) comes in to view, Jagoda vanquishes it, Jagoda continues eating.
