I created a new thread called One False Note - BEWARE OF SPOILERS for people to post conjectures and new findings from the new book. Maybe in two weeks, when many of us here have read the book, we can safely move any spoilerish discussion back to this thread.

Theories, Hints and some trouts

Sorry for the long post. Otherwise, it would have been 7 straight replies fro me. Would that have been a septuple post?

Alice, read the book. There is something neat at the end that might fit your theory. Wink
You're killing me Rox! I can't read the book right now. I have to do my schoolwork!! Christmas break is only a few weeks away and it will have to wait. Crying or Very sad

i do not think that the major thing will be how to make gold i mean i dont think being able to make gold will make you the most powerful human on earth and i would be dissappointed if that was it it probably is something else

Crying or Very sad Did you not read what I posted about my current theory? Making gold is out... something related to energy is in. Very Happy

I'd wager that most guesses made with the data we have now will be way off in left field once more of the clues are uncovered. It'd be kind of a let down if we could guess the finale with only 4 or 5 clues of 39 uncovered!

True, but it is still fun to try and put it together with the few clues we have. It is also funny how a theory can shift wildly with the addition of one clue.

what is book 2 clue Question

Forgive my TROUT, since this has been mentioned in previous posts: The book 2 clue is tungsten

My original thought when the elements were being uncovered is that the clue answers would spell something out, and that we'd be using the chemical symbols to do some of that...

i thinked that 2,just the final word would be a place Rolling Eyes
the letters i have yet is:
CU(copper)
U(uranium)
P(phosphorus)
I just don't know the iron solute thing

In previous posts, we have discussed the idea of the letters for the chemical elements spelling a word, clue, etc. You should try out the unforum's search function to see what has previously been discussed to see if you have additional comments before posting. It also may answer your questions. For instance, there is no chemical symbol for iron solute. There is one for iron (Fe), but it is not really the same thing. Trout

Now, any hot tips on improving your score in Decoder?
I start by putting all the same color in all 4 slots.
Skeet shoot and Dog Fight are what I think are hard. The Decoder and the Chemical game are the easy ones.

Hmmm. jvolgmann is pretty stiff competition. Not sure I want to divulge my secrets. Wink
I had never heard of Mastermind (basically what decoder is based upon) until Wind Lane posted his tips. Up to that point I was having top ten scores with a strategy very similar to TheRealPip. The only improvement I saw was when I managed to click faster and when I got a lucky break (just happened to be GGGG). Then I researched Mastermind strategy and found the best opening move is GGBB (or any two each of two colors). I even tried to develop a spreadsheet to determine the best guess given the results of previous attempts. There are 625 (5x5x5x5) various combinations! It was a good exercise to prep my brain, but it ultimately was too time consuming to look up in my spreadsheet for the best answer. Lots and lots of practice. I am now up to 4,575,608 in cumulative points and I have mostly played decoder, if that gives you any indication of the hours I have spent on this silly game. Like TheRealPip, I can't seem to get the high scores on the flying games, and the skeet shoot is the worst for me!

THE CRAZY HIGHSCORE IS BACK AND LIKE acp IT ONLY HAS 3 LETTER bnc AND ATON OF NUMBER we need someone to message about it
OMG!!! Shocked I have slipped to #3. Something must be done. I will never be able to beat that. I sent an email this morning. It wouldn't hurt if they got more emails. tyty, you have the "in" with the 39clues help team -- you did get them to give you a card#60 code. See if you can't use your connections. Very Happy I sent my email straight to gavin (you posted his addy awhile back -- I used the search function to find it). The help team is so deaf to my complaints at this point that my email will probably go straight to the trash. Of course, I am willing to bet that the person who used to be #1 has already complained!
I really must get to work now. This 39 Clues stuff is addictive...

I got a response from Gavin:

We just noticed this this morning as well. Don't worry, it will be reset. We're working on better tracking to try to prevent this bug/hack in the future.

tyty, I read ALL the posts. If I didn't respond to yours, it was because I didn't have anything more to offer at the time. I do enjoy your insight into the hunt, though. Very Happy

Some info I retain better than others. Addy for a real person at 39 Clues would be something to retain. Wink I was surprised at how quickly Gavin responded. Much better than getting the robo-response and waiting for it to get routed to the right person.

If you go to cliqueme.net you get to the 39 Clues homepage just like ilikeuselessfacts.net

Also, cards 409 and 404 are the same thing, just like 416 and 400. If u go to photo credits and go down to the credits for the actual cards, 404 has the same credits as 409, and I checked using the url trick, and there both lucian secrets.

Dear Customer,

Thanks for contacting the 39 Clues Help Team.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. We are forwarding your request to the technical team. However our technical team is aware of this problem and they are trying to resolve it as early as possible.

We have noticed this score and are investigating how it was received. It is outside the expected range so it is likely the result of a bug, but we will be investigating to determine what has happened.

Please contact us again if you need further assistance.[/quote]

I also mentioned bnc1988 or whatever the username is.

Believe it or not, I sent that same thought to Alice on the 3rd. My Cd came in and I saw the link so I had to go fetch hte cards. My "theory" is that there will be one card from each book (maybe -1 becuse of hte odd shape it will make) These will all form one giant picture.

I was having those same thoughts, but I have a theory on what it'll be... (Yeah, I know. They should have named it "The 39,000,000,000 Theories" instead of "The 39 Clues") ...but after looking closely at the part of the picture on card #19 I thought that it looked like part of a lab that had blown up. Also, with the figure in all black hiding in the background of the picture (anything nestled away in the top left hand corner of a picture isn't usually going to be a focal point) I thought "so far this thing is starting to look like the mural described in The Maze of Bones."

Anybody else get that kind of a vibe from this little bit we've got so far?
