Mars is really about the outcast thing, eh? makes me wonder if this is a clue that she hasn't been "body-snatched" yet or whatever you want to call it. i wonder how we can use this to advantage?

and she still didn't friend me yet! Censored

Mars obviously wants some company and is looking for not just friends, but also dating. Perhaps someone should invite her for a night out? Maybe some good, old-fashioned steak at the Piers? Wink

Her Facebook says she's interested in both men and women, I'm going to start hitting her up for some romance "when/if I move there". See what happens.

I think the next person to chat with Mars on IM needs to ask about rebels... I can't help but get the feeling that once we start down that avenue, Leroux will come looking for her...

I think they're looking for a # of friends tipping point before Mars will become comfortable enough to spill any beans. Better get viral-ing.

Just a heads up - important new tweet from Chuck!

"Saw Anna Tate over a lunch meeting at Brizzi's today about JMC outreach to the public schools. Had potato soup, which was decent."

Forgot that Anna Tate is already known! E-mailing about JMC now!

I tried to e-mailed anna.tateSPLATthisismymilwaukee.com, annaSPLATthisismymilwaukee.com and tateSPLATthisismymilwaukee.com, but with no luck. Everything bounced.

BUT - we do now have a new name and new topic.

Anna Tate is Anna Tate Mellon, I think it was discussed earlier in the thread, and she's the mayor of Milwaukee? Something like that.

She's the mayor. So maybe she uses yahoo like Sarah Palin. Laughing

Not sure if it matters, but the NEED FRIENDS images on Mars/Leroux facebook are the same font and gradient-style background as the MTC video. Full-size image is about the same size as the video, too.

So on Mars' facebook, it says her birthday is 10/19/1986, and that she is 25. I guess they are 3 years ahead of us?

That doesn't make sense, they were saying that the 2009 teen [somethingorother] was being postponed on an answering message earlier... Is their time just wonky, or is that perhaps a contradiction in the story?

Email with Michael Lewis

A lovely email exchange with Michael Lewis, my query below his response.

Hi xxx,

Sorry, the Wichita slideshow isn't available outside of the Welcome Centre. I understand that you're anxious to "hit the road" as they say, but there's nothing in that slideshow that's of any great importance until you've gotten into town. (Really, it's a little embarrassingly dated, to be honest. It was commissioned back when we first made touch, and things have changed more than a little since then, obviously.)

As far as what "route" you choose to take to Milwaukee, I think you're over-thinking things. It's easy to do that -- trust me, we at the MTC are as guilty of it as anyone! There's nothing you need outside of what you already have, and once you've made a route to get here (the traditional way of doing things is always best), it's my recommendation to come directly. (Stopping is not recommended, as there are a lot of dangers in the deserts. I don't know why I'm even bothering to tell you that, of course, as you're from Wichita, so certainly you're aware of what I'm referencing.)

Hope that clears things up. Thanks for your interest, and "we'll be seeing you when we're seeing you, pard'ner!"

Lastly, please pass on the video to your friends and family -- we're trying to make this the most successful Milwaukee new resident quarter ever!

Sincerely,
Michael Lewis
MTC

I was going to go to Decatur, then to Milwaukee but I have a bit of time and that seems so short and it'd be nice to see some of the countryside. I was thinking I should go Wichita, Decatur, Duluth, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids and then back to Milwaukee because I like boats and want to ride it twice, but then I saw the note about not coming in from the North Gate and thought it would be better to go Wichita, Decatur, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, Duluth, Decatur (why not see Big Brass City twice?) and then back to Milwaukee. What do you think?

I wonder if that means we're over thinking things in the pamphlet thread, with the routes and whatnot.

Yeah. That, or it has nothing to do with the cities at all... I'd say a new direction on this is needed... no pun intended, naturally. I think we latched on to the captions on the graphs, and took them too literally...maybe?

Why does this keep popping up:

"we'll be seeing you when we're seeing you, pard'ner!"
?

It's in quotes too - so its not just a thing they say. It's something they're referencing...like it is something important that someone says - or from a book. It comes up a few times in the book, too.

Edit: Also, I'm using http://dingitsup.com/ to notify me when the thisismygrandrapids.com site goes online. Feel free to do the same.

Secondly: Why won't Twitter let me add http://twitter.com/WhatChuckEats/ ?? It says the resource doesn't exist. How did you all add him?

I think that one must be something unrelated. http://twitter.com/chuckdideeate is the twitter everyone has been using.
