Not to mention their names are alliterative and one letter apart.

Lipps already passes the biggest requirement to being Superman's girlfriend.

I thought about that actually! Forgot to mention it in my post. Heck, who knows, they might be superheroes themselves... Alliteration is the key, after all. Clark Kent, Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, so on and so forth, yo. I think we should spend some time actually looking into the people themselves instead of just waiting around for responses.

There is either something we are completely missing with Chuck and food or they're just doing this to drive us crazy.

Well, I don't know if the meanings of the names themselves are relevant to anything, but a quick search seems to show that

Mars=Roman god of war
Madison=Son of the mighty warrior; son of Maud, Matthew's son

Lipps=Surname thought to derive from a resident of Lippe in Westphalia, now part of Germany
Leroux=French for "the red-haired one"

Cool thing is the last line. The reference to flax and the apple has to do with Discordianism. My avatar is a Golden Apple that I used by Carlos Ruiz Brussain on DeviantArt. It is a holy symbol in the Discordian movement, which I am part of. Flax also plays a large role in the Discordian mythos, and in The Illuminatus! Triolgy (which features Discordianism).

I'm so excited! Very Happy

Fnord, my friend. ^_^

I've also got pending friend requests with both Mars and Lipps. I'll do what I can to get friendly and start up some conversation about rebels.

"mars" also means the month of march in french, for what it's worth.

larose burton also has an odd first name.

la rose and le roux both mean red things in french -- redhead and rose (flower)

is there something here we're missing in french?

That one might just be coincidence but I'm not so sure considering there's some chinese at the end of one of the answering machine messages. Could be there's something to looking for linguistic meanings?

ESimpson - I believe I also read at some point that somewhere in a recording someone got to by calling a phone number they heard a female voice say something in French that translated to "good luck".

That would have had to have been "bonne chance" if it were French. I can't find that in anyone's call transcripts...

Yes! That was it, synspark. "Bonne Chance". I read it in a call transcript in the original TIMM thread. I'm sure of it. It was in the recording along with something about flooding.

I was very sure that the woman was talking French at the end of the outgoing voicemail message, too, and I heard "bonne chance" also. I was rather surprised when people were saying it was Chinese. Did they change the message?

EDIT :: I just called it again and checked. She DEFINITELY says "bonne chance" at the end, but the first bit sounds like Chinese. She says a phrase in Chinese (?) and then says "bonne chance!" at the end.

In Chinese, when you say a full name, you say it in the form of:

LAST NAME, FIRST NAME

instead of normally First Name Last Name.

So "John Doe" would be called "Doe John" in Chinese.

EDIT: Does anyone have a recording of the Chinese before Bonne Chance? I also remember hearing bonne chance, but not the Chinese. I could take a stab at it, if I could rewind it enough times to listen to it.

I keep just sending random emails trying to get any information I can. In one of the conversations she mentioned being a trades woman, so I took that approach this time. Here's the conversation with Mars:

Quote:
Mars,
I haven't had any interaction with Go.D.S.E.E.D fragments as of yet. What about you? I mean, is that an acronym for something scarier or what?

Also, the list of important materials on the pre-approved version of A Reasonable Haven lists some important materials, such as iron and wood. I happen to a large stock pile of wood in a secret location (I used to be a lumberjack before the lands were turned to desert). Would BlackStar be interested in buying or trading for this wood (I would accept dark dollars as payment)?

Thanks,
Scott

Quote:

hi scott,

sorry, i dont work for blackstar. woods preeeety plentiful even with the desertification (sp?) and all, so while i'm sure you'd be able to trade it, its probably not gonna make you rich unless you've got a ton.

also you must be carrying a rabbits foot not to have had a single sighting of a fragment yet. while they're pretty rare so far here in the city proper, (compared to the desert especially geeze!) never having run into one is like never having been caught in the rain. not sure what godseed stands for, actually. someone at blackstar probably does, but they're so burecratic (sp again, sorry) that i'd be surprised if you could get it out of any of them.

I'm pretty sure she was just putting emphasis on the word. Say it out loud, I know a couple people who, when emphasizing "pretty" especially in the form of 'very', elongate the 'e'. If that made any sense. I don't think it means anything.

Actually, a friend of mine did call and get the message with the Chinese at the end. She said it sounded like "Shu dwi (or dwa?) ya mei?" but that at the end of that it said "Wo cang" which means to harbor or to shelter, and someone on the other thread said that would make sense with the Milwaukee: A Reasonable Haven handbook. It seems to make more sense that they would be speaking entirely in Chinese anyway, rather than in Chinese and then French, but if you can figure out what the first part is maybe we'll have a better idea?

After messaging Mars and telling her I'm moving there, asking for tips, and I'm interested in "helping solve MKE's problems", this is what I got:

Mars Madison

hi megan,

glad to hear that you want to solve problems. i don't really do much for the "greater good" like people at blackstar or the mtc, i'm just kind of a loner. (i do freelance repair/tinkering work, so i guess i'm helping SOMEone..) all i can tell you about the move is over-prepare, even if you're traveling by rail or boat or whatever. better safe than sorry.

interesting that SOME is emphasized....perhaps she sympathizes with the rebels?
